Today I am going to write a review about the Tier 6 German TD the Jagdpanzer IV, for many people it is a pile of crap and should never exist in the game whatsoever. But I really like it especially after the pen buff and the MM changes. It is currently my most played tank (close to 3k games) and my favorite tank by far in the game(got 3 marks of excellence).

Before I start I am going to put a disclaimer:

Disclaimer: This review is my first review and may be a bit lacking. It is also entirely my personal opinion and you may disagree with it. I am not a good player, just someone who enjoys playing the Jagdpanzer IV and wants to write a review.

So right now I will list down the pros and cons of the tanks:

Pros:

-Impressive base dpm (2,550).

-Amazing camo values (currently 10th best camo value in the whole game).

-Quite agile (36.51 degrees/sec) and fast to accelerate due to good power to weight ratio (17.77).

-The 8,8cm Pak L/56 has good soft stats, reload, accuracy, and aim time.

-View range is quite good for a closed top TD (350m).

-Bouncy frontal armor and great gun mantlet.

-Good amount of hitpoints(600)

-Gun arc is adequate (24 degrees)

Cons:

-No turrent.

-Penetration for the 8,8 is low by TD standards.

-Engine dies a lot and loves catching fire.

-Side and rear armor gets penetrated like a bloody w****.

-While the frontal armor is well sloped, it is still easy to penetrate due to thickness.

-Slowest shell velocity in tier 6 TD's.

-Disgusting gun depression (-6).

-Mediocre top speed (40km/h).

Equipment:

Binoculars, Camo Net, Gun rammer. (Vents for aggressive players.)

Crew skills:

Commander: Six sense, Camo,  BIA, repairs, choose whatever u like.

Gunner: Camo, BIA, Deadeye, repairs, choose whatever u like.

Driver: Camo, BIA, Clutch Breaking, Off Road Driving, repairs, whatever u like.

Loader: Camo, BIA, Safe Storage, repairs.

Playstyle: (Sniper/Assault gun)

This tank has an good gun and camo, so it is advisable to use this tank as an sniper. Hide 15 meters behind a bush and snipe the enemies to death using the good dpm and gun. But if the scouts in your team are drunk (like in most games), use your binoculars to extend your view range to spot enemy tanks.

Your camo value is good in most cases so with the right crew skills and equipment as long you don't fire your gun at close ranges you should be able to stay hidden in most situations.

If you are top tier you can play this tank as an assault gun, but beware of the weak side and rear armor and while your traverse is good, without a turrent you can still be easily outflanked by the enemy.

Due to the low pen of the gun even with gold if you face tanks with good armor don't just spam gold because you will still bounce, you de-track them and let your team finish them off.

Conclusion:

This tank is a fun tank to play but only with a player who knows how to play TD's and has a good crew in it. It is certainly enjoyable when you get the grips of it.

Note: A few rules of driving this tank.

-Bushes and six sense are your friends.

-If you can spot the enemy, expect them to be able to spot you.

-Never stay in the same spot unless it is necessary.

-Know which tank you can't pen and avoid fighting with them unless necessary.

-Never get into close quarters combat unless necessary.

-Use your hitpoints wisely.

-If you are hunting artillery, use your stealth and view range with binos wisely.

-Never trade shots unless necessary.

-Read the minimap, it is important.

-Know when to move forward or retreat.

-If you want to spot for the team, never fire a shot.

This tank is awesome.

Closest thing you can to an E-25.

Jagdpabzer iv was garbage when I owned it. Before the 88mm buff. That probably really improved it.

And that's because they're used to the old version that was terrible. The buffs applied to the JP4 were pretty massive all things considered, so it has become something of a hidden gem these days. In fact, I'm willing to forgive the lack of a turret and say that the only major reason not to play JP4 is that its APCR just can't deal with the new premium heavies frontally. If only the penetration was a little better, then the JP4 would be an outstanding TD.

As for running it, I think there's only one equipment loadout that makes sense, and that's vents/rammer/binoculars. My reasoning is that first of all, this setup will allow you to get view range past the 445m spotting cap, which takes a lot more crew training to do without the vents. And secondly, I've been very jaded against the camo net. Once you're actually spotted, then all the camo rating you have means nothing while you're engaging, whereas if you instead invest in view range, DPM, et cetera these will still be useful even when the enemy sees you. Also that view range is generally a more valuable asset because it brings in spot assists, which are both lucrative and practical.

Depends on the vehicle. If concealment is over 40% then a net won't do you much good and 40% is easy to achieve with crew skills in the JP4.

My JP4 has vents and a crew with BIA. 110% crew makes a noticable difference in long range accuracy.

I like it, currently at a 53.57% WR in it.   Don't like the slow accel and top speed.  DPM is great

The acceleration on mine is great, but probably because I have BIA and Off-Road Driving.

You must be used to driving heavy tanks. Acceleration on my JP4 is sluggish but I normally drive a T67.

The T67 goes like a rocket but yes I am used to driving slow tanks....

Acceleration isn't affected by BIA, nor by Off-Road Driving on Hard terrain (only by 2.5 % on normal and 10% on soft), so crew skill is pretty much irrelevant. But the JgPz's 17.53 hp/t is better than most tank's.

It's a DPM monster (2,897 DPM with a good crew, rammer, and vents; 3,026 with chocolate). It fires so fast (4.5 sec) and so hard (220 alpha) that many enemies can be bullied into panicking.

I love this TD, and use its nimbleness and DPM to play it very aggressively: it's one of only two tanks that I've 3-marked (before the gun buff), and I have a WinRate in it that's 6% above my overall. It can be tricky to judge how aggressive to be, but if you get that right, this tank rewards aggressive play very well.

Ah, sorry for not notifying that my Jagdpanzer IV accelerates pretty good even on medium or soft terrain thanks to the combination of good hp/t and off road driving.

Usually you are not driving it on hard surface as it doesn't do well brawling in cities, so off road does help on accelerating and turning  most of the time.

It is a fun little tank OP, I like it much better than the E25, good review.

Speaking of the E25, JP4 88/56 cannon has similiar penetration but does a lot more damage per shot.

What the E25 has is an incredible power to weight ratio that enables it to effortlessly climb to sniping locations in a manner similiar to the T67.

Not a bad tank these days, the Flatpanzer. L/56 buff helped it a lot. It doesn't really stand out, but for that reason a lot of people tend to underestimate it.

If you like to snipe with the JP4 then try the free T34/85M. Gun has similiar performance and it's mounted in a decent turret. View range and mobility both superior to JP4. T34 concealment is not as good but it's not horrible either. With paint and crew skills it's easy to achieve a concealment greater then 20%.

Trust me, its -6 hun depression for a casemate tank isn't that bad and its about average.

Now wait til you play the SU101 which has the worst gun depression in the game and by that I mean none at all. I can't stand playing that tank because of the gun depression its far too situational of a tank and don't get me started on that 3.1 second aim time.
