best tiers to hang around a while is probably tier 4 or 5. you can learn a lot here and it wont cost much if you make mistakes! there's aslo a  few fun tanks that you can really have fun in. :great:

here's a list of must have fun tanks!

For tier 4 :luchs, M8A1, Ke-Ho, Hetzer, Matilda

For tier 5:  Kv1, (USA)Sherman 105 mm, (Uk) Sherman 6 Lb., T-34 (RU),  T-67

Agreed. Great list of starter tanks here.

One good way to pace yourself is to be sure and have half as many skills on your crew as the tier you are leaving before leaving it.

For example:

1 full skill before leaving tier 2

1.5 full skills before leaving tier 3

2 full skills before leaving tier 4

2.5 full skills before leaving tier 5

3 full skills before leaving tier 6

etc.

Tiers 1 - 3 are garbage tiers.  You won't learn anything there.  Even tier 4 is arguably a garbage tier.  Get to tier 5 ASAP.  That's a good tier to work on the basic mechanics.  After that, go at whatever pace you're comfortable with.

Explain why Tiers 1-3 are garbage? I've spent most of my time at those tiers and have learned a great deal ... curious why that might be self-delusion.

Beyond map awareness and learning when to flex and fall back, the tanks and playstyles of most of those tanks don't apply to later tree tanks and higher tier gameplay and it creates a lot of bad habits staying so low.

I'm not saying people shouldn't play whatever they want, but low tier games after a few hundred games have little left to teach so moving beyond them is necessary to keep on improving as a player.

Most people have already said this, but don't stay at tier1. You are not learning anything at that tier. If you want to take your time to learn before advancing, get to tier 3. Really, hitting tier4 is wherethe first big learning curve jumps because the game between tier4 and tier6 tanks is huge. Most tier4 tanks will not even be able to pen some tier6 tanks.

Tier 1 is chaos. Once you have WASD and fire figured out move up to 2 at least.

The game gets more like it is later on @ T-IV but V is a better learning area.

You need to learn to fight tanks 2 tiers higher than you are (yes it is possible) and you can't do that at T-III and under. :honoring:

T-V earned tanks also make the most average credits per round. http://www.vbaddict.net/gamestatistics/average-net-income
