Should I get into the next tier as soon as I can or stay in the level 1 tanks for a while?

Move on unless the tank amuses you. Your not learning anything down at tier 1...

My rule of thumb is: As soon as you do your hitpoints worth of damage in a battle in almost every battle, and start to get several kills a game, you can move on to the next tier.

Tier 1 is not the tier you want to stay at. Really just don't go past tier 5 until you feel comfortable, but tiers 2-3 are good to be at first.

best tiers to hang around a while is probably tier 4 or 5. you can learn a lot here and it wont cost much if you make mistakes! there's aslo a  few fun tanks that you can really have fun in. :great:

here's a list of must have fun tanks!

For tier 4 :luchs, M8A1, Ke-Ho, Hetzer, Matilda

For tier 5:  Kv1, (USA)Sherman 105 mm, (Uk) Sherman 6 Lb., T-34 (RU),  T-67

Do whatever you want to do.  If you enjoy being a punching bag at tier X 500 games in, then do it.  People will tell you how you should wait until you have a command of the game and are “competent” but those people forget that incompetent enemies are fun to shoot too.

I second this response.

Welcome aboard, happy to have you playing!

Move up to tier 4 asap

Why you ask?

Most missions for free stuff start at tier 4

As do the personal missions for credits so you can actually buy stuff

This is a great point that I don't think I've seen anywhere else when it comes to proceeding up the tiers. From Tier IV upwards, your battles qualify for things such as Tank Rewards where you earn free goodies just for playing the game.

Tier 1 used to be fun a long time ago.  WG killed that and now they wonder why new players quit. Do move up.  Tier 1 teaches you the basics of how to drive a tank and shoot.  Do look at beginner guides on YouTube and WG game site.

Continue to move up until you start to lose more games than you've won...

Don't waste your time in tiers 1-3. Stay in tier 5 until you are comfortable to move up.

Looks to me like you've done well in Tier I for such a new player, certainly better than I did when I started, so you must be doing something right:

http://wotlabs.net/n...yer/rodmillernc

You even have Mastery Level Badges in all your tanks so maybe you're a natural phenom when it comes to this game.  Given your atypical early success it might make sense for you to skip Tier II and move on to Tier III if you want but I would stay there for about 500 battles or so while you study and learn how to play the game.

500 battles might sound like a lot but I played almost 2500 battles in Tiers I-III before moving up to Tiers IV-V.  Not suggesting you do that but there is something to be gained by taking it slow.

move at whatever pace feels comfortable, but stop at the first tank you like and train your crew until you have '6th sense'.  then continue as you like.  6th sense will save your butt a lot.

Are you doing "well" or at least "OK"?

Yes? Sweet! move on.

No? There is benefit in playing around with it until you figure out how to play it.

More so - there is benefit in figuring out how to play AGAINST it.

Either way... If you're having fun - you're doing better than a lot of people who play.

Starter tanks vary per person.  I see anything tier 1-4 as starter tanks.

Tier 1, you have a 100% crew in each tank, I think we're up to 9 nations?  These should require no more than a handful of battles to unlock the tier 2.

Complete the tutorial at the start to get extra credits and a free tier 3 tank with a 100% crew by the end.

In short:

Tier 1: 10-15 battles

Tier 2: 25-30 battles

Tier 3: 30-40 battles

Tier 4: 40-50 battles

Tier 5: 50-70 battles or less

Your milage may vary based on skill set and learning rate.

"mileage may vary" aside, are you suggesting moving up to Tier VI after only 155-205 battles?  Man, I must really suck!

It took me 10 times that to be even remotely successful....at Tier III   :(

That was "time to grind/unlock" not time needed to get a firm grasp on the game.

It takes a lot longer and I encourage peeps taking it slow to learn as you go.
