I recently have been debating whether I should get the M4A1 Rev because of its Pen and Alpha, although the armor is pretty bad. I'm just looking for a premium that offers me better alpha damage and at the very least some nice penetration values, while also giving me armor that is reliable.

Or is there another premium that will offer me more than the Rev?

It's a Sherman with a good gun, really short on armor and meets T10s,  could be a hard road to hoe.....

Also even prem rds have a hard time to pen higher tier tanks, a big waste of real money, needs a huge buff to be a viable tank. Slow reload and speed is to slow and armor is non existent for T9 or T10.....

I have it and it has had good buffs but the armor is anything but reliable. If you want a slugging match try the T-54 first prototype- it just had a turret armor buff.

I actually like it fairly well...for tier 8 premiums I have (all by winning or grinding, not by buying, btw) T-54 Mod 1, T-44-100, M4 Rev, and T25 Pilot,

I like them in this order:

1st. Pilot - Good speed, decent pen and accuracy, low alpha but decent RoF, good gun depression, troll impenetrable gun mantlet, no armor anywhere else though.

2nd. Rev - good alpha and gun depression, just enough speed. Long reload but this can be mitigated by playing in a way that gives you a safe place to do your reloading. Good accuracy once aimed. Don't get shot, or outflanked.

3rd. 44-100 - has the mobility that the Mod 1 lacks, but has no particularly reliable armor because of it. Also, no gun depression and bad accuracy, and low alpha and penetration; same gun as the Mod 1. Mobility is superior to armor, however, particularly when lacking gun depression, so this one's more fun to drive and gets better stats.

4th. Mod 1 - The only one of the four with substantial armor, but good players manage to pen it easily anyway, even frontally when hull down. Severely short on alpha, pen, gun depression, accuracy, and mobility, and mobility is king.

Does that include the Panther 88 and current Kanonenjagdpanzer?

What would you recommend? I'm looking for something that has better alpha than 240 standard

I like my Kanonenjagdpanzer, but I'm looking forward to it receiving the 105mm, I wish that they would buff its armor to the historical 50mm on the front to make it survive more on the battlefield

Let me see...  What Tier 8 Premium Medium tanks do I have?

USSR

T-44-100

T-54 mod. 1

STG Guard

USA

T25 Pilot No. 1

M46 Patton KR

T26E4 Super Pershing

CHINA

T-34-3

59-Patton

UK

FV4202

GERMANY

Panther mit 8,8cm L/71

Panzer 58 Mutz

Schwarzpanzer 58

FRANCE

AMX Chasseur de chars

Lorraine 40 t

M4A1 Revalorisé

JAPAN

STA-2

SWEDEN

Primo Victoria

Crap...  It would have been better to just list the premiums I don't have...  (Um, Type 59? Those reward tanks?  Hell, I dunno).

Anyhoo, on to the question.  The new STG is nice, but more expensive.  The Lorraine 40 t would do just about as well, if not better, but the Revalorisé is a better trainer I think.  Super Pershing is a great all-around beastie, except for speed.  The STA-2 has an amazing gun, great speed, but little to no armor...  The Primo has no real use since it has no effective training purposes...  I like it though, and it'll be nice when the British tanks get their turret buff.

I would watch the STG Guard for a bit and then see if you could get it (provided you don't already have another Russian premium medium).

Yes - there are other Premiums that could offer good alpha and pen.

However I recommend that you broaden your request - e.g. Prefer a RUS/USA/FRA/SWE vehicle as this line has the crew I want to train/earn credits with.

This will help to narrow down the field for you by the Community.

Once the field is narrowed I recommend that you then look at  the review videos for those vehicles from a Community Contributor/World of Tanks player to help you decide.

Off the original topic ...

Does the STG Guard come with camo already applied to the vehicle?

Yes and no, depending which one you buy in the premium store.

The lowe fits your criteria. Decent alpha damage along with great penetration and very usable armour. It's still slow but able to keep up with the other heavy tanks.

The Rev is too soft & slow, I would go with the Lowe for more armor and it has a nice gun.

I would pick the Lorraine 40T over the Rev even on the armor scale because you have a better chance of avoiding shots and redeploying to a safer position. The Rev getting to the bottom of the pile for premium tanks to buy, it is one of those tanks you like seeing on the other team.....

Eh I wouldn't say the rev is a bad tank just not one for those who are new to the game. The gun is good and whilst the sherman hull is paper to anything shooting at it at least it has enough armour to not be an autopen for he and arty. Plus if you know all your hulldown spots its gun depression will let you peek and shoot over ridges and slopes with the best of them. Finally it gets apcr as standard ammo and its hella fast(1400m/s?) making sniping fast tanks a point n shoot affair as it also gets good accuracy with a pimp bia crew and food.

I like it, but, as has been stated, the armor is nonexistent. You have to play it either as a ridge peeker or a mobile TD on the 2nd line. There are better options out there. If you want to stay on the French lines, go with the Lorraine 40 t.

I decided on the Rev because I like the gun on it and I see potential in it. However I'm trying my best in it and I'd like some advice/help, (i.e. crew skills, loadout, battle tactics/ strategy)

Crew skills - BIA, 6th sense, repairs, Deadeye.

Strategy - use it on the 2nd line as more of a mobile TD. It's too slow for a medium even with recent buffs and your armor doesn't exist. Poke out from range or flank.

loadout is pretty standard. Rammer, V stab, Vents/optics

EDIT: Ammo - I run 30/17/4. The APCR standard is pretty good with 200mm pen.
