If this post was created in the wrong sub-forum, I'm sorry~

The reason for writing this post is to get a general idea of what everyone's stance towards premium tanks in tournaments is. As of writing this post, this week's Weekly 5v5 is scheduled to be Tier 8 and as many of you might have guessed, that tier is prime target for premium tanks. The problem being, many premium tanks have been sold in the past and are no longer on sale due to WarGaming's hype train ending (lets be honest, they restrict sale of tanks to fabricate rarity and further increase demand for when they eventually go back on sale). Many of these tanks being somewhat better than their standard counterparts, with one of the prime culprits being the Defender (Obj 252u).

Since community tournaments and possibly WarGaming's own league having barely any restrictions on Tanks besides their tiers, why should players that either had the money to purchase an objectively stronger tank than their standard counterparts or simply wasn't around during the sale of said tanks be handicapped?

Before I write any more and start turning this thread into more and more of a whine about premium tank imbalance more than it currently is, I'd like anyone who is reading this to take some time and use the included poll above for a measure of public interest, and if you have any conflicting thought (maybe you might just want to call me a poop-brick), please don't hesitate and let me know!

I am of a biased opinion due to having no problem dispatching defender/252 with my IS3.

It is possible to overcome the defender debacle.

While it is true that superior tactics and general know how can overcome any tank you come across, it should be also noted that with two equal players the 252u will have the advantage in my opinion as the IS-3 firing nothing but premium rounds (and lets be honest, most people fire nothing but premium in tournaments) will have a much harder time against a 252u due to the raw armor thickness. While the 252u can just punch through most of the upper/lower plate with ease.

I actually hate playing Soviet HT's, but as I see it...

252U advantages - Upper plate, alpha

IS-3 advantages - Turret, Gun handling - especially on turret rotation

In addition, there are a few differences in exactly how and where the side armor is troll.

Probably the 252 is a bit easier to play half decently, but for good players there are reasons they may prefer the IS-3.

Is-3 is just better overall.

It's a worry about nothing really.  Either or, neither nor.

I have no problem with Premiums being used in tournaments. Regular tanks should be equal or better than the Premiums. So if a Premium is dominating that is a balance issue with the regular tank IMO, not an issue of Premiums being allowed.

Let's keep in mind that the Defender is not the only tank that's objectively better than most other same tier tanks.

There's also...

Tier II: T1E6

Tier IV: T-28E F-30

Tier V: KV-220-2

Tier VI: Type 64

Tier VII: AMX 13 57

Tier VIII: Blackdog, AMX M4 49
