Yup, also from South Africa here. I get around 280-320ms ping on NA East. I also didn't know there was an EU option when I signed up. In fact, when you log in from SA, they AUTOMATICALLY recommend using the NA server. Which is mental, because the ping is higher and the time zone is totally off. Maybe it was done to bolster the NA server population?

Having Ranked battles start from 1am and close at 6am, and tournaments happen around 2am on weeknights also isn't all that great...

I started an EU account just to see what it would be like and my ping time there is about 180ms. That is a HUGE improvement on 300 plus and makes the game so much more enjoyable.

I will be on the first boat to Europe!

It would be nice if we can apply for the clan to be transferred, as we are all South Africans

Hi

I agree we have the same problem from South Africa.  When I joined a little over a year ago WOT suggested I join the NA server which I did.  On the East coast server we get ping in the region of 250ms, others that went to the European server get pings in the region of 180ms from South Africa.  Moving the server more West in NA will drop our ping even further and may make the game unplayable, so hopefully we can finally switch to the European server now.

The same goes for me. When I joined in 2013, even still today, wot suggested that I should use the NA server. I also would like to relocate to the EU servers not just because of the bad ping of 250 to 400 and the lag spikes because our data packets are being intercepted by some sort of Atlantic pirate called DISTANCE, but also because when we here in RSA play the rest or the majority of the NA server's players are still at work or asleep. :honoring:

Looks like we have quite a large South African contingent on the NA server!

they merge servers for them not for us ( players ) they will save alot of money ( less staff to take care,1 server only and  1 office to run .etc ... )  . but for me if the server run better i'm ok with it but if not !!!!

I have not logged in, in a while however this news of finally having a server transfer back to EU sparks my interest. I originally played with some NA players and joined their clan and landed on the NA server on first installation as I worked anti social hours so quite often was on American time anyway. If it can be done, anyone fancy setting up a clan full of people who have transferred ?.

World of Tanks North America Server Merge

Where is the new server located?

Chicago.

Has the server merge started and is any current lag due to this change over?

No, the merge will start early Wednesday, August 16. Any current issues are not due to the server change over.

When will the server merge occur?

Servers will go down on 8/16/2017 at 2:00am PT and are planned to go live at 3:15am PT 8/16/2017.

Will I need to do anything special to update my client to connect with the new server?

No, there will be a small patch to redirect your client to the correct server but you don’t need to do anything special. Just open the launcher and patch like normal.

Why are we doing this merge, what is the benefit for players?

The goal for merging our servers into the new NA Central location is to improve our matchmaking times for all players by having them join a single queue. This also will help to combine all eligible players for special modes like Ranked Battles, Clan activities, and the upcoming Grand Battles (30v30), 9.20 Update, which includes huge balance changes, great new modes, and a new tank line, and more.

Will this specifically fix the server lag? If not, when is the server lag fix?

The current plan is to finish the server merge, and focus on stabilizing the regional connections that are going to be impacted by this shift in location. Our server operations team is working daily to optimize our network connections, and improve routing by working with our partners such as Level3, Telia ( what a joke that isp is)and Comcast. Engineers will be monitoring performance for the entire region, including North and South America. Server lag has been an ongoing issue we will work to resolve as we focus on NA Central stability. There is no ETA for this to be 100% fixed, but we’re committed to improving the situation for users who have lag and freezing issues.

When will the server lag get better?

We will post frequent updates in this thread. For the next week we will post daily, and any time emergencies or big changes arise. To help us debug issues on an personal level, you can click the survey link below (that will be live once the merge) for complete instructions on how to send us logs and information about your situation. The more info we can gather, the faster we can stabilize the server! We will keep you posted here each week with a report from our development team

about progress. Check back here to read updates, and ask questions in our dedicated forum.

Why is my ping worse?

When we move the server, the networking connections across NA will be updated. At first you may see higher ping inside the game client.  But our priority is optimizing the connections and minimizing any packet loss. Players may see higher ping values in-game, but if there is a stable connection, your gameplay experience should not be degraded. We know that merge issues won’t resolve overnight, but we’re committed to monitoring and optimizing for as long as it takes. Stay tuned for updates in this section, and specifically this thread.

How will this affect LATAM players?

For any player, there is the potential to have a slower connection based on their distance and routing to our servers. We will be optimizing our connections to all locations, and it’s very important to provide a playable experience to players on the NA server. The best thing any player can do is fill out our survey that will be available after the server merge if they are having difficulty with connection or gameplay quality. This includes tankers from Latin America!

Can I transfer servers if my ping gets worse?

We are working on a customer support plan to allow users to transfer servers. More information to follow shortly on this topic, and we will update this thread with links and details this week.

Would love to transfer to the ASIA server as I am now back living in Australia... it sucks not being able play in any clan matches or get to experience the entire game.

Was living in the EU when I started playing and there was no ASIA server... I missed the transfers to the ASIA server when they had them, now I hope there is an option to transfer again..

I do have a akward question here... i do have a unused EU account to the same email as the NA account. Same nick though (i was thinking about switching a long time ago, but never came around to it)
Will this be a problem in any sort?

As a colegue tanker said, moving servers westwards will cause problems, i live in Serbia and i play with 2 of my friends, ping is always 160 and up, i watned us to be transfered to the EU server but WG said that they could not do it. Now, scince the servers have merged together my ping is 200 and up, That is the reason why i am asking to get transfered. I dont unerstand why it is not possible to transfer, at least offer players one chance to transfer and thats it, if the servers stay merged i have no doughts that many players who dont live in America will have to stop playing.

I asked WG support this exact question earlier today. The response? We are not allowing transfers to other servers. Then they clarified that I musn't misunderstand a "MERGER" with a "TRANSFER" like I'm some kind of idiot.

I responded by pasting in the FAQ section from the article and they said there are no plans to make it happen, but "watch the news portal for any developments".

I wouldn't send any tickets regarding transfers. Any information from WG regarding this topic will be posted on the website and forums. They have concretely said they will be able to offer server transfer plans, so I have high hopes.

Idk man, it's WG.. Been awhile since I stopped putting my hopes up on them..

BUT, if they do let us transfer server for once without any fine prints that'd definitely be appreciated.

Hi,

Im also a South African that has been playing for 5 years and would appreciate the opportunity to move my account to the EU server where I will get lower ping.

It would be the right thing to do as we have been loyal customers for a long time and the least WG could do.

Yup,  I'm from Eastern Europe and also got a problems with ping + timezone difference (can't play on global map etc).

So I want to transfer to Europe also. Got some players (+5 five more) with me.

Same issue:

Same Account Name on Two Servers

Old account on SEA server; couldn't join in any reindeer games IN ENGLISH.  And if you think pubbies is a romper room, try Asian pubbies.  Holy cow.  No replay uploads, no sending in games to Quicky or Jingles (not back in the day, not from SEA), so I rolled a NEW account on NA, new download etc.  Account name is THE SAME, "Saripul".
So WARGAMING, I request some consideration be made for possible name collisions if we are forced to move to more local servers.  I understand that you have to do what you have to do, and if I have to go to SEA, fine.  I won;t like it, but fine.  But I would like to MERGE those accounts rather than have them collide in an unmanaged fashion.

I've sent a ticket and this is the response:

Account Support
Hi there.

I red this on WoT page: "Our immediate focus is on our players who are closer to a regional server they are currently not using. For example, players in Australia or New Zealand may want to transfer to the APAC server; or players who live in EU countries might want to join the much closer EU server."

So, it is possible to transfer my actual NA account to EU server?

Thank you,

Greetings Faster_Blaster,

Thank you for contacting Wargaming support.

We appreciate your time to address this inquiry to us. We understand that your account transfer to different server.

Regrettably, we are not currently able to transfer player accounts to different servers. It is a technical limitation that keeps us from being able to complete transfers.

You are welcome to create accounts on other servers using the same email address.

We don't know when a server transfer option will be available again, but if it is, it will be announced on our News page here: http://worldoftanks.com/en/news/

Again thank you for contacting Wargaming support.

At heart, we are gamers supporting gamers, and we will do everything possible to resolve every issue that we can.

We do hope you will continue to enjoy playing Wargaming, see you out on the battlefield.

Seems to be a little to early for the server transfer, we should wait some time.

Will accounts be transferred or duplicated to another server?

We will share more information soon on our transfer programs, but all transfers will be one-way to the destination and no account duplication. Your entire account will be moved as part of the transfer and this is a one way ticket. You may only return to North American servers through starting an entirely new account.
Right now our focus is on our players who are closer to a regional server that they are currently not playing on.  For example players in Australia or New Zealand, they may want to transfer to the APAC server. Or players who live in EU countries, they might want to join the much closer EU server.

This technically now counts as a contract. Meaning they now have to begin looking at this and dealing with it.

Well I certainly hope so. I've discovered that not only is my ping time to the EU server a massive 40% better, and the tournaments, ranked battles etc not absurd hours of the night/early morning, but THE PREMIUM STORE IS CHEAPER. When converted to my local currency anyway. For example, a Lowe on the NA premium shop costs R726 (South African Rand), but on the EU store it is R683.

And yet WG SPLASH PAGE STILL AUTOMATICALLY POINTS SOUTH AFRICANS TO THE NA SERVER AS THE BETTER OPTION FOR THEM!

If I visit the EU site in my web browser I get a pop up message saying I should switch to the WOT US website.

People keep missing the point that transferring to Europe means no clan wars, no ranked battles, etc. due to time zone differences (let alone the higher ping).
