Where can I find a decent tutorial for a new player?

I've spent lots of time on YouTube and it's all 3 or 5 years old.

A -Z type of thing.  Not so much tactics but research and the garage.

thanks in advance!!

I'm in the process of creating such a guide. Unfortunately it's not ready for publication yet.

If you need help with navigating the Garage, you may post any specific questions you have about it here; and I will respond to the best of my ability. Alternatively, if you have a program such as TeamViewer, I would be willing to take you step by step through the Garage in an interactive manner.

Best of luck to you with your new player experience! I hope you have fun!

Right here in these forums. Go to the "Game Guides" section and that is full of learning materials for the game.

Here is the link but you can find this area in the "World of Tanks Game Discussion" section of the forum.

While the YouTube videos may be dated, they are still applicable.  My two cents:

  • Don't rush up the tiers;
  • Learn from your mistakes;
  • Do play smart and don't YOLO - unless you want to die an early death in the beginning;
  • Don't be a douch to other players;
  • Figure out your play style and what tanks you like to play and not play; everybody's different;
  • Most importantly- HAVE Fun.  There are way too many people who take this game WAY too seriously;

There are also books you can read that can give good info.

I've been through the tutorials posted in this forum and they really don't address my needs.

My specific questions are how to start up the Tech tree and research for medium tanks and/or artillery.

Thanks!

Look for AgingJedi on YouTube. He covers a lot of low tier tanks.

Cool.  I guess one more specific question would be when I go to the tech tree, I see parts.  Part and parts and parts.  It's completely confusing.

AgingJedi has around 50 videos on there and I want to play, not make a part time job out of this.

The turorial system on this game is absolutely abysmal.

You are given an array of garage slots, most holding tier 1 tanks for each tree. You play these tanks in battles and earn silver star Experience Points(x2 bonus for first victory in each tank). You use experience points to research new modules for your tank(guns, radios, turrets, suspension, engines) and unlock new tanks

To get a new vehicle that you've unlocked, you buy with silver coin Credits.

You play tier 1 to unlock the tier 2's, you play whatever tier 2 you want to unlock whatever tier 3 is available to it and so on

The first thing I would do is make a new account and using a new player code to get a free premium tank. I think there is a code for a free churchill 3 premium and another one for some tier 2 or 3 premium tank. Since you just started, it wouldn't be a big deal to scrap this account for a new one anyways.

For a Churchill 3 premium:

WOTREDDIT

I think you also get 500 gold and 7 days of premium time. Also, once your account is created, go back and change your password and you get 250 free gold. So that is a way to get 750 free gold.

Alright, here's a quick rundown of the parts in the Tech Tree.

Each tank has modules - These are essentially upgrades to the tanks. These include guns, turrets, tracks, radios and engines.

Guns - Guns are a tank's primary source of firepower. It's always worthwhile researching these. You generally will need the upgraded turret to mount upgraded guns however.

Turrets - Turrets enhance your tank's View Range, and sometimes armor or gun depression. You usually will need to research the turret to mount an upgraded gun.

Engines - Engines give your tank the grunt in its mobility. Better engine = faster tank. On most tanks it's a useful upgraded, but there are a few tanks where they're not necessary.

Tracks - A tank's tracks generally will increase your load limit - This makes your tank able to mount heavier modules and equipment. This is usually the first thing you have to research on a tank.

Radios - Radios are the least useful equipment. After Tier 6, you usually don't need to upgrade them. At Tiers 1-4 though, they're worth getting. Tier 5-6, depends on the tank.

When researching a tank, you should usually first upgrade its Tracks, the the Turret, then Guns, engine and lastly radio.

To research another tank, you usually have to research the module which leads up to it. You will see an arrow coming off of one of the modules pointing to the next tank's icon in the Tech Tree.

Light tanks have a diamond as their symbol. Medium tanks have two diagonal lines. Heavy tanks have 3 diagonal lines. Tank Destroyers are marked with a triangle and artillery are marked with a square.
