Nursing a 2003 Mustang Mach 1.Afraid of all the new cars as they can be very expensive once the warranty runs out.The mustang is bad enough but I love it and use 30 mpg on the freeway as an excuse to keep it but really ,it too is a money pit that I like spending money on it.Just put some 10.5 rims on the rear with 9's on front and plan on ditching the cats for a h pipe and a tune.

Cars are a horrible investment: they suck money out of you from the moment you buy them to the moment you get rid of them.  It's not just the cost of the car; it's the insurance, the maintenance, etc.  If people were sensible, they would think of cars the same way they think of insurance: yes, you need it, but you should really get the minimum to satisfy those needs.

Really depends upon what your buying Matt.  Some cars are investments you can enjoy while they appreciate in value.  Granted, not your typical daily driver.  But, if you know what your looking at, you can put a few bucks in pocket when it comes to sell.

Basic truck with extra cab, not quad cab. Best vehicle. Does what ever you need and more.

Dodge, Ford, Chevy, or Toyota pick trucks,... all man vehicles. With or without a lift kit. Or, there's this thing:

Real men drive trucks. Ferraris are for spoilt rich kids who will never work a day in their lives.

Jealousy is ugly.  Stop it.

Most Jeeps, like most trucks, never leave the pavement.  They are bought for the image.  Nothing wrong with that.

And put a guy in a family that needs a car, you'll see those Audi, Ferrari, Crapvette and whatever else votes disappear.

The women in this poll apparently voted realistically, the men apparently idealistically.

I'm pretty sure that everything in this thread (not discounting my post) is pointless.

Have a good one.

The poll is about "want" not need.  Women are less aggressive across the board and don't look at driving as a sport.

Most of those high-end cars I really don't want to own; I just want to borrow them for a week or so! My daily driver is a Focus ST and it's hard to argue that you really need any more car.

We don't "need" any more than basic transportation...or more than 2 sets of clothes...or a tenement flat...or spices or vacations or movies or games.  I have a relatively short commute to work each day of about 25 minutes.  I made it in a used Camry for 7 years and it sucked.  I made it in a 250hp Infiniti for the next 7 years and it was pleasant.  I've made it in a 475 hp Jaguar for the last 3 years and it KICKS [edited]!  I stand on it at every stop sign and light and just grin my [edited]off going to work.

Wife's goal car right now (until she can afford a McLaren, which won't be happening any time soon) is a Maserati GT convertible. Which, in fairness, will be a while as well. I'm gunning for an Audi S6 as something which is tantalisingly withing reach, if I'm willing to sacrifice a few other goals.

That said, for weekend fun, we're kicking around something like a 69 Chevelle or 71 Charger. Not sure quite how we'll manage it, not least, we don't have room for the thing, let alone the time to actually complete a project car, but we do like the idea and have been keeping an eye out for a good buy.

Senior partner in my firm has the Audi S8.  It will take your eyeballs out of round.  The S7 and S6 are fantastic cars and I drool every time one goes by, but WOW is Audi proud of them.  You can get a comparable M or AMG and have enough for a medium sized boat left over.

MINI Coopers get a bad rap.  They're phenomenally sporty cars, like a go-kart on steroids, and have won every major rally in the world.  I'd love to own one.

+1 for this.  I own one.  It is a lot of fun.

You'll know this truck I am sure:
I want the Oshkosh 7 ton fifth wheel with the hydraulic trailer. 2WD, 4WD, and 6WD and is great for off-roading and extreme weather conditions.

I want a Oshkosh 7 ton flatbed. This truck is amazing for hauling anything. Has 2WD, 4WD and even 6WD and comes standard with a Fan Ford Switch.

With some slight adjustments the passengers seat, which normally comes a padded tool bench, can be swapped out for an air ride seat like the driver has.

For my classic car I want an HMMWV from the Vietnam era. Like the ones I drove while stationed in Kuwait. They were old but they ran great.

I must be getting boring in my olde age. I'm perfectly fine with my v6 ranger and civic hatchback.

Cages suck.  I put more miles on my Ducatis and Harleys than I do on my old Range Rover.

Go with the 70 Chevelle.  Much better than the others and the absolute last year before smog control began.

LoL hardly, have a family with only 1 child. wife used to drive a SRT-8 charger.  then we got civic hybrid... great car for mileage terrible car  for fun factor SOLD in a year.... settled with a jackson supercharged b18 engine swap in a civic Si. thats the family fun car.   i drive a 01 Z06,    400HP and good for 32MPG.  Both cars have stereo systems with 1000+ watts and subs.  oh yeah  and we have a SUV for winter/rain.  hauling etc.

a car is one of the most expensive items you will own. why on gods earth would you want to own a boring vehicle that only transports you from a-b. even worse if you have to drive to work/school every day, make that 10-30 minutes enjoyable.

a High end car you do your own maintenance on is very affordable for anyone. i paid half of retail on the Z06 with 50k miles.   and besides tires/brakes.  spent maybe $600 on repairs (parts) over 12 years of ownership.  so for less than $2000 a year i got to crush 99% of the cars on the road and rip up the track/back roads. all the while taking my kid to school everyday...and picking up grocery's.
