Was just thinking about this and was curious as to how you do things.  I know some of you out there are tank collectors whom love to have piles and piles of vehicles in your garage.  I don't know how you do it honestly... as its hard enough for me to be happy with my crews when I move them up every time... much less keeping a crew in lots of tanks.  I personally like to keep just a Very few tanks in each tier.  I always have a few I am lvling, but mostly I keep a single or 2ish keepers in each tier for platoon use when people are lvling up and ask for my help.  Here is a listing of the tanks I tend to use

Tier 2 - piles of free prems they constantly give me, I enjoyed the T1E6 last time I needed it.

Tier 3 - free prems they constantly give me, thought I do have a no skill crew in a pz2 G that I use to test my modpack when they put in a new client version.

Tier 4 Stug 3 B with the 105 is good fun.  I realized recently that I had no tier 4 keeper and tried out the Stug and the SU76B(i think that is the name) and found the Stug superior.

Tier 5 Pz 4 H with the 105 = 3 marks, crazy winrate, good fun.  Most tier 5 tanks cannot carry when the team is terrible, you can take on multiple tanks and win with the Pz4H

Tier 6 had always been Bromwell (3 mark) but they just gave me the T34-85M... and it is Dramatically superior to the Crom platform... I just finished using it to update a crew I am using in the 140... so that one.

Tier 7 Had always used Comet, but with the new scout MM the T71 is one of the best tanks in the game tier per tier.. just used it to finish the 2ndary missions on every single Light tank mission in the game. Got 3 marks on both of those tanks (comet and T71), and they are wonderful fun.  I have also really enjoyed the T28HTC and keep a crew in it for special occasions.  People that aren't familiar with the tank will never pen it, lol.

Tier 8 T69 w 3 marks, though I also Love my new Jpanther 2 and strangely enough, a T25 Pilot with cola is Great fun and quite profitable.  Its a quick good hull down tank with very nice aim time.

Tier 9 I prefer my T54E1 (3 marks, Jesus that thing carries) though I tend to also take out the T55A to show off... I think I might re-buy the T54 now though, as it should be dramatically OP when I am helping people grind (getting lots of wins makes life easier when you are lvling new tanks, obviously).  Also, I just re-bought the 13-90 to lvl the 13-105.  It is a Great tank, but I am having trouble winning.

Tier 10 I tend to play my Obj 260 to show off... I like mobile tanks and this mobile tank also has a great gun and functional armor.  I have been using IS7 a bit lately also, though any are functional at this tier given the right toon set up.  I used to love the Leopard 1... but its been powercreeped from my perspective.  I love the TVP, have great damage and assisted damage in it, but its cursed and I never get wins.  :\

What are tanks you can't live without?  Do you have tanks that you play when you're having a bad day that aren't terribly popular?  Just bored and curious what the community is up to.

It's all in my signature.

I do not have a single "grinder" at this time.

I keep a lot of tanks at all tiers just in case tournaments ever become viable as a gold source again someday.

Heck I'm a "newcomer" compared to you.

Your service date coincides with the termination of Fighter Ace. Did you fly?

Have kept all free premiums and bought a few and have never sold any. Beyond that I usually went for historic WWII tanks and kept them all once I got to the main destination tank. Kept the EZ8 but not the M4. Kept Comet but not Crom, etc. Some exceptions as I have the SU-85/100 and recently the 152. Keeping all three. A few other things like that as well.

In my book there are a few basic rules for a 'keeper' to follow:

1- Pen must be adequate for dealing with any target you may encounter, code 22 or otherwise.

2- Mobility must be at least enough to RTB and reset a cap in a pinch.

3- View range must be sufficient to hit the 445m spotting cap with a practical loadout.

4- It must posses at least one major 'scare factor' that even higher tiers should be concerned about.

Naa, I was playing a game called Navy Field.  The company that ran it was full of idiots and a massive percentage of the good players from that came started doing the closed beta in WOT.  Damn closed beta codes started spreading like wildfire through the good clans in NF.  Lots of the original hardcore clans in WOT have piles of old NF players.  Relic comes to mind.

Generally, the only tanks I keep are premiums, with the exception of the T71 (planning on keeping this, once I have the BullDog and T69 researched), Obj 416 (going to work on the T-54 grind....eventually), JPanther II (such a great TD), and JTiger (I do not plan on buying the JPE100, though I do have it researched).

As soon as I unlock the next tier, I sell the previous and move on to the next grind.

These would be my keepers:

Tier 1:  None

Tier 2:  None

Tier 3:  Pz. I C, Locust

Tier 4:  Matilda

Tier 5:  Leopard, T-34

Tier 6:  AMX 12 t, Cromwell, KV-2, Cromwell B, Rudy, Strv m/42-57, SU-100Y, Dicker Max

Tier 7:  AMX 13 75, O-Ni, T29, T71, AMX 13 57 GF, VK 45.03

Tier 8:  B-C 12t, LTTB, T-44, T-44-100

Tier 9:  Skoda T 50, T-54, AMX 30

Tier 10:  Jg.Oz. E 100 (the only Tier 10 I own to date)

That said, I keep everything until it's Elite/Ace/1+ Marked.  Even then, if it's Tier 5 and up, I'll still keep it, but just remove Crew/Equipment and set it as a Reserve in case I want to 2 or 3 Mark it some day, or in case I need it for a specific mission.  179 tanks currently in my garage.

The tank that I currently enjoy the most is the Skoda T 50, so for fun/happiness, that's my go to, and as you can see from the above list, I have a particular fondness for autoloaders.

My keepers would be:

Tier 1: Leichtraktor (although I only really keep this for when I'm tooning with a new player. I don't play it otherwise)

Tier 2: Cruiser Mk III (same as above, although this one is pretty fun)

Tier 3: Pz I C (same as above, although again, it is pretty fun)

Tier 4: Luchs and Marder 38t (although I really don't play them anymore)

Tier 5: Pz IV H, T-34, T-50 (really the lowest tier I ever play even semi-regularly anymore)

Tier 6: Type 64, Cromwell, T-34-85 Rudy, T-34-85M

Tier 7: T20, AMX 13 57F, E-25 (used to include the SP I C, before they destroyed it during the light tank change)

Tier 8: T-44, IS-3, Rhm, AMX CDC, STA-2

Tier 9: M46 Patton, AMX 30 (I've loved both the old version and the new one), AMX 13 90, Skoda T50, T-10

Tier 10: M48A1/A5 Patton

Those are the tanks that I keep going back to and playing, again and again.

If I had to pick my absolute keepers, they would be the Type 64, T20, T-44, IS-3, M46 Patton, AMX 30, AMX 13 90, and M48A1/A5 Patton.

Besides Premiums (I am in the never sell a premium school)

Tier 1: Kept the Otsu, but would sell it if I ever need a garage slot....

Tier 2: Kept the Cruiser 3

Tier 3: Kept the Pz 1c

Tier 4: Kept the Matilda, M8A1, T40, Hetzer and Luchs

Tier 5 and up, if I like the tank, or it is useful for organized play, I keep it. I have yet to sell a tier 8 or above - although there are a few that are sitting in my garage without a crew. The Bat-Chat 12 I was given a few patches ago and have never played is looking like a good candidate to break this streak.

196 tanks at the moment - 96 of which are premium vehicles.

Of the 100 or so most are tanks that actually were in production during the war, not too many Korean war era tanks - next to no "modern" tanks.  Haven't got much interest in prototypes either.

Fav's per tier of the ones I have
Tier 2 Cruiser Mk III
Tier 3 Cruiser Mk II and Pz38T
Tier 4 T40, Matilda and M8A1
Tier 5 Flack Bus, Wolverine, T-24 and LEFH
Tire 6 Strv 42/57, Nashorn, Strv 74 and M44
Tier 7 M56 Scorpion, Steyr WT and Leo
Tier 8 Strv 71 and Lorraine 40T
Tier 9 T30
Tier 10 T92 and M48A1

I only keep tanks I like playing (e.g. Skoda T50, T29, AMX 1357, Blackdog) or are currently grinding through.  Any tank that I haven't played in, say, the past 3 to 6 months, no matter how much of a "keeper tank" the general population think it is, gets sold.  I see no point in keeping tanks around that never get played, especially considering that I don't do SH/CW/tournaments.  In fact, I'm pretty much to the point now where I keep very few non-premium tanks below tier 9 because I have plenty of premiums I'd rather play and I hate playing low/mid tiers.

120ish tanks for me and keepers are a pretty basic thing:

  • All tier 10s
  • All premium tanks: bought, gifted, mission earned; doesn't matter
  • M103: because someday, it may be great again
  • M4 Jumbo Sherman
  • M53/M55:  the last previously unplayed SPG for me, as I got the T92 before the 53/55 existed.  Now I see what all the buzz was about.  Even starting it with a brand new crew and its simply amazing and a keeper
  • T-50.  Its not the great T-50-2, but even with a new crew, its been so much fun that I put permanent camo on it, which I only do for keepers.

For regular tech trees.... the Bert and the bishop. Bishop is one of my favorite tanks. Otherwise I keep 2 spg's per tier, and all of the tens.
