I JUST UPDATED THIS STORY ON MY WEBSITE WITH NEW VIDEO BY DEZGAMEZ, THAT SHOWS THE CHANGES TO THE MAPS, AND ALSO ANSWERS SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT GAME PERFORMANCE. CHECK IT OUT AT THE LINK BELOW.

The WG Devs have been busy, and while they haven't produced a lot of new maps, they have churned out amazing new versions of many older maps.

The new HD maps are going live today, Oct. 11, on the Sandbox server, and they are absolutely stunning.

I found a video by a player on the Asian server that shows the new maps in detail, and I've posted them on my website, which you can view BY CLICKING HERE.

If you want to share the videos with anyone, here is the link: http://wottalk.com/2017/10/10/mind-blown-early-look-at-the-sandbox-hd-maps/

A few of the videos are badly shot on a cellphone, but the rest are pretty good. I also posted the intro video by Wargaming.

If you want to see the new maps without enrolling in the Sandbox, just go to my site and check them out. They are actually pretty amazing, and a lot of them look completely different from the maps you're used to.

Best, Finn.

I saw a Live today's noon, with the new HD graphics. Whoa! Loved it!!!
Congrats, WG! :medal:

But it's sad that I wouldn't see it, because my PC is _ _ _ _ (you can use the word with "c" or "s" here). :(

Would be nice to know what the systems requirements are to run these new maps.

I would be looking forward to it if they would just produce more "new" maps...But at this point I could care less...

They make new modes no one plays, they make old tired maps we have been playing for years into HD, big deal...

For the luv of god WG, make new maps...and not fire-this or winter-that re-works of the same maps...

I spend a TON of cash on this game, and I am getting sick of the rate for actual new maps people can play...

And here is the kicker...many people (I would bet more than 30% of users) will just turn the graphics down for better performance...it just boggles my mind that they would invest so much time and effort into something like HD maps...

If you watch the video they say most of the HD improvements will not affect gameplay. Jury is out on that one though...we'll have to wait and see.

^^^LOL, first response in this thread says he will turn graphic settings down...

First response...statistically that does not bode well for the number of people that will actually use HD graphics...my 30% prediction of people that will turn graphics down is likely way low...and when you consider most people playing this game have hamster-wheel PCs, I bet its closer to 70% of people that play who will turn the graphics down to the point that HD is meaningless...

Wake up WG...focus on things people can actually use and want...

re. Shinier turds .....

I would also like to see new maps, but I have a feeling the lack of new maps is expressly because of the work WG has been doing installing the new map engine that made these HD maps possible.

Why make new maps, if you know you're just going to rework them later?

I hope this is true, because I'd love to see some new and larger maps, and wouldn't mind seeing others replaced or fixed.

I find Ensk much too small, for example, and Lakeville has that ridiculous problem where much of the valley area is made of flypaper, so your tanks can barely move or turn. What's that about?

I also agree a lot of people will turn down the settings, but I heard in the announcement that the new engine also makes it easier for the Graphics Card to process the imagery, so even people using lower setting will get a lot of benefit out of the HD maps. Again, we'll see what happens in practice, and I'd love to hear the experience of people using the Sandbox this week.

I think I am seeing the answer based on some of the repomses here already, but just for clarity's sake, at least for me:  Will the new HD maps have any impact on those who run the game in SD mode, such as myself?

correct.  a tiny crappy city map will still be a tiny crappy city map...  oh, wait, that's probably not what you meant...

The HD maps are total reworks. The "old" favorite spots are gone. They are truly like new maps. Before passing judgement with no experience  playing the new maps and posting snarky crap, you will need to play these maps to understand that It is a whole different ball game. Even the city maps are really changed up in format.

https://thearmoredpa...nsk-cc-trip-qa/

has some detail in the interview.

Tessellation will mean every object in the game will be render in 3D, rather than in 2D, same for the sniper mode option. Lastly it is obvious for “Improved physics”. These settings will be for high end machines. We are also introducing a new pre-set called “Ultra” for high end PCs, where we only recommend players will high end graphics card (e.g. 1060 or + level) to run this graphic pre-set. There will be more graphics effects include in the “Ultra” settings. Please don’t get confuse with the existing pre-set of “Maximum”.  The “Ultra” preset will be more demand than the existing “Maximum” settings. (The developers are considering renaming “Maximum” into something else that are less confusing.)

Glad you posted this. The new maps do look like they would play different, not just look different. By the way, I just posted a new video on these maps at the same link: http://wottalk.com/2017/10/10/mind-blown-early-look-at-the-sandbox-hd-maps/

I tried those maps in maxed standard graphics SD client on my pretty old crappy lappy with gt 720m and some third gen i5 and was getting constant 60 fps. Tried medium improved graphics but it dropped performance to 20-25 fps which is pretty much playable for some. For me it was a bit too choppy to play.

Another shot. We are having trouble loading into certain maps. This map is so different than the present one it is not funny. Tank alley is 100% different - and this is tank alley below.

You cannot stream without permission, and you cannot discuss PHYSICS. But they have released video flyovers of the maps and the screenshots do not divulge any trade secrets.

Having said that, I think the new map textures will bring new life back in the game. And the mountain goats are in for a shock
