on 11-29-17 there was a push for Windows 10 to version 1709 -- this included several items --

With the patch installed the game fails to start with the simple message (from Microsoft) "World of tanks has stopped working" -- this is after I get to the client interface and hit "PLAY" - so prior to logging in.  What I have tried:
1. Run the in game integrity check

2. Run the game in safe more

3. Run the game with SD Graphics

4. Deleted all game folders and reloaded the game

None of that worked -- always had the same error.

What did work was rolling back my version of Windows -- then the game runs as always.

Have asked some friends if they've seen any issues since the patch -- they have not.

Tried the patch (1709 update) again today -- same result -- it broke the game.

My system is a Lenovo Lap top with intel processor (I7), Nvidia GTX mobile chip, all the drivers are up to date... so nothing exotic (as far as I know) in my system.

Anyone else seeing this problem (I did not see anything in the forum, but who knows)

Since 1709 was installed on my computer World of Tanks will run normally but if I have my two displays mirrored and try to Alt-Tab to my desktop the computer will lockup solid and I have to power it off and restart it.

I have no problems when I only use one Display at a time.

It is not the same issue as yours but this didn't happen before 1709 so it appears that Wargaming needs to fix something in their code which is not quite compatible with the latest version of Windows 10.

Which will be difficult for them because there are probably thousands if not millions of people running 1709 and WOT with no issues.

I have the same problem on an Dell Alienware 17 running Windows 10.   I can't get the game to load with the exact error message you mention.  I tried everything you listed as well.   I am going to rollback Windows now to see if that works.   If anyone knows what is up with this I'd appreciate their input.   Here is the whole story:

World of Tanks will no longer launch after Windows 10 updated itself adding patch 1709.   The launch responds that "you are running the latest client version" and when I click on the "play" button it immediately returns a pop up window stating "world of tanks has stopped working.   Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."   But, nothing happens after that.   I deleted and reinstalled World of Tanks and all its files.   I also attempted to Uninstall all of the components of Windows 10 update 1709 but one of the KB files won't allow me to uninstall or remove it.   Here is a list of the KB files:  KB 4054022 (Service Stack Update (1709?);  KB4048955 (Cummulative Update 1709);  4051963 (Cummulative Update 1709); KB 4048951 (Flash).  One of the updates wont allow me to uninstall it (KB 4054022)(Service Stack Update).  "Uninstall" button is unavailable through the normal Control Panel method for that patch.  When I try to uninstall it with the command line uninstaller I get an error message that says "Windows Update Standalone Installer.  Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4054022) is required by your computer and cannot be uninstalled.  The WOT Game still won't launch.   I ran the game troubleshooter and printed am submitting the log file.   I don't know what else to do.  Any help is appreciated.

This is my exact scenario and those KB files are the same -- I'm not sure that uninstalling was a good move since these sort of version (1709) updates are probably linked and have co-dependent code -- you may have to reinstall the updates and then roll back to prior version - I'd try rolling back first.

The rollback is in "Setting" - using the "Recovery" tab (left side of screen) and then you'll have to look for the rollback option -- it will ask you to do a lot of stuff... ignore it and just rollback to prior version... takes about 10-15 min.  GL!

You're right about that -- everyone else with the exception of Cephalon and myself (and the unknown poster from a couple weeks ago) seem to be fine... so a real needle the haystack.

You are correct.   The uninstall method was unproductive.   I wasn't aware that there was another option (Rollback).   However, I stumbled across the "revert to prior version of Windows" (or something to that effect).   I was afraid it was going to roll me back to Windows 7 or something.    But, it rolled me back before the Patch and now I can get back into WOT.    I appreciate your insight.   I suppose at some point I am going to have to figure out what I am missing with that update from Microsoft.   It seems to me to be related to the Service Stack Update.

I just updated windows and I'm getting all kinds of weird failures in WoT.  The garage won't load properly.  Sound keeps crapping out just like it did during the Halloween event.

I had some major issues beginning in mid-November with error codes resulting in BSOD's, and my internet was intermittent. WoT would drop during a game. Couldn't re-install WoT as I got errors during extraction of the files, but I had to try numerous times until it loaded. I figured my computer was dying. Tried everything most people would try, check disk, drivers, ect.  I rolled back to Win 7 but with my current graphic card and monitor I couldn't run Wot because of scaling. I updated back to Win 10, the problems persisted. Believe it or not I uninstalled Google Chrome, set Microsoft Edge as my default browser, and all those problems disappeared. Maybe I had a corrupted version of Chrome, IDK, but it solved ALL the problems.

If it's any consolation,  I'm having the same problem and have reloaded the game, but to no joy. Good to learn that rolling back win versions seems to do the trick, cheers.

Having the same issues here.  It amazes me that WOT support does not know about this.  My support ticket suggested it was the video drivers.  They are all up to date and have been waiting for a response.  After I found this thread tonight I tried to rollback my version on Windows 10 and the option in no longer available.  Going to try a system restore.

I have the same issue with MS patch 1709.

Rolling back is only a temporary fix. What are you going to do when MS has a security patch ?  Wargaming is going to need to come up with a work-around.

Based on the event view output below, it looks like a compatibility issue between world of tanks and microsoft’s ucrtbase.dll file.

I am having the same issue with the latest Windows 10 update.  I installed the update last night, and now I get an error message when attempting to launch the game.  I run zero mods on the game and have never had a problem before. I won't be trying to roll back the operating system though.  Hopefully WG comes up with a solution to this.

Edit: So much for completing the on track event for the Sheridan  :sceptic:

Well... it looks like i wasnt the only one with this issue.

3. Run the game with SD Graphics

4. Deleted all game folders and reloaded the game

None of that worked -- always had the same error.

uninstalled WoT and tried reinstall with No success...

a Similar issue with WoS as well....  uninstalled tilll i can get WoT running first as it takes a while to reload.

sent a ticket to MS... just after this started after the 29th.... havent heard a thing.

iss anyone at WoT working on this? or even aware?

Thanks Wargaming, crapday at work, get home, looking forward to trying new French heavies. Update was done in the morning, try to load, wont load. Start in safe mode, wont load. Try EU account, it loads. Delete mods, still wont load. Decide to reinstall, the game wont even let me [edited]uninstall. Well done guys.

After the Windows 10 1709 update (12-7-17 for me), when I ran World of Tanks, I received the following (two-part) message: Hang on while Windows reports the problem to Microsoft.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Afterwards, I uninstalled and re-installed the game--the results were the same.  I  opened a ticket with WG support staff on 12-7-17.  They requested a WG check report.  I provided the report.  They suggested removing the game preferences file thereby setting the game back to default settings.  I did this and it did not work.  I sent another WG check report.  WG staff then instructed me to run an integrity check (modifying the of the game launcher: properties & target field) and run it as an administrator.  I did this and it did not work.  I sent another WG check report.  WG staff then instructed me to uninstall and re-install the Nvidia driver.  I did this and it did not work.  I sent in another WG check report.

Tin foil hat moment: although I am a computer/software novice, after doing some research on the internet and browsing through the forum, at this point I suspected an incompatibility between Windows 10 (1709) and the game.

On 12-12-17, WG staff did confirm there were on-going issues with Windows due to an incompatibility between Windows 10 (1709) and the "game client."  WG staff did offer a solution by reverting back to the previous version of Windows 10 but cautioned that there is a risk of harming the computer; they implied that the issue is with Microsoft.  I then replied and inquired about (1) confirming if the game will be unavailable to me until the compatibility issue is resolved (day, weeks, months, if ever) and (2) if I will received my 12 days of premium time back because the incompatibility is not within my control.  I also suggested some kind of post on the forum to inform players of the potential incompatibility issue (hug-a-tree moment).  WG staff's final reply on 12-13-17 denied the premium day comp and did not address my other issues.

I wonder how many players who received the 1709 update had the same thing happen...or not?

Anyway, I hope this helps.

Exact same thing is happening to me.  I'm a novice too.  I've been to places in my computer I've never seen before trying to figure this out.  The same thing happened with Steam games, but I uninstalled/ reinstalled them and they work now.  Really scratching my head about this one.  I think the Masters of the Internet have decided that I play this game too much.

I've wasted too much time trying to fix this, and won't be rolling back versions of Windows or anything like that.  I just hope I still have some premium time left by the time this gets resolved.
