So our clan's currently running tier 6 strongholds, and we're in the process of warming everyone up for the tier 8s. What tier 8 tanks would you guys (not) recommend?

This is my plan based on the tanks specs.

  • IS-3
  • Defender/Obj 252U
  • Patriot/T26E5
  • M41 90 GF
  • LTTB
  • AMX 50 100

Anyone can dream. :hiding:

Defender (or IS-3), T26E5, Skorp G, Lorraine 40t, M 41 90 GF (or WZ-132) are all great choices.

As for tanks not to bring, you should probably avoid KV-5, HWK 12, non turreted tds (for the most part), all arties. TBH the tanks you bring dont really matter that much as long as you have a fairly balanced line up, no more than 2 tds, no more than 2 lights and 4-6 heavies and you should be fine.

why? I think it would be better to bring the Lorraine 40 t.

Anyways seriously does not matter what you bring as for our tier 8 detachments.. everyone of us has a different tank (just to piss of the caller so he has to call everyone a different tank :D) and we still do pretty decent.

But for what not to bring and what to bring it should be obvious:

Bring heavies like the Defender, Patriot, Liberte, IS-3 or T32 works sometimes too.

Bring mediums like the Lorraine (really the only good one I can suggest), also the Type 59 or T-44-100 / T-54 first prototype may work.

Bring lights like the Blackdog or WZ-132. Could be a nice move to bring the ELC EVEN 90 since it's camo rating is pretty good for a scout.

Bring tank destroyers like the Skorpion G, Charioteer or UDES 03 (mainly for accuracy).. things with turrets would probably work best.

You probably want to stay away from obvious tanks like the KV-5, M6A2E1, AMX CDC, HWK 12, M4A1 Rev (any medium with that kind of gun doesn't usually work well in detachments for some reason), KV-4, etc.

Pack your team with Defenders.  Otherwise, forget about Tier VIII Strongholds.

I'd take a good player in a mediocre tank over a mediocre player in a good tank any day, don't play the obviously craptanks and you should be fine. the game does try to match you with close to equal opponents (heavy emphasis on try).

The progetto 46 is a good choice too.

Heavy tanks include things like 252/Def, IS3/A/5, 110/111, AMX50100, Patriot, Chrysler, 50TP, Lowe, OHO, Caernon

Med tanks are quite weak, and will largely only include Lorraine, Progetto, T44/54Mod, Cent RAC, 416, or FCM50T as a med

Skorp G, charioteer, UDES/S1, T28Proto, WZ120FG, Borsig are common choices for TDs

M41 G F, T92, WZ132 are good lights

No arty.

Some of my best battles ever in SH have been in the T92 and STRV. STRV bc it will penn pretty much anything even in the front and has great DPM and camo.

Udes is a lot faster so is much better at relocating. STRV has a much better RoF. Everything else I believe is similar (Camo, etc)

Then the UDES might be better in this situation.

UDES can drive and shoot with a wider stock traverse, without siege mode. lt makes it seem very funny and ridiculous.

Strv however, importantly auto bounces most <9cm guns, which most tier 8 meds use. This also includes M41GF and LT42

How about something that isn't a premium.  I think it's stupid that nearly everything on this list is a premium.  To me that just shows WOT being greedy.

Tier 8 Strongholds are not "serious business", they're for making beaucoup credits... and what better way to make tons of credits than to play mostly premium tanks ?

Personally, in Strongs I only play the 252U, T-432, 41 90GF, 40t, RedValise (cuz I won it) and occasionally something non-prem only because I'm GRINDING it.
