I've always found them weak and easy to pen, never understood the hype around this tank tbh.

Matilda is one of those tanks that is really good when it is top tier.  And mostly worthless any other time.

When top tier it bounces plenty of shots from the lower tiers, and spits damage fast with its gun.  When mid or bottom tier it i just a really slow target that can't maneuver and will get chewed up by any Tier V or VI tank player with a brain.

God point : bounces.

Bad point : turtle legs, be smahed by light tanks in backs.

I enjoy T14, many bounces.

The Matilda is definitely hampered in higher tier games but can do ok in a support/sniper mode.

That aside, as for at tier 4 etc, it did actually have that much armour.  Apparently everyone was shooting it in the front which was dumb.

The OP might want to pack more HE and throw those at the Matilda instead.  The tank certainly does not fare well against tanks with 105mm howitzers like the Hetzer, M4, or Pz IV H.

OP might want to actually aim.  Matilda is tough but still has plenty of squishy spots.....

Fun fact;

Historically, the Char B1 Bis has something well over 90mm of armour penetration, but in true Wargaming tradition, they [edited] it.

The B1 and S35 should be a lot more deadly than they are.

Matilda (at tier) is a better heavy than the Type 95 but you should be able to pen it.  Use tanks.gg to find out where to aim.

Use the x5 weekend to get done with the garbage pile type 95.

The top gun unlocked on the t3  doesn't even transfer over.

This is the WG ' buy free xp to skip this bs' theme

Shoot the gun mantlet and you'll pen with anything over 80mm of pen.

The Matilda is OP but what to do about it?  It was OP in real life as the only things the Germans had that could kill it was their arty.

In this game probably all that could be done is to nerf its rate of fire and pen.  As it is it fires so fast it's almost like a machine gun and it can pen anything I have easily.   The French B1 can't even damage it by ramming it.

Matilda is balanced in its low alpha and low speed. Focus down his allies and rid him of allies before he arrives to the flank and you out number Matilda.

And if you can properly peekaboom, Just hide around a corner, peek out and shoot him then hide while reloading. You will be trading about 70 to 100 damage shots with his 50 damage shots and come out on top.

In addition you were using the Type 95 one of the worst Tier 4 tanks there is. So that contributed to how you couldn't pen him with gold.

The Matilda has been subjected to stealth nerfs starting with the accuracy buff introduced by WG a couple of years ago. Just prior to that is was the dominant tank of tier four and could hold its own as a harassing tank against higher tiers. What I mean by "harassing" is most players play the Matilda wrong. It is not a combat tank, it is an field assassin. It is most effective at distance where its needle gun wears down the enemy with constant penetrations. Saying that, getting kills is very hard work with a Matilda, or "Tilly" as she is affectionately called. She can hold her own in combat with her peers, but it outclassed by heaver armoured tanks if you are exchanging fire. That is not ideal for Tilly. She needs to go about the battlefield unnoticed. Her life has been made more difficult by the faster tanks which dominate the game now, and her nemesis, arty!  There was a time her only real enemy was the Hetzer which at the time I always said was her nemesis. But times have changed and unfortunately the Matilda has not been better for it.

It will always be one of my favourite tanks, it is a love thing and I keep her out of sentiment. I think there are better alternatives now depending on your play style.

Have fun.

Guffy.

That would explain why the in-game Char B1 has less armor, less pen and less damage then the same tier French light tank.  I keep thinking to myself, the German Panzer Corps feared this thing?  Against a Matilda, the B1 will lose 99% of the time.

At the start of WW2, the B1 was the most advanced armoured vehicle on the planet. In-game, they struggle to pen a tier 4 Panzer IV.

Matilda is horrendously broken when top tier and dangerous mid tier but against tier 6 it makes a great snack.

the matilda is OP for its gun, not the armor. . .
