Unfortunately, this stupid drowning happens all the time, usually but not limited to the artillery. I have asked many people why they do it. Stopping someone from a medal or finishing a mission is a weak excuse, how on earth do you know who is close to what medal or mission? Just a way to get it over with , I usually try to hide, or try for a last shot or ramming points. There are more honourable ways to end a game.

Ok I’ll weigh in. The reason I will never intentionally drown myself at the end of a losing match is there could be some poor sucker on the other team that needs one more kill or one more hit to finish off a frustrating mission. I have been denied a mission a few times because  the last SPG drowned, so I understand the frustration. On the other hand I did MT-12.4 “Incinerator” before the buff, light two tanks one tier above on fire, by torching the very last SPG standing. I was very grateful he didn’t drown and I thanked the player after the game.

My two cents

I've made sure to thank the guys helping me get the missions done. Tiger 1 rammed my IS-3. I was grateful when I got the HT-9 completion. :P

bring back no penalty desertion and I will stop drowning. WG quit wasting my time with one sided games and dubious module damage

Is'nt everyone sick of scumbags drowning themselves to avoid fighting?

EDIT : the numbers i propose are merely an example. I'm not suggesting x20 is optimal, but some form of punishment is to be set in place. I just made up some multipliers to set up numerical examples.

A very simple solution :

OPTION 1:

- If a player dies by drowning, they gain no revenue from the match, and they pay x20 their normal expense cost, and gain no xp for that game

ex - a player, at the end of the battle, should have received 30,000 credits, with 20,000 repair/resupply costs, and 850 xp, for a net total of 10,000 credits profit and 850 xp; However, because this player drowned themselves, they receive 0 credits, with 20000(x20)= 400,000 repair/resupply cost, for a total of -400,000 net loss and 0 xp. (again, please take these numbers as a numerical example, not what exactly should be dont)

OPTION 2:

- if a player dies by drowning, the receive -50% credits and xp for the next 10 games.

ex - a player, at the end of the battle, should have received 30,000 credits, with 20,000 repair/resupply costs, and 850 xp, for a net total of 10,000 credits profit and 850 xp; However, because the player drowned themselves 4 games ago, he only receives 15,000 credits, with 20,000 repair/resupply costs, and 425 xp, for a net total of -10,000 credits and 425 xp.

questions you may have :

Q - what if someone drowns by "accident"?

A - that person is an idiot for even getting themselves into a situation like that, and therefor must be punished accordingly so they avoid getting into the same situation.

Q - what if someone on my team pushes me and drown me?

A - pretty sure the TK system picks up on that from last time I saw

Q - why is such a system needed?

A - 1 - to prevent desertion of teammates and 2 - to stop active denial of certain achievements that an enemy player might have gained if the drowning player fought fairly

Q - What if a  TK'er pushes me and drowns me?

A - an additional system should be put in, where if a friendly tank is in contact with you, they are responsible for an enviornmental damage you receive for x seconds

tl;dr : drowning vehicles are a result of either cowardice, idiocy, or both. Either way, it must be punished

Horrible ideas, go read the previous posts on the same subject.

Nope, wrong answer.  Punish Wargaming for allowing it in the first place.

Technically there is already a punishment, however I agree it is not strict enough

The ENTIRE problem is that the system has no way of knowing when a drowning is deliberate or unintentional, and the developers don't want to waste time coding in all the little oddities of the game like today where the  Tog and the scorpion driving over a bridge resulting in the US Scorpion betting bumped off the bridge into the water (was that a Team kill, a suicide or an accident) I have also seen tanks get shot in the tracks resulting in the tank skidding off the edge into the water, I guess they should get slapped for getting shot by a red reslting in them going in the water with an additional penalty to make you happy?

Never mind the broken duck physics resulting in tanks Overturning. some of these are blatant, some of those are "Hold my beer and watch this" moments, and some are accidental. Hell I saw one where someone trying to help a sideways tank ended up bumping it on its turret. should that be a team kill?

Ok let me clarify.

you can deliberately flip yourself over resulting in tank destruction.

So if you decide to punish one form of Suicide, you have to punish ALL forms of suicide.

and I love Driving my "Ram" tanks.....

and fliping tanks over via ram happens fairly often, at least once a night when i am in RAM mode.

and Rams flips  I get credit for like this

Are not that common, usually  when they flip they roll on there top without me literally running over them.

WG doesn't even have a cheat-detect system. You think they'll add in what you suggest?

I am not against some punishment it but it should be linked to the complain system. i.e. if I drown myself in the beginning of the battle due to a maneuver error, probably no one will complain about it. At least not in the enemy team. But if I am the last man standing and I choose to suicide -> there should be a complain option from the enemy team that triggers a flag. Flag(s) + Drowning/crashing/overturning death = case for punishment. Either a special "suicide" complaint or just the "unsportsmanlike" existing one should do.

20x rep costs and whatnot is hard to implement. What if the account being punished doesn't have the credits? What if it is abused by others/teammates/whatever because they don't like you or your clan etc? People team-kill or push you in the drink "just cause" and to waste your time, imagine if such griefers could also waste your wallet in the same breath...

I would not be against the punishment equaling to forfeiting 100% of the battles' exp and credit earnings. It is already worse than going AFK and it can never lead to a "negative" wallet amount.

This guy has 3200 games and is just TERRIBLE (42% win rate and 82 WN8).  He is in an M103

I politely suggest that he back off a couple tiers.

He tells me to f off then does this.

He loses next to nothing for this action.  He was going to die anyway.  He was probably going to do next to 0 damage.

He gets free XP and can just move on and drive his next tank into the lake.

No, it doesn't bother me in the slightest.  I can't control what my teammates or enemies do so there's no point worrying about it.

Automatic punishment due to drowning is a slippery slope because lots of people do it on accident.  In fact, I see more people doing it on accident then I do intentionally.

I think the  bigger question the OP needs to ask himself is this....

"Why does this make me so angry that I have asked for severe punishment on this?  Why is this so important to me?"

As one who is very aware of my own rage issues with the game and my ongoing journey to conquer it, I'm curious what your response would be.
