Hello resident YouTubers, I've recently had an interest in recording and editing some videos related to World of Tanks, and I was hoping those of you who do so regularly might be willing to share some knowledge with me.

I'm looking for advice on some decent free capture software and some free or at least inexpensive editing software.  What do you guys use? If it's not cheap, can you recommend something that is or at least explain what you get that's worth the price?

* WG actually removed the need for one of the videos I wanted to make, ie how to count up TR points.. Heh.  Still, I'm sure other things will come up.

*willing to spend at least some on good video editing software as I have other uses for it besides WoT, such as family home videos and such.

Thanks!

OBS is the best screen recorder you can find, everyone here will tell you that.

As for editing software, I haven't looked at any for several years and I can't recommend anything that may not be outdated.

Raptr to capture video from replay and !SkySoft to edit. I have never used OBS, but understand it is widely used and very popular.

Use Bandicam to capture and PowerDirector to edit. Both work fine.

I use Mirillis Action for recording, it makes it really easy to record without having to mess around with a lot of settings. I think I paid 15$ for it during a Christmas sale. +Customer support is really good. For editing I use Sony Vegas, takes a bit of getting used to but it gets really easy once you get used to it. The only down side is the render times, it can take nearly days if your CPU isnt up to standards. For me, a 5 minute clip can take around 10 hours, which is why I never seem to upload often, at least not videos that are heavily edited. -SV is really expensive and I would recommend getting it from a "free" source *wink, wink*

OBS is great for both streaming and recording...

if you have a newer nvidia GPU using shadowplay is a very simple way to record...

there are TONS of good video editing programs... adobe premiere and Sony vegas being the main ones for windows and Adobe and FCPX being the favs on mac...

but there are plenty of usable free options... for quick easy learning but fairly limited function windows movie maker can do the trick...

Thanks all for the advice so far.  I'd actually just started to play around some with OBS, so I'll probably stick with it and see how well I can get it to work.

The PowerDirector looks interesting, but $60ish is more than I'd planned to spend at this point.  I'll keep it in mind if my budget increases later, though. I may give Windows Movie Maker another try.

Thanks again.

Get OBS studio, that's the new version.  I use Power Director to edit.  I paid for it which I recommend.  The free stuff is either very limited in functionality or has water marks.  Clever people may be able to get around that but I can't.

530 is only ~7 generations out of date. the card numbers below x5x arent really intended for gaming anyway. find a cheap 1050Ti and its a world of improvement.

Bandicam to record.  Free version gives up to 10 min video which is good for most every game.

I dont edit, too f*cking lazy.
