Guys, I'm conflicted on deciding between these two tanks. From what I gather looking at the Stats the Panther is better in all ways except sheer Alpha...But the Ravioli looks so sexy it's very hard to resist. So I'm asking y'all who've played with one or the other if you had one that would be preferred over the other because I roughly understand both vehicles by watching others play them, but more opinions is always better.

The Rav is better, because the gun does damage. I like both but the Panther gun forces you to nibble on enemy tanks. In a tier ten mch the Panther is just out of it.

My god man, never pay for the Panther 8.8.

Rev is great fun and a nice change of pace from most other tier 8 premium meds. Buy it.

You have plans to get T10 German or T10 French first? With the state of T8 and mm dropping you into T10 games most of the time, no T8 is really that great.

I own both and find I play the Panth8.8 more often. The armor can hold up on occasion against T10s unlike the M4Rev. Both are fun to play as top tier but the M4 requires more skill due to the long reload. Also the M4 shoot APCR as standard so you need to aim (or load skill rounds) against the curved, super armor Russian tanks.

Back when they first offered the Exchanging Tanks to get other ones plus using some gold, I traded the Panther 8.8 for the M4 Rev.  Neither really got armor but I enjoy the gun depression of the rev along with the Alpha damage. So my suggestion is the Rev.

I really like the M4A1. The pen is a bit low, but you can work around it considering it's a medium with good gun depression. The gun is lovely with 390 alpha and fantastic shot velocity.

I don't have the Panther but the Rev. apcr velocity is great at shooting moving tanks in the sides.  It will bounce a lot otherwise.  The negative of the apcr, you have to hit a flat spot.

Avoid the turdpanther at all costs and get the M4 as it doesn't suck despite still being a tier 5 hull that faces tier 10s.

Rev is great and competitive, Panther sucks and is one of the weakest prem tier 8's there are, they have buffed it several times and its still not very good. There is no question or choice about it...if you need a German crew trainer, wait for the Mutz to go on sale.

Rav, and it isnt even close.

Ever see WG give away the Panth88? no.  Why?  They cant give it away !!!

Ravioli isnt a great tank, granted.  But, if played right (that is, as a support tank vs up on the front lines) it can really excel.  Its still a Sherman hull, good, bad, or other.  But, that gun... thats why its tier VIII

The ravioli has significant advantages in alpha and shell velocity, and basically the same performance in every other aspect. Even the DPM difference isn't all that noteworthy. Tier 8 mediums with 240 alpha are a complete disgrace in the current meta.

M4a1 is ok, keep in mind you will meet tier 10s with a sherman's hull. It excels at top tier, but most of your matches will put you as bottom tier. The alpha is great and the gun handling is superb, but the pen is average at best, you can't really pen any Tier 10 weakspots. The mobility is ok, but when compared to other mediums, its rather dismal. Also, many tier 10s can pen your side with HE, so be careful.

Dear god, Do not ever pay for the Panther 8.8. Its one of the worst T8 meds out there. Theres nothing it does well and after the Panther line buff, its completely left behind. The Panther II is better by miles, is free, and still fights T10s 9/10 battles.

The Mutz is the better alternative all day long when its up for sale.

I don't own the Panther 8.8, but I am a fan of the M4A1 Rev.

The Rev is a balanced tank with a distinct playstyle. It's gun is accurate and has an awesome silver APCR round with extremely high shell velocity, so it's easy to hit faraway targets and moving targets. The armor is very weak and the mobility is mediocre, so patience is required to perform in it. The gun has superb gun depression (-10), so it can work ridges well.

I did a detailed review of the M4A1 which may help you decide whether or not you like the playstyle.
