I don't recall the IS7 being changed much or at all recently. What you're probably talking about is the IS7 being power creeped on- and to that I would agree. However, doesn't disregard the fact that the IS7 has its uses and I still like it.

i think he's talking about IS-7 from 2011 time when it reigned supreme everywhere. the tank has been nerfed quite a bit since then especially the gun.

People always say that the IS-7 is underpowered.  This isn't the case at all. The only problem with the IS-7 is that it's near perfectly balanced.  Same goes for tanks like the OBJ. 263 and IS-4.  Tanks have become so ridiculously powerful they make all the balanced tanks look terrible.  And what seems to make a tank OP or just powerful?  The gun.  What does the entire waffle line have?  Nothing but a gun.  The T57?  The TD's?  The FV?  E-100? (think E-100 vs Maus.  E-100 trades armor for gun and wins hands down.)Something the IS-7 doesn't have that great of.  Or IS-4 or 263.  The IS-7 is NOT underpowered, just extremely balanced.  Tier 10 becomes more broken with every new line released.

I remember back in the day's of 6.8-7.4 where the IS7 was the tank to avoid at all costs. Now it's just more cannon fodder with less armor than similar ranked tanks and its abysmal amount of HP. Really?

IS7 needs 300HP buff to make it more enjoyable to play in or play against.

So IS4 > IS7.

Odd considering the IS4 used to be a Tier 9 prior to the IS7...

The gun is so unreliable, it's kind of sad. The E 100 with the big boy is a sniper compared to this.

I like the IS7 way better than my E100, at least now, in their current state.

The gun is better IMO, just because it penetrates more consistently, with non-gold ammo, compared to the E100.  The E100 gun is way more streaky and unreliable.

Both of the tanks get penetrated rather easily, though, it's just easier to hide the IS7.

playing my IS-7 more often now (On the track event)

and i'm astonished how Craptastic this tank has become, compare it to every other Tier 10 and it just pales, JUST PALES

[edited]pen, accuracy, armor doesnt hold as much as it should, its speed if fine, so is the sides, but when i cant pen a 50B with APCR 4 times ina row (i'm sure rng trolled me HARD there), something IS wrong with it.

actually armor is the only good thing on it, hide lower plate even a lil and you'll get a lot of bounces. but in firepower and mobility its a real dog. just lacking

Right now I'm glad I only spent 4.2 million on this tank for the On-Track event. Armor is the only thing that is decent. Its speed really isn't anything to write home about. Its gun gives up every other stat except for Alpha strike when compared to other Tier X heavies. The low HP also limits survivability. Not really seeing anything that shines about the IS-7.

I just sold off my IS 7 can't stand to play it any more at all; its been nerfed and other tanks have been buffed to the point its no longer really a tier 10 tank anymore its more of a tier 8 tank now.  Its just no fun anymore.

I'm not an expert player and I do not play in clans/teams/platoons, only randoms, but I find the IS-7 sufficiently good as is, not really needing a buff. It's my favorite among other tier 10s I have (E-100, Maus, T-62A and E-50M).

Ever since a nerf to the lower plate its crap. The plate is just too large comparedto many other tanks, so you will find yourself without armor in a lot of situations. The top armor is very-very situational and that's about the only thing it still has going for it.

And no, it can'tbe angled, so keep receving presents to your lower plate all game.

I have to admit, I am new to this tank so I am definitely no super expert on it. Regardless, the first issue that stands out bad is the gun. I mean its pretty much a cold hard fact that the gun is rather crappy outside of the damage it can deal. First you have to make it pen, and at that point it has two things constantly working against it. Low pen on the Ap, and the accuracy is also pretty bad.

To make the gun really perform you are going to have to rely on premium ammo to compensate for the thing not being able to hit the mark well. It's aim is almost on par with derp guns. Whats rather shameful is that after getting this tank I went back and looked at video reviews and saw that prior this thing had more pen on AP. At one time it was a halfway decent gun due to higher pen.

You couple this with long reloads, crap gun depression, and a low HP pool for a tier 10 heavy, and that ends up providing you with a pretty unforgiving tank. You can't afford to make mistakes in this thing, or let your weak spots be exposed at all. Get even slightly sloppy and your HP wont last. This thing is prone to ammo racking just like the IS-3 was, regardless of safe stowage or wet racks (I think Jingles review covered that issue, and in my own experience I have found it to hold true). You wont be able to out DPM most other tier 10 heavies unless you do a lot of bouncing of their shots due to your low HP pool.

I honestly don't recommend this tank to anyone that was not able to make the IS-8 or something like the VK 45.02A work. This tank is much like those, in that it is not forgiving. If you are a average player you will get meh results and probably get frustrated. If you are below average then you will fail hard in it. Going up to tier 10 shouldn't mean tanks should become steadily worse, but in all honesty the IS-8 was a bit of a letdown coming from the IS-3, and the IS-7 seems to be a bit of a letdown in some ways too, coming from the IS-8.

Its like a steady descent into mediocre performance concerning certain aspects of each tank, so you need to be a good enough player that you recognize those faults and know how to make up for them. I would have a pretty hard time truly ranking the IS-7 as better over the IS-8, because it really isn't a serious step up from it. To me both are different but equal, in that neither is terrible, nor amazing, but both can perform.

Sure the IS-8 had laughable hull armor, and it handled like a 1970s Bonneville, but at least it did have good speed when going in a straight line, even with the stock engine. Add that the turret was pretty good, and the gun had good accuracy, good pen on AP ammo, and good damage. With the IS-7 you trade out that speed for better upper frontal armor, and some side armor. Pen and accuracy is tossed aside in favor of slightly higher average damage per shot, and you get just slightly more HP.  Neither tank is forgiving, and yet, in the hands of a good player who knows how to exploit strengths and hide weaknesses, both tanks can rock.

Do I hate the IS-7? No. Am I in love with it? No. I will make it work though, just like I made the IS-8 work for me, and I don't regret grinding to it after putting some time in with it the past couple of days and seeing what I need to do to make it perform. I have a habit of taking tanks people seem to hate a lot and making them work. In all honesty though I see this tank really excelling in a platoon more then in solo play. As is I have been able to squeeze out an average damage per match of 2,413 with it according to vBAddict, regardless of not platooning with it.

I'm one of those tank collectors who likes to add eclectic machines to the managerie based on a tank manifesting at least one of three characteristics along with the usual vehicle details:

--the unusual (e.g. Russian Obj  130 II--rear mounted turret with entire crew in the turret, or the lethal and fast E-25 TD--two of these could be stacked inside a Maus turret);

--the ugly or simply bad looking (e.g. TOG II and the gnarly T95);

--aesthetically beautiful (e.g. Leo II, STB-1, WZ-132 or 131 to name a few).

The IS-7 falls into the last category and I would add one major item to your list of pros--it has to be the most beautiful heavy in the game.

It's on my list of collectables not least because of that.

I had a IS-7 back in beta. The gun itself hasn't really changed much, it was never very accurate and it had a long aim time. However it was much faster in acceleration then it is now. The problem is that it has simply been power creeped out, The guns like the 122mm on the IS-8 (T-10) and IS-4 didn't exist, in fact the IS-4 had the S-70 as well. The armor is nothing to most of the fantasy guns on the more recently introduced vehicles. I took mine out for a few matches yesterday and my armor didn't stop a single shot. A T110E4 panic fired at me while backing up perpendicular to me and the standard AP round slammed right through the upper front plate. The turret is the only thing the IS-7 had going for it really anymore and the new HD model having reduced it in size has actually made it less useful then before.

Also, sadly the new HD model, while more detailed has to me really eroded the futuristic [edited]look the the IS7 had before. Me and my friends have all remarked it is probably the first HD model that has made a vehicle look worse. (Not less accurate mind you, just visually less impressive)

Why did they fold down the Machinegun on the roof?  Is that to they can give it better camo rating?

IS-7 was my first tier x tank years back, I was rather frustrated with it back then because i thought, here you go i made it, i have a tier x heavy now and i should be able to crush everything in my pass. Quickly learned that, that was not the case. I had very dismal results on it. After years of playing WOT and my overall skill in the game going dramatically up, today I love playing IS-7 and got my second start on the barrel. Its a very universal heavy that can work on variety of maps, and especially if you can find spots to have a hull down position or cover the body of the tank it is very very hard to kill. You can block advance of the enemy team in a strategic area and unless they have truly superior numbers you can make them pay dearly to get you out. Unless the balance of the match is at a tipping point, just as with any other tank, don't try to blindly advance. Once the right moment in the match has come where your advance can tip the outcome of the battle, then you can use your HP and troll armor to advance and lead the push on the enemy.
