It's a solid tank for what it does.  It doesn't fit my play style.

It could use a buff so it would fit how I like to play tanks, but it plays fine as it's meant to be played.

Is true that city maps will be a sort of a problem but is our job to improvise in this situation.  Just know what you can do and can't do and do your best. The game will not always give you sniping maps and we know that. Peak a boo tactics, assists, fire support. i say all this but keeping in mind that is not a easy task because of the armor. When in city maps think of it as a cast light tank.

But hey everyone hates one tank at lest. I hate the T54E1 and I do crapin it.

Yeah, I'd pretty much just fly around the map looking for any area or intersection where there was no red. Too many times I'd run it like an undercover scout only to round the bend and see a pair of French auto loader lights licking their lips with a big bone on staring right at my UDES. As much as it sounds like I'm sort of deriding this tank I really actually enjoyed it. My win rate was below 50 but I was near a 2 MOE when I sold it. I just couldn't carry in it for beans. Many days I could rake in obscene amounts of damage, others I'd get off 2 shots before being spotted and dead before getting out of sniper mode.

I would give it and the s1 a slight buff to traverse in siege mode.  Can’t speak for the other 2 s-tanks.

This is the only non-premium Tier VIII I not only kept but invested a good crew in.  My favorite tank in the game almost.

Maybe if you have a crew that is a bag of butt you will be getting spotted all the time but with a camouflage crew it is glorious.  You can ride around all over the place and get into any position that's possible in the game, so you can be sniping the whole match.  The S1 is better when stationary but it can't run all over the place like DUDES 03 can.  Also the DUDES 03 can actually joust pretty well and really frustrate heavies even one on one.  I don't think that even an E5 can keep up with a DUDES 03 that runs all around it.

I definitely agree with the early critics in this thread: the UDES has only one role to play well: hidden sniper.  The lack of any armor, the inability to disengage quickly, and the dogfighting ability of the FV304 arty, make it hard to be a solid contributor.  If you want to maximize the tank's ability you definitely should invest in binoculars, camo net, and camo training for the crew.  You should also make sure you turn on the maximum render range circle on your minimal and try to keep your targets near that line to prevent them from ever seeing you.  Most importantly, I found the 90mm gun to simply be inadequate at T8.  While it supposedly has a DPM to match the 10cm top gun, in reality it lacks the penetration to take advantage of the higher fire rate.  Getting the 10 cm gun makes a huge difference, especially in the later stages of a battle, when the ~400 alpha damage is much more likely to one-shot wounded enemies and prevent them from shooting back (because you don't have the HP for any slugging match).

So before you give up on the UDES 03, be sure you have upgraded it to the 10.5 cm cannon; it gives the tank a chance at being competitive at its tier.

if you dont like the UDES you will really hate the 103. The UDES is worlds better.  The 103 has the weaknesses of the UDES without the good points, besides the gun which still only does the same damage....

Yup, I love UDES and Strv103b but 103-0 I didn't at all

UDES need its upper hull armor to be increased to 41mm so it won't get overmatched, it was made with the idea that the overmatch mechanics will be dropped, that didn't happen for a good reason but they didn't adjust the tanks made for it, and it is so simple

UDES is supposed to peak only it's super slopped upper hull, it was advertised like that in the promotional videos, if you mastered the hull angling you are armored, now everything that hits you is going in

That is not a buff, it is bringing the tank to what is supposed to be

With 103b you can see what difference that makes, although it has the same problem, if you face 120mm and lower guns it is better armored than JPZE100 but 121mm and it is nothing, it ain't right that way

OP has a winrate in the UDES a full 7% higher than his overall winrate. Uh huh.

Now that I've played the 103b a good bit.   I think the line could use  a few buffs.

1) Fix the roll rate.  I've never seen a low heavy tank with enhance suspension, fly into the air a flip like the 103b with the slightest change in elevation.

2) Since siege limits you to 5mph, anything that touches you prevents you from moving.  And if they face-hug you, for some reason an E100 will go under you and flip you instead of pushing you.

3) increase the traverse speed in siege.

4) give all but the udes a slight gun elevation buff.

5) fix the backward dift when traversing in siege mode.  The main benefit to the mode is that you don't move, so having to move forward every so often just to stay in place is annoying.

6) give the 103b a 5-10mm armor buff.

The UDES is crap.  yeah the camo is great until you fire then an IS-6 can spot you at max range.  and a couple of tier 6 can make short work of you. Since you have 0 armor and no health.

An IS-6 can't spot you at max range, even after you fire, in the open, when the IS-6 has binocs, recon, situational awareness, and BIA.

In the highly probable scenario that they only have a 3 skill crew and no binocs, then you can comfortably sit outside its view range, spot it yourself, and shoot the [edited]out of it without being spotted.

Some people are saying the tier IX is better. Well no [edited], it should be.

The UDES is not a map situational tank at all tbh.

It has going for it

-Great gun

-Great gun depression
-Extreme mobility

-Extreme Camo

There are plenty of decent tanks with less than that going for them, and it's possible to play any tank with good gun depression but no armor effectively on any map, although having that alone kinda sucks.

Fortunately it doesn't only have that, it's super fast, it's gun is good enough to pen whatever you want however you want, and its camo means that at worst you're probably only getting spotted after shooting.

Any tank like this you can play effectively just by shooting someone who's not looking at you when you can backup into cover. Then immediately hiding your [edited]. since you weren't spotted when you shot, even if you get spotted (which many times you wouldn't if you played correctly, you should be safe before any shots come your way.

Edit: I will say I agree with the points about the overmatch mechanics, for a variety of reasons.

So... the Udes would give me fits when playing against it  --(I only play German vehicles) so I bit the bullet and completed the grind to the Udes.   So far, I hate it for the reasons mentioned above...but wanted to ask, what is the best way to play this thing?   Is it as a true, hidden sniper?   I like the speed and scouting some with it...but the biggest problem I have is the lack of gun depression and finding a spot/terrain where I can actually target vehicles.    Armor is meh and gun is ok...but I'm sure there are things I can do to play better.   What works best for you all?

I've played against enough UDES 03s to not really be too concerned about them anymore.  Once spotted, they're vulnerable.  Immobilize them and they're helpless.
