Play any other line if you want your shells to pen or the all to common critical hit. The American line is so messed up with this game. I bounced 4 shots off an O-I this morning with my M12 American Arty. That's real common. I played my T32 Heavy and bounce the rear off russian an french light tanks this morning. WTH? That's common. Aim full, make sure it's green and just bounce. Should be expected I guess. American line of tanks is not worth the time. My opinion for the new comers.

Maybe you just arent doing well in American Tanks.. You maybe do well in more tabks. But telling Newcomers to not play a line/whole country just because you get bad RNG; Is not the best thing to do.

It is their decision if they wanna play USA Tanks. They can take your "Suggestion" into consideration.

The US tech tree is the one I've spent the most time in this game playing, simply because the tanks are so comfortable to play, while still being very competitive. RNG is only a problem if you're always in poor positions, meaning you take fewer shots to begin with, so any impact that RNG has on each individual shot flows directly into your overall performance.

Throwing a Bull$#it Flag on the play.

The M12 is a Tier 7 Arty.  As such it ONLY gets HE rounds, which don't "bounce" off anything.  HE explodes on impact.  Even if you fail to penetrate, you get stun and splash damage.

If you aren't getting any stun or splash, you missed by a WIDE margin

There's a Flag on the Play

You are correct, they got stunned, with the "ping" sound of a bounce.

I agree, it's my opinion about what I'm seeing.

Must be hard to aim while all those shells are bouncing off your invulnerable turret while you are smartly hull down right?

well, depends on which gun you are using. The FAKE  90mm on the Hellcat gets 160 pen on standard rounds. The 90mm on the Jackson is a real setup, that's how they were produced. It's the same story in the Jackson. T29? Can't pen with the 105, wth? Have you ever played it with that gun?

HE shells can be absorbed when they hit strong enough armor. It can be frustrating, but it is part of the game mechanics for all tanks. RNG can give odd bounces. I once flanked an American T30 while driving my Soviet T-54 and my AP shell managed to bounce off of the rear "armor" on the T30. I don't know how exactly it is possible, but I suspect I got a bad pen role and there was barely just enough angling since the T30 was on some rocks...  And those French Lights do have odd angles. When grinding the AMX 13 75 a long time ago, I bounced two consecutive Wf E100 shots. And the Wf E100 had way better pen than the T32. It was just that I was moving and so it didn't hit square and I was lucky.

But all in all, American tanks are relatively "comfortable". In Arty this means relatively large fields of fire and splash. In real tanks this means usually good gun constraints and gun handling. Your T32 can get the gun onto tanks in positions that the IS-3 can only dream of. Of course, there are trade offs. The better players take advantage of these trade offs by using positions where their tank can do best with these trade offs.

I think you've just been hosed. I played a lot of games last night and was magically hosed. One game in my KV-3: 19 shots, 16 hits, 0 pens for 0 damage.

All you can can do is hit battle again. Sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug.

I have to disagree OP. The American tree has some of the best vehicles in the game and in my opinion are the most fun to play. It is well known one of the biggest disadvantages with American vehicles is usually armour, or tin foil as I call it, but many make up for it with good speed and manoeuvrability. It is true that WG have nerfed some vehicles so that they are now a shadow of their former glory,  for example, the reverse on the Hellcat is awful. But, for all that, I have not usually come across anyone criticizing the American guns! On the whole they are good and very effective against the enemy if you can stay alive long enough!

I've never had any problems with the M12. It can be tricky to get good hits at times, but when it does they result is usually a good one. You can still rack up good XP even "post nerf." The downside has always been the long reload. Probably the Op would be better playing short range arty rather than American long range. I prefer short range arty as you feel you are more "in the game."

Come on OP the Sherman tanks are stuff of legend!

It is one of the nations trees of choice for me, there will always be American vehicles in my garage.

Have fun, playing American tanks!

Guffy.

OK, you're using the T32. I has horrible standard pen and is the worst in the line in that regard (IMHO anyway). It is only redeemed by it's God-like 2nd turret.
