Hi all,

I've just created a new website called WoT Talk covering World of Tanks; a sort of news and reviews blog written not by a unicum, but from the point of view of an average to good player. You can find it at Wottalk.com

My first full article is on the buffed T34-85M, and how releasing so many of these superpowered premium tanks has really changed the way we fight in Tier 6 Strongholds. It has also, in my opinion, ended the unchallenged reign of the Cromwell and Cromwell B as best at tier.

When I first started playing in World of Tanks I knew I wanted to fight in skirmishes, and eventually move up to Tier X clan wars.

So, I carefully researched the various tanks, and decided to invest real money in a Cromwell B as my primary tank for Tier 6 Strongholds. And, for a while, this seemed like a great decision.

The Cromwell B has its drawbacks, but it was a great tank for Strongholds due to its great speed, manoeverability and high damage per minute. Many of our teams ran six Crommies and a Type 64 for vision.

But then WG provided a massive buff for the T34-85M in patch 9.17, and more recently, gave away hundreds or thousands of these tanks in a simple mission.

All of a sudden our fragile but fast Cromwells ran head on into large numbers of T-34-85M mediums, and we got our butts handed to us for two days straight.

Simply put, the 85M is the new king of the Tier 6 mediums, and while the Crommie still has its place, an all Cromwell team has little chance against an equally skilled team of 85Ms.

Check out the rest of the article and a video by Quickybaby on the same topic AT THIS LINK.

The crommies have ran rough shot over T6 strongholds for a while. It’s refreshing to see them slowly get reigned in.

The HE round on the T-34-85M does a number on those type 64s. Hit them for 300 dmg/shot. Usually it knocks out a crew member or two and some modules. Devastating to light tanks.

Good point; I don't use the HE much on the Crommie. Just not worth it. Maybe if you were shooting a VW Beetle?

You might not say that if you'd paid 50 bucks for one :(

Like shooting at type 64s? They have such thin armor that even the Crom could pen them with HE but you only go from 135 to 175 dmg when switching from AP to HE compared the the 85 mm russian guns that go from 180 to 300 dmg.

$50 for the Cromwell B?  Who would pay that for a Tier 6?

I paid $25 for mine over a year or so ago.

I actually had both. I earned the Cromwell, but bought the Cromwell B as a crew trainer (and because it looked cool). Point of order, I'm Canadian, and the price with the package I got was about $46 ... which I think was about $2.95 in US dollars at the time

We have been doing much better in the last two weeks playing all Crommie skirmish comps against the 85M. I think it was a matter of adapting our playstyle. I still think the 85M has a clear edge in brawling, but it's not one that can't be overcome with better tactics.
