Hello Tankers,

 

Today we launched patch 0.9.18 and we want to hear your feedback! There are separate topics for major 0.9.18 changes, please leave all feedback for Matchmaker changes in this thread. 

  • How is matchmaking compared to before the patch?
  • How well do you feel the matches are balanced in general?
  • Have you seen any technical issues with the new matchmaker?
  • How have queue times been impacted?

matchmaking is pretty great playing my type 62 almost gets me top player in the match every time.

Matchmaker is truly broken now - before the patch it was bad, but already pre-9.18 MM seems like the good ol' days by comparison. It was a huge mistake to put the MM changes, tier 10 LTs, and massive changes to SPGs into the same patch. 9.18 should be rolled back and the various pieces reconsidered and retested one at a time over a long period of time. As it is it's hard to tell exactly whats wrong with so many different elements contributing to the problem.

I already asked it and didn't get any response, so here I go again:

With this new MM, it's impossible to get this medals:
 



What's gonna do WG about them? Will fix it? Change the requeriments? Or just move it to "No longer availible" like they did with Sniper and Wittmann's Boelter's Medals?

I do not see many top tier matches, in fact 3 out of 20, and 1 of those was a 1 tier match. Not entirely sure that is as intended. I also see a lot of tank imbalance, that I thought would be fixed. Teams with no heavies against teams with 3 or 4 heavies. Mediums are pretty useless in the current meta. At least, it seems that way. Too many scouts as well, 5 on average per map. along with 3 arty, and that leaves only a few slots for the other tanks, and if one team gets all the heavies, it gets really ugly.

I am enjoying the new matchmaker changes. I think that it gives the low tiers in a match a bunch better chance as they have more of their same tier counterparts to fight. Winning or losing however, does depend more on the skill of your top tier tanks. I also like the single tier battles. So far I've only seen them in tier 10.

Matchmaker changes introduce some great battles that have balanced teams and tight tier spreads which evens the battlefield very nicely. Very pleased with the changes.

Thanks for pointing those out, I'm not sure if these were missed or what but I'll pass this along and try to get a response from the designer.

MM is still broken you cant put 1 top tier against 3 top tier heavys it dont work come on wargaming you really fixed it more like you broke it even worse pull your heads out of the garbage can and fix it right

Think that new MM is in the right direction but instead of mostly bottom tier i think it should be mostly mid tier.

Not sure what you mean? there should be 3 tier 6s vs 3 tier 6s, but the new mm won't match the tank class.  And it was never proposed.  So you can have 3 tier 6 light tanks vs 3 tier 6 heavy tanks.... and what would be wrong with that?

Wargaming made way too many changes to the game with this patch making it difficult to assess each of the changes individually. The light tank stats say they are not competitive - but matchmaking making them as top tier against tanks two tiers lower skews the perspective. Compared against their own tier or higher tiers they are mismatched - but MM makes this likely to happen less often (at least at the moment). The 3/5/7 split will significantly alter game play and will (and is) making the outcome of certain battles predetermined. If you have a large player base where you will have a more balanced distribution of tanks (i.e. enough to have a two tier split or only one tier) then this may work. On NA it is fundamentally a bad idea because low tiers will be even more bullied by high tiers if the top tier has any skill at all - and if they don't then their team is more likely to get rolled. As this trend emerges - and I expect it will do so with increasing regularity - the complaints about MM will increase. The split only works if you are the top tier. Fundamentally this is a bad idea. I understand why it was done and theoretically it may make some sense but practically it is going to be a disaster.

This doesn't seem quite right to me. Top tier arty does not equal top tier heavy

MM Need to be rework for arty because now one team can have a t92 hmc vs a loraine and its not faire arty wise. I got another game that it was one arty vs none.

The new mm seems to make balanced teams but out of 22 games I was bottom tier 21 times .....

Match Maker

 

I don't really have anything to say about the new MM other than it's a small improvement, but it does NOT go to solving the biggest issues with the MM.

All you needed to do was have a TANK & SKILL Based MM system by:

 

1. Equal Tank Classes on both teams, so no longer imbalanced all heavy and all TD or Medium teams.

 

2. Equal Skilled Players on both sides, (done by Player Rating, NOT Winrate) so both sides have the SAME # of good and bad players, instead of imbalanced teams where one is half blues, and the other team is all lesser players for example.

 

3. Make good players on the loosing team ALSO get's good credit and XP.  This makes things more fair to ALL, as well will reduce steamrolls etc. which does many things among which is causes slower and/or worse armored tanks not be able to contribute as much because they have to play "safer" (or can't get to the battle) so often no matter if on winning team or not, they often have bad games because they needed more time to contribute.  LIke, this is a constant problem in my T49 with it's 8 sec actual aim-time, longest in game, makes it so you have to play it highly conservative and careful (though I do think that bloom needs to be cut in half due to so many missed shots who 5-10 feet and auto-aimed etc. on an enemy, so doing that would help fix that problem).

 

This is an EASY change to the MM system, which would make a more enjoyable game.  And you can adjust Credits and XP accordingly since good players might win slightly less than they currently do.

It is noticeably different. My primary issue with the previous MM wasn't tank balance but being bottom tier too often which placed an increased dependency on top tier contribution. 

How well do you feel the matches are balanced in general?

It might be too soon to tell with the majority of matches consisting heavily of light tanks.

Have you seen any technical issues with the new matchmaker? 

A few short teams and I haven't played after midnight which is my normal play time.

How have queue times been impacted? 

So far, they have only been slightly longer. I still have to play off peak hours to get a better idea of how it will affect me regularly.

what did you do to a good game. Now it is lame. this is over control of a pixel game.
