Is there somewhere in game to view progress, and some sort of guide to the mastery marks?

They have good info. As far as guides, none are really all that useful. Just do as much damage as you while aiming for the front/rear axels.

thanks, I have a few marks, but I just got one for my Su arty , and it shows no stripe on the barrel.

The tanks I have 1 stripe on, does it take another M to get two stripes, or is it something built with multiple 1's ?

Anyway, it has given me a lot of help in where to look, and you are right claus is funny. Thanks again

M's do not contribute to gun barrel marks(marks of excellence). M badges are based off the amount of exp you get in a battle.
Gun barrel marks are based off the amount of combined damage you do in a battle(damage+assistance(tracking+spotting)).
1 gun mark requires 65% better than average damage over 14 days, 2 requires 85% and 3 requires 95%(not easy)

well, now I am lost.

Oh well, is there a way to view progress. Or after a few weeks of great play they appear.

I understand now  what is needed to earn them, mostly.

" Q. Where do I see my percentage for the marks?

A: In your service records, at the garage. Choose your tank, select the awards tab, then hover your mouse over the Mark of excellence badge to view it."
