Look, if they go with St. LOUIS, or Chicago,  per the map above, most people should have decent ping.

Where ping begins to suck is when playing on one coast on a server on another coast.

OTOH, given the number of people from South America on the NA server, I would not be surprised if they put the 'central' server in Fla or TX, given that's where the pipes come in

Dallas seems to be a pretty good contender to the server location....

... and its Sherlock, stupid.

NA is a cluster of countries, hence it's plural, what I should have said was continents to make myself clearer.

When I said countries I was more specifically relating to distances and time zones and I'm not going to explain this because I seriously don't feel like it. Google it unless you already know it and I'm assuming that you do since you say so.

Edit: Also I'm sorry for calling you stupid and acting like an uncivilized monkey

yes, its actually quite good since electricity in texas is dirt cheap as well. however pairing agreements are not always as easy as the chicago area can provide.

The biggest battles in EVE Online are effectively turn based due to time dilation preventing the servers from exploding though, so super low ping isn't quite as important.  And even in normal play, most things don't require an instant reaction, or can't be done immediately due to targeting times anyway.

But this is WG we're talking about.  It should be a good thing, but they'll find a way to muck it up.

Chicago, Kansas City, and Dallas would all be contenders.

Chicago will probably get the nod.  There are a large number of cross country (east west) trunk lines that go through there.  From Chicago a large majority of the population could be served with pings < 60.

Kansas City would probably give West coast population (Los Angeles in particular) better ping.  But slightly slower for northeast coast areas versus Chicago.

For me (from Tulsa), not much difference switching from Washington DC to Chicago - Maybe 52 versus 55.  (Optimal best conditions, actual is about 10% slower).

Kansas City better  at 45 versus 55.

Dallas 30 (!!) versus 55.  WOOT!  WG I vote Dallas. ;)

The biggest hue and cry will be from the existing 'unicum' population.  An over-weighted percentage of the current 'unicum' population live within a couple hundred miles of Washington DC.  They have had (to now) a permanent technical edge of sub 30 ms ping while the rest of the country lives with ping of 60, 70, or more.  Moving the server to Chicago will make them have to play with a slower 40 or so ping.

Ping has nothing to do with your performance in WoT atleast as long as its not up towards the 500ms , it's the packetloss that is the killer.

I have been playing on East from the start and have no problems with a higher ping compared to the rest of you. So believe what you want , but none of you in the US will drop or rise to/from Unicumhood because of the move. Trust me on this.

By the map on the previous page, it's looks like the best contenders are:

1. Chicago

2. Dallas/Ft. Worth

3. St. Louis

I'd bet my ping rate it'll be Chicago.

American ? Never heard of that language :)

As for merger, OK if it has the ping of East from Europe otherwise they will loose allot of players from Europe that will mean pointless consolidation, it will make some parts of the day empty

Realistically people from EU will suffer and people from what Australia and SEA will suffer but for players from NA - they should have same Ping to both right ? So general decrease in population

Not a problem , if it is too expensive but it has to come with account transfer option if you can't play the server you started on because they close it

'non sequitur' is American.

We stole it from the Ronams, which makes it ours.

Dem Ronams done pissed off the Germans, Gauls and Celts. Den later dey all whooped up on the Ronams and took a buncha stuff back home.  Some of the stuff was werds.

Then the Angles and Saxons and Normans all ended up in England because of it being a pretty cool place.  But then folks found out that having a king sucks, so they all came over to to America where we said we don't need no durn king anyhoo.

And that's how come Non Sequitur is American.

Oh, and Zed?  It's a dialect.  Them English Nancy's call all kindsa stuff by weird words.

I mean what kinda idjit puts their groceries inna boot?!?

Side note: what's with all of the people wanting to merge with the EU server?

IMO, that would be horribad. We have a bad enough language issue here NA server with 4 major languages bandied around: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French (but not soo much French).

We merged with the EU server, it would be worse than the Tower of Babel.

I gotta be honest, when I see players speaking another language in chat, I ignore them. There no help to me or I to them if we don't speak a common tongue. I speak very little espanol, and what I know would be of no help in WoT ("dos cervezas n dos tequilas, por favor?" lets face it: just as Latin was the lingua franca during the Roman Empire, English is the current lingua franca of international business, education, science, technology, diplomacy, entertainment, radio, seafaring, and aviation.

And some people want to merge with the EU server?:sceptic:

There are too many variables - e.g. where is the server being housed, what are the SLA with the hosting provider in terms of server availability, bandwidth for connections, etc., what is the connection type and speed to that hosting provider, etc. -  to start making predictions on how a central server will affect the NA Community.

All of this chatter is just hearsay and only serves to have certain individuals get their knickers into a twist so tight that will cut off the circulation ...

I read it wrong. At first i thought they are giving Central America their own server so we dont have to suffer braZilians and argentinians (thats right i refuse to capitalize names of those countries)

Someone in a different thread brought up the South American player base.  I don't know what percent these players represent out of the total of NA server players.

If it is significant that might make Dallas a more interesting location.

I still think Chicago has the edge, but I'm rooting for Dallas.

Just imagine the typical 'murican who has a brain meltdown when he sees a few words in spanish / portuguese playing in the EU server with a dozen languages.

if you think my answer is stupid then you need to go do your research and learn why servers are put in different countries, it would take too long to explain here and it's already out there for you on the internet with a simple google search

Canadian players connect to US West/East servers don't they? They are different countries....right? Dont South American players also connect to US West/East?
