How can this happen? My KV-2 was hiding behind a dead ally O-I hull and a T-29 from in  front managed to set me on fire with only my turret visible to him. I can understand an rack going off but fire?

Cost me the game.

Russian tank crews keep vodka bottles within their reach, gunner and commander probably had it in the turret comrade.

Troll alert!

The flag on left would make a good horse blanket.

Did you happen to notice whether it was an engine or fuel tank fire?

Do you remember if the round was HE or AP?

Maybe you werent as hidden as you thought you were.  Might have had some of your hull open to being shot from the angle of the incoming shot.

Ammo can burn without exploding. Ammo racks are catastrophic events.

WoT doesn't currently model ammo rack fires, afaik.

Just checked...you're  correct.  Only fuel tank and engine hits cause fires...my bad.

Was the shot from above?  You still hit the tanks or engine if the angle is severe enough.

OK, once more...

This is a VIDEO game.  This GAME is simply a WHOLE BUNCH of calculations done by a great big computer in lightning fast speed.

Basically every single time you input data, (Press the "W" key) the computer does a calculation.  If this then that.  If "W", then (check for modifiers... engine? Tracks? Driver? Obstacle? etc...) move pixel 1(check for modifiers....) over and over again.  The computer doesn't care about you.  It simply does the math per your input (and all other inputs that apply form the environment and other players), check modifiers, rolls the die etc.  THOUSANDS of times a second... PER PLAYER.

EVERY time the input is received from all sources, in their own time, the calculations happen.  Every time someone left clicks, the calculations and modifiers, and die are cast the results are tallied, and you receive the information represented by pixels that are arranged to appear in the form of a tank on your screen.

Hit roll? Y Damage Roll? Y Saving throw? N Damage done? Y Damage Mitigated? N Module damage? Y Module damaged? Y Which module? Fire % chance of fire? Y Saving throw? N Damage mitigated? N.  You're on fire.

This is why there are no true "Hacks" in the game.  All calculations are done on the server.  If you DID or could truly "Hack" the game, what ever "hack" you created would apply to ALL of parts of the game that you hacked.  The many cheats that are available (and being used) are all one the CHEATERS computer.

It IS possible that the player who "caused" the fire from a turret shot was using a mod that allowed his computer to send distorted information TO the server (Aimbots..)(or display information FROM the server that is required for the calculations, but not normally see by, or intended to be available to the user(Lasers)).

Try and not be discouraged when stuff like this happens.  You can't control what others do, and the computer isn't against you.  Play the GAME for fun.

This is also what causes lag and packet loss.  When the information doesn't send and receive correctly, or in time, the calculations slow down.

btw... Massive Multiplayer Online Gaming is the science that will make things like flying cars a reality one day.  It can already happen with drone delivery systems.

Simple answer:  The gunner was smoking in the tank again (something we told him not to do numerous times).  When the shell hit, it scared him and he dropped his cigarette into the spilled diesel on the deck.....fire started.
