So why play it? Why not do something 'entertaining'? Why not play a game that excites you or incites any kind of mental stimulation at all? There are a million games out there yet people still choose to be mindless..... I don't get it.

It's not your place to determine what other people find entertaining., or what they do with their free time. That's their decision! You don't have to get it, you just have to stfu and worry about yourself.

I didn't determine anything, I asked a question you idiot! Additionally, I am worrying about myself as every time I log in this game I get surrounded by complete morons and I'd like to know why.

I think alot of it has to do with the player base mentality. 40% of players are South Americans, and if you've played other online games, you'll understand that they don't see gaming the same way as us Gringos... to put it lightly. They are more about charging in with a group and killing or dying quickly, AKA the Lemming Train.

If you play late at night when most of the players are Asian, you will see the opposite style of play. Cautious, conservative, and cowardly. Lights don't spot, almost no-one plays heavies.. and it's a big camp-fest where everyone plays fast auto-loaders or is too afraid to go around a corner to take a hit to lead the charge.

During regular hours.. the only explanation is kids and old people. Kids haven't gotten that skilled in video games like most of us in our 20s who grew up with it, and most likely grew up playing Pokemon Go or my Little Pony instead of DOOM or Quake. Old people just have bad reflexes, and are consistently lower on the chart (no offense). Their play style is also more stubborn and defensive, whereas kids will likely YOLO across an open field.

So no, not everyone is as retarded is real life like in tanks. That's just my perspective though.

Another factor to take into account late at night, is, and I'm not sure how common this is among the player base, but there are people who do play very long stretches of Gaming.

I know every couple weekends I come home from being on the road and I might spend six to eight hours playing World of Tanks.

Say I start at four or five in the evening. Well by the end of that stretch of Gaming I'm getting tired. Mentally and physically. A person who is tired or exhausted is going to make many more mistakes and as a result play worse than they otherwise would. I think around the 10 to 1 a.m. slot, you have a lot of guys that are on just playing while they are extremely tired and not willing to give up yet for some reason.

XVM is playing its part in making it much worse than it has to be and it is making the game almost completely one sided as it changes the meta too much where one team basically suicides and the other rushes harder than anything on the Russian server. The amount of 45% or lower excrement after the merge has basically ruined the server with there being fewer average or better players.

Dealing with pubbies in real life does help to explain why pubs is so bad, people are Edited stupid and George Carlin was right.

No it's not just you..I've been playing since 2014 and this year I have noticed huge changes..Very obvious changes. I'm almost positive wot is giving bad players an adv as far as bounces, penetrations and chances of fire..as far as fire start watching who catches you on fire almost always a bad player maybe one out of twenty times maybe by a good player..with bad team I do t care who you are you win rati has gone down and in many cases you cannot even last long enough to get you wn8 you want..they need to go away with this like tank crap and go off stats if they want to diddle with something..I'm tired of getting aimed down by a red arty having battles last no longer than four minutes and these losing streaks..this past Saturday after noticing my loss streak I was pissed off...5 wins out of 32 battles, like seriously wthis going on..hard as hell to even grind a damn tank that you used to be able to own in..the player base is just something really special these days..so obvious..ill be real honest, I'm super tired of being by far the best player on the team the ignorance and out right cluelessness of players is crazy to say the least..I'm not the best for sure but wot seems to have been taken over by some group that panders to idiots or something..

I know for me I gave up improving and peaked out at teal/blue, a long time ago.  Back then I would study the enemy team composition, try to predict where they'd all go, and deploy accordingly.  I also kept up on weak spots, strengths and weakness of tanks, etc.   After a while I just didn't feel like doing all that.  Now I just go to certain spots and get by with reacting to the situation as it unfolds.  I haven't kept up with learning weak spots, strengths and weakness on all the new tanks either.  It still surprises me when I get walloped by a huge gun, because I never bothered to learn the guns on the newer tanks.  However I can still get by and maintain ~53% win rates,.

Bottom line is it requires quite a bit of effort to keep improving.   Some players feel it's just not worth it, and just drive to their spot on the map and have at it.   You see a lot of players top out at blue, get frustrated and go running to platoons.  Others are content to just sit where they are at.  After all, you get a new a game every few minutes, so you're right back in it with a new tank in short order.  They probably treat it like a respawn;  go wild, and start over.

The one's I don't understand are the campers.  Seems a bit boring just sitting and waiting all day in a video game, only to die pitifully.  The fishing example helps put a little perspective on it...  only a little...  still don't quite get it.

Whether you call it a game or a simulation doesn't really matter IMHO, the key is that WoT doesn't pay you back except in entertainment. (There are good tank simulations out there, WoT is more of a game with well-rendered maps and tanks to me.) Getting better beyond a certain point in respect to win rate will require some real effort, as it isn't just self-improvement, you will have to be better than players who are trying to do the same.

I would suspect that most players would apply that effort in another area of their life which promises a better return, and only allocate their spare time to WoT. I cannot fault them for that.

I watched a Streamer play Total War Arena in Beta last night.  Apparently that game forces players to level up before they can advance to higher tiers.   I interpret that to mean WG is aware that players moving up too fast without requisite skills is not good for games but that horse is already out of the barn with WoT.

Not always, or more accurately, not everywhere.

Player base is always bad...

I used to be one of the red/orange/yellow guys myself, but time, experience and really trying to learn, is changing that slowly...

As frustrated as I have gotten in some matches over the last few weeks at how dumb some teams are, I can still manage to keep a roughly 60% w/r and near 3k wn8 over the last 4-weeks just playing light tanks with a few heavy and medium games mixed in. So its really not that bad...

Yellow is bad? Man I thought getting to yellow was a decent milestone for me...

This is what blows my mind.... why do something you have no intention of improving on? How can getting punched in the face over and over be 'entertainment"? It's like going fishing without intending on catching fish. Are people's motions really this mindless?

I go fishing to drink beer and hang out with the guys away from the wife.  Catching fish is a bonus.

In all seriousness, I know what you mean, but this is a game that isn't newbie friendly.  They aren't going to score that occasional lucky head shot.  To learn this game and be decent at it actually takes some time and commitment to learning tanks and maps.. A lot of people don't really care to do that and just want to play some tanks.

It's literally impossible to average above 50% win rate for the player base.

It's discounting a large portion of the player base.
