My stance on HD maps and the overall push to the much-vaunted 'version 1.0' remains the same as before. Yes, the new visuals are lovely. Yes, the level of optimization WG has achieved in the process is commendable. And yes, with the right ad campaign this patch could generate a massive amount of hype both for potential new players and old players alike. 

 

And precisely because this patch is going to attract so much attention, it is an opportunity that cannot be missed to make some obvious and desperately-needed changes that have been overdue for years now. I shouldn't even have to mention the issues that get talked about on a daily basis on these very forums. But I will mention one issue that isn't talked about here, and that's the way this game is marketed. WoT isn't an action game, nor a marksmanship-based shooter. Its a game of positioning. Chess but with dicerolls. But none of the promotional material, tutorials, or anything else lets us know this until we find out the hard way.

  • The West side of the Fisherman's Bay seems to give the total advantage to the North Spawn - the center of the map is a killing field from the West
  • Some of the maps are misnamed
  • The graphics look great - the FPS is good on Ultra for me with a GTX 1050 Ti - running at  about 88-100 FPS depending on the map. 
  • I WISH there was a way to have a NA test server- the 250-300 ping is a bear
  • It is SO strange to see a shell cross in front or from behind you and see it like a little star zipping by. Incredible graphic.

I can't believe you spent 3 years on this crap.  Same crap unbalanced maps, just in HD.  Wow, 3 years for this and no new maps.  What a waist.

So I noticed something weird with the lighting. As soon as I loaded in and adjusted the gamma I thought everything was strange looking. It's odd because to me on my potato laptop, it almost seems like the graphics got worse. By the way I run below minimum settings on both clients. The settings are identical between them. See the 2 screenshots below of my garage. The top is the 1.0 test server and the bottom is 9.22. The lighting is really off.

Must be nice being able to see all the new HD maps and whatnot...

 

While I'm sitting here, every single time I login I get "updating the garage", it NEVER updates..

 

I logged in ONCE, I went to pick a tank, and it froze, never to be able to actually get into the garage again...

> as its the common TEST I have no mods installed...

> Verified the file integrity probably 4 times?

 

What do I do now?...

Can I even reinstall a test?

No offense but if all you see is what you consider to be "unbalanced maps - just in HD" then you have bigger issues. Try reporting on what you think needs to be improved instead of being a butthurt baby.

I don't see that at all!

  • vehicles have positive control - not floating and skidding all over the place
  • graphics are scaled and proper
  • physics seem to be better this trip

I still hate arty with a passion

You have to be joking!

Complete revamp to maps so they play better and are hardly recognizable from the old (what I've seen so far with several yet to go)

This will be the best update Wot will release since the changes to the vehicle mechanics

Sound is fantastic both ambient and guns

Explosions are way better sparks, fires, tracers, ammo racks..

ALL I CAN SAY IS ....................WOW!!!!

There is little to not like about this change

If this doesn't impress you, you need Meds!

I agree this is FANTASTIC and will bring people back to the game!

So true ! Tanks like the STRV103B are still OP imo, but make this game challenging.

I still think the can need to be more realistic where as it should react a lot quicker for tanks coming into view

at 150 to 200 meters all tanks should be visible immediately unless they are camping behind good bush!

Time to remove the roving light tank camo in favour of size based system

Having full camo that is the same for static and fluid is demented, imo !

They have been working on a lot of maps as well as the new engine.

I too have been very critical and will not let them rest on my opinion continued development

onto new maps following this release

New maps are what keeps players interested in the game!

The wait has been very painful and at several points I was ready to move off and onto other activities.

Hopefully WG will take this opportunity and push forward with new map content ASAP for continued success!

  Agreed that it will have little affect on them. I live in the EU and see this of course. The EU will take hits as well. Not as many since it is run or allowed to run better. If they want to loose the NA server they are doing a good job.

 

Still all those bells and whistles and great graphics will not be enough to save this game. They need to do more and quickly.

Where?  These are the same maps that we have been playing on, just updated.  They are not new.  How stupid are you?  A few small changes and HD graphics and you think the maps are new?

Do u believe WG?

 

WG constantly LIES to the players such as PROMISING to nerf arty and to quickly bring back weekly tournys.  I doubt WG willl introduce any new maps in 2018 or bring back any of the good maps removed.  Besides, all the recent new maps suck such as PARIS, PILSEN, STALINGRAD AND KHARKOV.  I also hate OVERLORD.  I would prefer these maps be removed and replaced with HIDDEN VILLAGE, PEARL RIVER, SOUTH COAST, NORTH WEST AND SEVERGORSK AND PORT.

Does anyone know if you can turn off or if a mod can turn off the extra edges of the maps? 

 

I prefer to just see the playable area not some eye candy edges.

The new maps are prety, but so far I prefer the old ones.  The new maps are very bright, harder to see enemy tanks and very distracting.  I also think the chgs to Fish and Ford are bad chgs.  I like both of these maps as they are.  Paris is such a bad map, pls fix it and leave Ford and esp Fish alone.
