Consider the following. 100 ppl buy 1000 gold for gold rounds, That is 100,000 gold for $493.30. Now these 100 ppl will use this gold over the course of say 3 months, because that's expensive right? BUT! GOLD ROUNDS ARE FREE NOW! but im gonna need to get a premium tank so that I can keep a constant supply, so 100 ppl buy, lets say a lowe its very common and amongst the most commonly owned, a lowe is $54.79 now times that by 100 that is $5,479... and that is just 100 people. think about the other 30k ppl on the NA server alone. $1,643,700 and thats just for buying the lowe. what about all the other new op tanks that WG releases, and then power creeps and hope no body notices. and then when the old ones get too bad to use anymore then "Buff" them so MORE ppl will buy them. Guys its marketing. Also, angling doesnt help against gold rounds if the one shooting them is even a little intelligent, just aim for something flat. who cares what the armor value is, its gold, its going through.

So it took you 6+ years to figure out that WG makes money off gold rounds?

I hardly play the game anymore as gold ammo is basically the main reason that's ruining the fun for me. I wouldn't agree with the removal of gold rounds but rather balancing them where you sacrifice damage for penetration like it was historically. Until that happens I'm more than happy to play other games that still bring me joy.

Why do you call them [gold] rounds when they can be purchased with [silver]?

They are not exclusively purchasable with gold.

Call them [premium] rounds.

Because those of us who've been around forever and remember back when they used to only be purchasable WITH gold got the name from that.

BobTheBaconator,

Premium rounds are free, they don't cost money.

Your statement that you need to spend money to buy premium tanks to run premium rounds is not true.
I used a standard account with no premium tanks for over a year and I used premium rounds as needed.
Now, I have premium time and tanks courtesy of tournaments and tankrewards.com.

Finally, proper resource management can save you a lot.

Buy tanks when they are on sale (such as On Track missions).

Buy consumables/equipment when they are on sale.

Additionally, if you don't jump up to the next tank in the line as soon as you can afford it you can earn extra credits.
With that savings you can easily fund the occasional premium round usage.

It don't matter if it was changed after the fact, people know the gold ammo as gold ammo because thats just how it was. It wasn't until around 2013-2014 when it was removed, and the name stuck.

Why are you all so offended? Did I say anywhere in there to remove them? no. I gave a reason as to why WG Wont remove them. So why cant your tiny minds comprehend that fact? also, @GuassDeath, as there is no poll I didnt ask for your ways around the situation, Does it apply to everyone? no. I dont use Prems and I use all gold rounds. (I do own alot yet, But I mean that I dont play them much at all)

The term only stuck for those that wanted to keep using it. I've been around since long before the change to allowing credits to purchase premium ammo, and have always called it just that, premium ammo. Just like I refer to large repair kits, large med kits, etc as premium consumables.

It's no big deal, just personal preference. Nothing for anyone to really worry about one way or the other in my view.

I typically do as well, however Ive recently discovered that some people dont understand what Im talking about when I call them premium rounds. so for simplifing the thread, I used "GOLD" so that there was no confusion. I didnt consider Mental rejects to get offended by that because they think im starting a gold round ban movement or something.

The problem is time. People who have the time can wait for all of this garbage, but why do that when you can spend $100 and have a Tier 8 tank with immense credit earning potential instantly? Why grind for hours upon hours and battle upon battle if you can more than halve the amount of time you spend by purchasing silver, gold, and premium time? Casual players who want to enjoy this game don't have the time to. Is that fair to them?

Why is so hard to you to accept a game mechanic?

Sure, that is absolutely fair. You want to bypass time, well there is money. Time or money, your choice. Or you can go with the third option, earn premium stuff. Tournaments, missions, etc are all ways to earn premium tanks and gold.
Anyhow, it doesn't take *that* much time. 2hours a day really. Assuming you work 8hours a day (9 with breaks) + travel time of about 1hour that leaves about 6hours a day. If we assume 2-4 of those are occupied with household stuff that still leaves you 2hours a day to grind missions. I usually get the tankrewards.com stuff done in 1 hour.

Someone else must have answered you, but they are called "Gold" rounds because they use to be only available for gold. Then Wargaming realised they could suck more money by making them available for silver.  Not in a sustainable way without a premium account and premium vehicles.
