So I'm poking around in the tech tree, planning what I might do next, and something strikes me as odd.

Stock turret on Pz. 38 nA is 50/30/25 Armor, 32 Traverse, 330 View Range, and weighs 1,200Kg

"Upgraded" turret is 30/20/20 Armor, 44 Traverse, 370 View Range, and weighs 2,200Kg

Less armor all around yet it weighs a ton more.

Is this just another instance of "Because...reasons" logic? Is my tech tree borked? Can someone explain this?

It's a light tank. Armor values are meaningless.

Much better turret traverse and view range. If you don't see that as an upgrade, perhaps light tanks aren't for you.

As to weight, whatever is powering that turret to spin around a lot faster probably weighs a lot.

Then again, these aren't tanks. They are pixels.

Sometimes better shape of a turret gives it better effective armor too, unlikely with a German tank though. The weight of the thing is an imaginary value that's there to make you research the better tracks first. That's all.

I'm guessing it weighs more due to the 12 degrees of increased traverse and increased view range.  Not for just reasons, but the motor that makes a turret move faster is part of the turret system, which would make it weigh more to make it go faster.  Just a logic guess on this, though.  Less armor is probably what allows the unit to move a bit faster and probably makes the view range higher (which doesn't make 'logic' sense to me, because view should be a function of optics and increased ability to see, not necessarily less armor. )  My best answer for you.  Not sure if it's accurate, though.

Did you buy into the realism advertisement, cause warning danger" Will Robinson".  Wots is all made up and realism of actual armor is not wots specialty. But the background is top rate and the tanks are good looking, its the nuts and bolts of game play that it falls short, but that's how it looks to me.

Bigger radio and better turret traverse system?

isn't that like a tier 3 tank or something? Like, are you actually complaining about armor at tier 3 or 4? Everything pens u regardless.......

In other words, "Because....Reasons" logic...   Yeah the upgrade turret gives better stats, but he does have a valid question. I've seen cases just like this, even when the upgrade turret seems worse than the stock one.

Well, you are partially correct. You mentioned that its heavier because of the view range, well thats it, but not for the reasons you mentioned. Did you ever notice how your eyes drop a little when you look at things that are far away? Thats because the further you look, the heavier the visual data becomes. Thats what causes your eyes to drop a little, its the increased weight of all that extra visual data that your brain now has to process. Does that make sense(I hope not. LOL)

The upgraded turret features a much larger gun mantlet, which adds another 30mm to much of the front of the turret.  Still not a huge amount at Tier 4, but may help at times.

Not only is the stock turret better armored for less weight, its also bigger. Big enough that the weight in steel alone should account for anything inside of it, Yea, this is just an oddity in the balancing because reasons. Its not the only thing like this.

A couple of people have mentioned that the tanks are really just pixels, right.

A couple more should mention that the published stats are just published words.    Sometimes advertising.   Often just bait.   With luck documentation.

There is no solid link or connection between what wiki throws out for numbers, what WoT garage numbers are screened, and the actual data used by the game logic.   Any one of the numbers are subject to input error.   Like with the Friends List logic/documentation/code.      In fact, the numbers could all be the same and correct and the logic could be wrong, producing bounces or pens (in the case of turret 'armor;) that shouldn't happen.

Nah, the upgraded turret's mantlet covers a 0mm hole except for a bit of overlap around the edges, so you're still looking at less steel than the stock turret's.

I'm guessing the weight discrepancy is due to the documentation that WG used as source material.

Its larger, to an extent that even though the metal is thinner, the overall mass is more.

...also its a game.

It's the 650lb lens that lets you see an extra 40 feet.

That is weird.

On the plus side, you probably get more HP with the upgraded turret.
