Not so long ago we’ve shared the plans about the rebalancing of some vehicles branches. And today we’re ready to share the first details about the upcoming changes: to the ST go the Japanese tanks. We plan to test a complex change of vehicles of medium and top tiers. The purpose of rebalancing Japanese heavies is to improve the branch balance, to save battle effectiveness and applicability of Japanese heavies, and at the same time to create equal conditions in battle for the vehicles of other nations.

We plan to test the following vehicles:

  • Tanks of Tier IX and X will have revised armor: We added some parts to the front armor with thickness of 240-260 mm for Tier X and 220-240 mm for Tier IX. Their maneuverability and speed will be adjusted so they are a bit better than what the Maus has. The frontal armor of these vehicles, unlike Germans of the same class, didn’t have any vulnerabilities and could only be penetrated with premium ammo. We have added the changes to some parts of frontal armor to make it possible for their opponents to fight them on equal terms.

  • The tank of Tier VIII O-HO will get premium ammo with an armor penetration value around  250-260 mm for the gun 10 cm Experimental Tank Gun Kai. Previously, this gun didn’t have AP shells with enough penetration for damaging, due to which players didn’t have opportunity to choose game style – the tank was playable only as a derp.
  • The tank O-I will have a bit weaker rear armor, in order to decrease tank’s domination in a battle, especially towards the tanks of lower tiers.  Previously, low-tier vehicles could not damage the O-I even if they managed to flank it. After the changes flanking will work.

  • Tank O-I Exp V of Tier V will get improved front armor in order to more effectively stand against high-tier vehicles and to perform the role of breakthrough tank. Moreover, 105-mm gun will be removed from this vehicle, which was disproportionately effective on Tier V. The mobility of the tank will be decreased.

But how did the tanks get into the game in such an unbalanced state in the first place?

so 260/270 flat is a weak spot on the type 5 ?!!!! you know without the shoulder weak spot that the type used to have players can still angle that 260/270 flat armor to get up to a good 290/300 effective and that is no weak spot for regular rounds on any tier 10s except the tds
and while you at it guys can you please give them competitive guns instead of the big derp guns
i don't see no mause but still a step in a good derection

Since this is your first video game, it is not unusual for tanks, guns, classes or whatever to undergo a series of adjustments  The Japanese heavy line has undergone a couple of rounds of nerfs/buff/changes as more date has come in. For example the Type 5 was regarded as worthless until a recent buff.  Having seen that the buff was too much WG is readjusting it. As you gain more experience with video games, especially MMOs, you'll see these adjustments are common and won't be so shocked that everything isn't perfectly balanced right out of the gate.

Because after the Japanese Medium tank line WG wrongfully thought that the only way a new tank line would be played would be for it to be "Good"...

(Other than the tier 6 & 10 the Japanese Mediums were pretty underwhelming at launch)

To make short term profit of course. They needed another OP tank for players to free xp to. This requires gold and gold makes them money. Another good example is the old tier 10 auto loading German TD replaced by the Grille.

WG cares only about short term profit and has never cared about actual game balance.

So wait wait wait...the Type 4 and Type 5 will be BUFFED in speed AGAIN and you took 10mm-20mm from a couple of small spots in the front?  Oh yeah that TOTALLY fixes them......

+1 for you...

Some folks not only expect perfection from others, they expect it easily and instantly.

Those folks like to criticize as that comes easy to them.

260 and 270...flat on.....is weak?

WG...what is the pen of tier 10 tanks (non gold)

what is the pen of tier 8 and 9s that will SEE this?

i'm hoping those pictures are just not updated and you actually ment 240mm.  not 260.(effective)

also.  tier 9 has tier 7 and 8s that see it.   a weakspot must be pennable by them.   avg pen of tier 7 is 175.   avg pen of tier 8 is 210.

see an issue there?  i said AVG.    aka there are tanks with less.

weakspots are not weakspots if you STILL NEED GOLD TO PEN THEM.

It has long been one of the game's unwritten rules that heavy armor needs weakspots. When you have armor that's strong enough to provide reliable protection and has no frontal weakspot, then you get the situation where that armor is mindless to use and also mindless to fight against. It also creates the obnoxious dichotomy of either being completely invulnerable or completely pointless. RNG may mix up these results from time to time, but RNG is by its very nature unpredictable and unreliable. And it too can be categorized to be at best a necessary evil and at worst an unnecessary evil.

But the real punchline to this joke is that there's always been another way to model vehicle durability, and that's hit points. Heavies don't need to be utterly invincible to still be durable.

The OI Experimental was the only Tier 5 heavy to stand up to the KV1 and KV1S, Is it safe to assume that the 122 will be removed soon from these tanks?  Seems only fair as their HEAT rounds will still cut through the new armor on the Experimental.

I said a long time ago that the rear armor on the OI should be weakened, but I think the reload time should be brought back down closer to the KV2's derp if this update goes through.  This tank is already unplayable in tournaments and Global Map.  I have always been amazed at how few people know about the severe weak spots on the front of the OI.
