Why did WG nerf all the autoloader light tanks?

This is true for most autoloaders when talking about even tiered or higher tiered vehicles.  Even most HTs/meds that have an autoloader can't clip most other tanks if they have full health.

 

In regards to the M41 I would like to point out that the damage was buffed to 175 per shot.  This means that yes, it's still nerfed, it's only a 450 damage nerf and not a 600 damage nerf as it would first appear.  This puts it in line with other autoloaders in that it generally can't clip a tank from full health but it can still reasonably clip a tank that has been even mildly wounded.

I now go with the standard gun because you get higher DPM now.  With the 10 round autoloader, the DPM's were about equal.

 

you have a point. I mean they robed us of the T-37;s autoloader. though it was a bit OP with it.......:mellow:

Got pretty frustrated last night about the games in my two lights. But not sure what to be frustrated about exactly... Consistency or maps i got as a light. Seems like overall lights still suffer on some maps though. Can anyone confirm that my consistency should have suffered on the maps where I did poorly?

No, it wasn't.  Single shot was buffed to 170.  Autoloader still sits at 150.

As someone who has grinded out the original French line up to tier 10, the only tank I actually enjoy out of that line is the Lorraine. Which has been nerfed, then buffed, then removed just to be extorted sold back to me for $50. It still doesn't feel like the old tank I used to know and love. the main thing I hate is the accuracy changes.

Because of the very vocal minority of people that seem to control the destiny of this game...

 

Seriously, it's partly to do with normalizing matchmaking for light tanks.  They were amped up to be able to fight 3 tiers above their level.

I now go with the standard gun because you get higher DPM now.  With the 10 round autoloader, the DPM's were about equal.

 

previously the autoloader had a bit lower dpm, but burst damage is potent when managed properly, and by using the auto loader one could and should run both optics & vents thereby maximizing both view range, camo, and gun handling.

 

the new auto loader gun weighs a LOT more than the single shot gun, and the dpm is now abysmal.  given the overlapping mm tiering the bulldog with an auto loader is going to lose to a T71, and even many single shot guns...

 

I have switched my own bulldog to the single shot gun, but it lost it's joy to play for a number of reasons.  one of the main ones being that I never, ever wanted to be a top tier LT, even way back when my chaffee saw tier 10s circa 2012.  being a bottom tier affords the player the unique experience and even luxury of flitting around and getting intel while being annoying.

 

being top tier means you must carry your weight, or lose disproportionately...  

 

something sadly that 3 tier 9 LTs overlooked when they all tried to passive spot as top tier in the middle swamp area on karelia, all within the same map square...  (one can't make that level of stupidity up)

so far the only LT I find to be significantly nerfed is the SP1C.

 

without the autoloader it is just horrid to play.

And other tank classes perform badly on some maps to so what is the point?

My point was, i think its still more map than anything else with lights still. Although i havent played lights lower than tier 6 in a while.

  • too complex to explain to people platooning that the light tanks in their platoon must be a tier lower than the other types of tanks in platoon
  • development constraints.. the probably need to make major changes in how people can accept invites to platoons to accommodate custom requirements like that
  •  - (that is why they couldn't allow just one arty per platoon yet even if they might have preferred it)
  • they felt like shaking things up a bit
  • - (many people argue that to keep people interested you need change... I don't think that is as true for the much older average age demographic of this games players)
  • they wanted consistency of how light tanks played at tier 9 and 10 compared to lower tiers  --- so they changed 5 through 8 to accommodate what 9 and 10 must do
  • they want to sell expensive tier 8 light premium tanks soon ...( I'm not sure their changes really help this one way or another though.)

 

They're not going to roll back the light tank changes...

... so there is no such thing as a "light tank" as we knew it before

... there is such a thing as a "faster lighter medium" with less role distinction...especially when they are the higher tier tanks in a match

On the right map the old LT still very much exists.  I regularly passive and/or active scout.  But now I would say that LTs are also better equipped to deal with actual combat that they will find themselves in due to more LTs running around and because of so many maps that don't allow for scouting.  That isn't to say that work isn't still needed (for example a game wide VR rebalance) but I feel that a lot of LTs are better off now.
