And there are many matches where optics are useless. In fact, I don't put optics on the vast majority of my heavies.

But compare the number of matches in which the spall liner is helpful compared to the number when optics are helpful. Remember that having good view range can actually give you new tactical options, whereas the spall liner is never going to allow you to do anything that you normally wouldn't do. Also that spots can generate earnings via assist points and actually give your team relevant intel while the spall liner gives neither.

After the repair kit the binos and the cam net ... standard on all my tanks ... so no room for a spall liner.

If you're the last tank on the team, or isolated, then yes. But in the majority of time you spend in a match in a super heavy, this will not be the case. Isolated super heavies die horrible deaths. In all other scenarios, chances are there is another tank nearby that has far better view range, and will light tanks before you would, even with optics mounted. Then there are all the maps - or the portions of maps where super heavies tend to fight - where view range just isn't a factor at all.

spall liners work by INCREASING EFFECTIVE ARMOR. they do NOT REDUCE DAMAGE BY PERCENT.

so, a TYPE 4 is shooting at you, using HE, he hits your upper glacias which is only 100mm thick but well angled, sucks to be you. that does nothing for HE. so when its time to reduce damage for armor, instead of 110 (because the forumula is armor +10%) its 166 if you are using a super heavy spall liner.

thats right folks... the damage reduction is a whopping 56 in this example.

another tank, like the T95, things work out better, as 310 armor becomes 496. assuming someone is dumb enough to HE your face.
