Hey Tankers,

More updates on the design changes to old maps for their conversion to HD.  Today's focus: Steppes, Erlenberg, and Kharkov.  Read up on the details and check out the interactive minimaps here.

you can change the town in Erlenberg all you want no one but suicidal noobies are gonna go there

you camp the 4 corners and that's it. you'd have to overhaul the whole map to make the middle even playable

Good to know and much appreciated. Would like to see some retired maps come back into the rotation at some point. Maybe rotate 3-5 new/reworked maps in (Northwest, Dragons Ridge etc) while rotating less favorable ones out say every 3 to 6 months. Might break up the monotony.

to clarify:

everyone and their grandmother has shots on the middle from almost everywhere else on the map.

why make yourself vulnerable to fire from not just 2 but 3 or even 4 different directions if you go there

add on the fact that the buildings prevent vision and therefor scouting and you've got a no man's land

legitimately thought they seem confused on where to take the map currently (no images and saying they have to redesign it)

I'd hate to see them remove more maps from the game but if I never had to play Kharkov again I wouldn't exactly be upset

NO to removal, but how about actually having destructible buildings?  That might make it more interesting!

You know what? Remove arty, remove all maps but Steppes (I mean maybe one or two others), and you've made the game 90% better.

Kharkov is a decent map but the redesign they had planned for it was absolute garbage. They should just extend the map to 1000x1000m while leaving the city as it is and adding more open terrain with enough cover to make it viable in the northwest corner.

Just remove Kharkov, nobody will miss that crap map.

Kharkov had to be rebuilt from the ground up. AKA, it was a real steamer of a purist funnel map. Oh well, hope the new rework does it some justice...and BTW, do something about Ensk please, like oh say triple it in size.

Make Wide Park actually wide.  That’s WAY too small for tier VI.

I think that the fundamental issue of the center is being in low ground.  As the result, no tanks, even super heavies, can reliably stay there if the shots are from above.  Sidescraping, hull down etc will not work.  Tanks in the middle can only rely on the surprise factor to work.  So it is at the best a place for scouts or fast mediums.

 

Because the center is such a bad place, pushing from either side need to cross large open areas, which is quite difficult with TDs, arties, guarding, and LTs hidden behind bushes.  In short, there is just way too much risk for pushing vs rewards.

 

A really simple fix is just raising the place to above / equal to the height of hills to the east and west.  This will make the center of the map very competitive.  Once the center is controlled, the side that wants to push can use center as the base to counter spot and push.

There still isn't any feedback when you get hit. Not a sound or quiver.  

Grats you managed to make Erlenberg even more unbalanced in favor of the north spawn.

That was my reaction seeing this. It's lots of fun to play with plenty fo opportunity to flank as it is in the game now. Why not just translate that to the new HD maps? You could make it a bit bigger I suppose.

Why are these maps still in rotation if they have been recognized as bias and (most) will be fixed in a month (1.0)? There seems to be plenty of other maps in the game. I see that some might want to point out that if you use this logic on tanks, than some tanks would get banned for a month, but I would say it's easier to outplay a single (maybe a couple) tanks than outplay a whole team on a bias map.
