Later on WG came up with the great idea to add up to tier 8 arties , but they still saw tier 10s so it was still OK.

Then came the greatest ideas of them all and they added tier 10 arty , and the real clickening begun, now tier 10 arties saw tier 8 tanks and one-shot them like nothing. And this was the beginning of the pure arty hatred we see today.

Tier 8 arty was the same as tier 10 arty.  The T92 used to be the us T8 SPG, the 261 was the RU T8 SPG, etc.  WG didn't make the existing arty more powerful when they extended the lines to tier 10, they just removed the "scout MM"  that it had precioiusly.

Fixed that for you. Fiery salient is a godawful map that should have been removed long ago.

I can't say I disagree, most times I get the map in a heavy I just drown.

It is necessary whether people like it or not. It would become a slugfest of 30 Maus tanks shooting gold at each other.

Somebody needs to make a training room and try that, it has a certain allure.

That punishes arty players with top tier SPG's.

Besides, it'll set Thorny off on another of his "I DEMAND COMPENSATION!!!!" tirades.  Not worth the read.

Yeah, that'd do it. :arta:

Do love your misrepresentation of other people's positions, though, when it suits you. I believe I said, "How could WG fairly compensate people for the removal of the class?" I don't believe they could. That's what I have said. Not that I personally am demanding it. Thanks though, good to see that Passive-Aggressive thing you got going on is still available to you.

For a guy that brags about taking an oath, you sure do demonstrate a problem with personal integrity and honor. Guess it's ok to take a break from it on the internet, huh? People on the internet aren't real, after all.

I'm still pretty new (6 months) so from my perspective, arty has always been part of the game.  It used to drive me bonkers when I started so I bought a little tier III SU-26 to fool around with so I could better understand how they work.

Anyway, so many people complain about arty in the Forums I'm now wondering when it was introduced and why?  If the game was fine without it, why did WG/WoT put it in?

Since your new, go play and don't worry about arty.

Arty has always been the release game.

teams camped so they put arty in to stop it. they have some videos from the developers on the WOT site that explain the development of the game and why they added certain things.

FYI, WOT has stated that they never said " that if this adjustment didn't fix arty they would remove it " it popped up on a tank blog.

Actually, the stun mechanic being a last ditch effort was mentioned by Slava Makarov at a developer's conference.

This was an answer in response to what if the stun mechanics fail:

SM: "I'm afraid that then we will have to remove the art(y) from the game entirely. Of course, we did not want to "kill" the class - we already had many artillery re-balances. One - a very long time ago, the other - in the patch 0.8.6, but it did not help. We have come to the point that it is impossible to re-balance the artillery as such simply by balancing the TTX, damage, penetration, etc."

If it's been here since the beginning, what evidence was there that people would be camping?

The game has changed considerably since release. Mid tiers used to fight against tier X, maps had more foliage and irregular terrain, more tanks are available, arty capped at tier 8, mediums and tank destroyers capped at tier 9, scouts at tier 5, etc. It wasn't necessarily just an issue of camping and often an issue of dealing with heavily armored tanks and camouflaged enemies that could one-shot half their opponents multiple tiers lower. While tanks can still take advantage of those strengths, the options to deal with them are greatly increased.

Arty has been a contentious subject for the life of the game and has received multiple changes in an effort to balance indirect fire.

Thanks for the laugh Thorny.

When nothing else works, play the honor card.  Not even a good try.

You still think arty players would require compensation for not losing anything?  But then you want to pose a question about honor?  Even EHonor?  That smacks of a very modern societal urge for handouts.

My position hasn't changed.  Your responses are entertaining, please keep them up Thorny.  Do have a god day.

Arty has been in since Beta days....

And then it was fine, the Hummel and the Su-14 was the end tier arties and they saw tier 10 MM , as tier 6 arty.

So they could focus a tier 10 heavy and chip away on him all game and it wouldn't do much unless they got a lucky pen on a weakspot.

And they where great to dig out hulldown targets that was a pain in digging out with regular tanks.

Later on WG came up with the great idea to add up to tier 8 arties , but they still saw tier 10s so it was still OK.

This is how it went down.

YOU don't see it as a loss. Arty players would, again, that's the entire issue; it doesn't matter to YOU, so YOU don't see it as a problem. That's called "empathy". You should try it. Girls dig it.

And yeah. Sorry. You're passive aggressive, you distort what others' say for your own benefit,  then you attempt to laugh off points you can't address with insults. No honor there. None.

And I don't make a distinction between the internet and real life when it comes to treating people with respect. Apparently, you do. Says volumes.

There is nothing misleading by that statement. Nothing was implied as to how powerful arty was or is, only that the game has changed. Arty also had its battle tier decreased in patch 7.1, well over a year before 8.6 went live.

Tier 5 scouts were quite effective in the old game. It was quite a challenge to stop a dedicated and competent T-50/2 player from getting behind enemy lines and wreaking havoc. By saying scouts were capped at tier 5 doesn't imply they weren't capable with the older maps and game mechanics.

Arty is not a problem, I tank about 10% of my damage from arty. Premium ammo is what they should have never put in the game and should remove. There is no defense against it.
