Win rate before 9.18.... 50-54%. After 9.18....30%.... No contact list! GONE! Skill stacking 7 out of 10 matches. I now play 3 to 6 matches a day. I'll say it again ... SKILL STACKING! You know it WG! it's the 800 lb. gorilla in the room you refuse to come clean about. You have taken a very cool and fun game and screwed it! Not to mention you throw 30 players into the same old tin can sized maps round after round.... ahhh, what's the use! So here it is. War Thunder tank game sucks, but planes are a blast! My kids finally got me to try it after begging me for two years. I defended WOT, and it's superior play to the 9's, but no more. This month my funds go to War Thunder. I will not uninstall WOT, but you can do with it what you want, it can't get any worse. I will check in now and then, maybe return with a little $$$$, if you still even exist.

Advice;  Get honest, listen to veteran players when we ask for larger, and more maps. Nobody want's absolutely balanced skill on both teams, but come on! address the issue, or frustration and boredom WILL destroy your game.   Over the last 4 years I have watched the player population falling steadily. There used to be 28,000 and up on most nights in NA server...now? 18-24. On most nights there are between 60 and 70,000 players on NA War Thunder! Sorry, but it's true.

Not sure awesome is the word I would use. Call it what it is...they have ruined it in an "awesome" way.

Out of the last 300 battles I have been top tier 41 times, my team looses 8 out of 10 battles and it is always VERY lopsided...7 to 15 or worse. Thanks for screwing up 4 years of good stats.

+1

From a 9.17 game of the people, to a 9.18 underhanded Wall Street-D.C predator consumable ooze of a slimy sleaze type of “awesome” factor, which you wouldn't ever touch, and/or stand close to!

Three awesome things about 9.18 (IMO):

  1. Not getting on shotted by Arty
  2. Not seeing the same map 3 times in a row
  3. Re-usable consumables

9.18 was a game changer, it wasn't the first and will not be the last.  If you can't deal with change, you've picked the wrong game to play.

Have fun dealing with a shrinking player base.

  1. Not getting on shotted by Arty Sure, the stupid stun mechanic is soooo much better than the potential to perhaps be one shotted MAYBE once every day out of 30 or more battles
  2. Not seeing the same map 3 times in a row Sorry, but this still happens
  3. Re-usable consumables The single stupidest, strat ruining change introduced since the respawns of Rampage.

I did a study when the 9.18 update first came out. It started by accident, but when I saw a trend happening, I decided to delve a little deeper to make sure I wasn't just getting bad luck. I played a tank I hadn't played before for 100 games (102 total now). It was the VK 30.01 D. It is a decent tank. Circon called it the "German Cromwell" in a video around that time and I thought I would try it out. I'm always looking for a new tank to have fun with. After my first 50 games I was at a 42% win rate and I was hardly ever top tier. In the next 50 games I jumped up to 58% for a total of 50% win rate in 100 games. I was top tier 8 times in 100 games at tier 6 (top tier = tier 6, with tiers 5 and 4 in the match). That equates to 8% of the time! Since I played that tank exclusively for the duration of this experiment, I knew I was playing at a high level and didn't deserve this win rate disaster. My win rate was being controlled by the luck of my teammates in high tier matches. No matter how well I played, it didn't matter. I couldn't compete with failing tier 8s. My WN8 in the VK 30.01 D is 2543. I played 2 more games since then and sold the tank so that WN8 is pretty representative of my efforts during my time playing it.

My win rate distribution for those 100 games reflected my tier level in each match for the most part, which makes logical sense. The higher tier I was, the higher my win rate because I had more control over the match. Here are the results* :

Top Tier = 8  games (6 wins - 2 losses 75% win rate)
Partial Top = 0 (NA)
Middle = 22 (13-8-1 59%)
Only Tier Six = 23 (12-11 52%)
Partial Bottom = 1 (1-0 100%)
Bottom = 46 (18-28 39%)

* I defined the tiers as follows, in order of favorability for the general player due to tanks at a lower tier than that player:

Top tier (ex. Tier 6 to 4)
Partial Top Tier (Tier 6 to 5)
Middle Tier (Tier 7-5)
Only Tier (Only tier 6)
Partial Bottom Tier (Tier 7-6)
Bottom Tier (Tier 8-6)

The new Match Maker mechanic of setting up teams in a 3-5-7 format is a disaster for most players. In the old MM you would be top tier (with tanks two tiers lower than you) about 30-35% of the time (rough estimate). Now it is about 8-15% of the time depending on the tier you are playing. While you have more control over the outcome of the match as a lower tier, you are at that lower tier most of the time (almost 50% of the time now). In trying to fix the problem of people complaining about being useless as a bottom tier (they would be in a match with eight tier 8s and five tier 7s and they are one of two tier 6s), now these players are bottom tier most of the time. There are more lower tiers in the match to shoot at, but almost half of the enemy team is still higher than them and they are still frustrated, but now they are frustrated more than they used to be due to the frequency of being on the bottom.

For me personally, I would rather be in a match or two as the only tier 6 tank in a tier 8 match, yet know that I am going to be top tier in at least 30% of the matches. I don't mind lower tier battles and I enjoy the challenge. The issue is that I also enjoy being top tier and feeling like my tank is actually a tank and not a support vehicle all the time.

These are mostly great changes. It isn't these changes that I think people care about. Being lower tier most of the time seems to be frustrating people the most from what I have heard from others. In my example above, tier 6 was a really fun tier with a great assortment of tanks to play. Yet now, if you are going to see tier 8 battles 50% of the time and only be top tier about 10% of the time, these tanks lose their luster and become more frustrating to play than fun. I agree with you that these changes are good. The MM needs to be fixed though. It is making the game less fun and that is when people go shopping for another game to play, which I don't want. I love this game and it seems they made a mistake with the new MM.

um....get gud? ...um..I mean... get awesome!

can't get gud if they throw "awesome" APCR and "awesome" HEAT rounds that are "amazingly" available for everyone to "readily" spend 5 to 10 grand per terrific shell that omits a tank's "amazing" armor to a nearly "outstanding" paper-thin level....

You want people to get "gud" they should make that "awesome ammo" only available for Gold again, like it should be.

It's one thing if a tank never used a counterpart ammo like AP (for instance certain lights, STRV's and such), which is fine to give them it as standard ammo... It's a totally different thing when you're dealing with "sweet" bonuses because you spent a nice chunk of your change just to waste it off in one game while other players have an abysmal time even retaining credits, due to one reason or another (usually crap teams.... like this one i had: http://wotreplays.com/site/3599053#redshire-lycan_knight-l_we .)

Tier 8's spamming premium ammo on tier 6's, tier 3/4 players spamming APCR on the newbies at tier 1 and 2... yeah totally an "awesome" game with a "perfectly working economy" and "excellant player retension" record... and an "outstanding" current playerbase to match it... but by all means, tell people to "get gud" in this "awesome game"

went from 50k players in 2011 to 2013

It has decreased to less than 20k on peak hours this year... it's been decreasing, the only surge of players we ever get is when a new patch comes out. And that lasts about 3-5 days before it shrinks again.

let's just say... 9.18 patch saw a boost to 37,319 players at the high point in the first week... our normal playerbase is 20k. so we saw a raise in 17k or so.

the decrease came shortly after, and now we're not seeing above 14k.... which means on top of the 17k players we saw "bump" the servers up, we LOST 6k normal players to the average counter. So yes, they've been leaving.
