Where I live we are getting and ice/snow storm.

Internet just went down... Reports are it will be down for hours.

Can't play ANY of my computer games. Can't play STEAM unless you are online.

Can't play World of Tanks or any of my other games cause they require internet connection.

What happened to the good old days where you got game discs and coul play whenever?

Actually if your game on steam is up to date you can run it on offline mode.

You can play steam in offline mode, you just have to switch to it before you get disconnected.

What happened? Companies discovered they could enforce online play to "Try and prevent piracy lolololitdoesntactually help"

Risk is a very nice off the grid game.

Does anyone know how much data WoT uses in, say, an hour of play?

Losing your internet really sucks.  (Mine right now is very unreliable... I called the superintendent today about it.)  No movies either.  Time to read a book about tanks instead?

Civ 3, MW and Mech Commander are all very fine off the grid games.

Also, if you're having trouble running the old CD games, uninstall this Windows update and they'll work just fine.

That's true.  If you do tether your computer to your phone briefly, you might be able to buy one of those off of GOG (good old games).

I have an e-book of David Fletcher's Osprey book about the Firefly.  "Troop Leader" by Bill Bellamy is supposed to be pretty good.

Those days aren't completely gone.  Buy your games from https://www.gog.com/ when possible.  Plus, they're DRM free and you don't have to worry about popping in a disc.  They even have some really good sales going on right now.

That is why I never sold any of my games on disk...it's always cool to pop one in and replay the game after years...almost like a whole new game all over!

If you lose connection you can still use offline mode by letting it sit for a bit trying to connect as it will eventually after a minute or so toss up a dialog box asking if you want to go into offline mode.
