I’ve heard the Charioteer is golden, and the Conway isn’t bad, but how bad is the Challenger?  Grindable bad or free xp bad? Or after all the buffs it got some months ago is it actually good now?

I played the line before they buffed a lot of the high tiers so take my opinion with a grain of salt especially since I have such disdain for that crappy Challenger.

Challenger - Unsure of how it plays now since they gave it a 32 lber but jfc this thing was crap back in the day when it only had the 17 lbers that just completely suck for a tier 7 TD.

Charioteer - Very comfortable tank destroyer medium to play with good mobility, good gun, etc. Its a fairly well balanced little machine but just like the Challenger try to avoid frontline combat with it.

Conway - People tended to hate this machine before it got buffed but even with the 120mm its still an amazing tank that can out DPM most heavy tanks and TDs with the exception of the S-Tanks. It can be played on the frontline if absolutely necessary but only do this if you really know what you're doing and have people there to tank hits for you.

FV4005 aka FV45 - I have no real experience with this tank after it got buffed but it just didn't interest me.

I'm currently in the Challenger, it's pretty enjoyable after the buffs.

It's mobility allows it to play like a medium while its gun is good enough to stay relevant when not top tier, 220 standard pen works fine against most tier 8s, and being a 94mm gun it can overmatch those annoying Strv's and Russian heavies' turret roofs.

The only real downside is its limited traverse, though it's still a large arc for a TD, so it can work pretty well with that speed and GD.

I'm debating if keeping it or not.

I use free xp on the challenger, wasn't a big fan of it.

The Chairoteer was the sweet spot in the line. I enjoyed the grind in it.

The Conway was ok, it got real nice with the top gun.

The 4005.... That's a love hate relationship. When the gun behaves, it is glorious. When it doesn't, you'll probably be pulling your hair out.

I free xped the tier 7 to get to charioteer.  That was before the buff.  I am currently playing the charioteer and love the tank.  Yes, it is golden.  In many ways it can be compared with how German Skorpion feels.

The best thing about it is it's flexibility to go to other flanks to deliver firepower few tanks can dish out (many tds have more firepower, but not much, but absolutely can't flex to different sides of the map like the Charioteer.  Those that can flex, don't have the firepower.)

Because of this, the Charioteer doesn't care what battle tier it's in. In a meta that discriminates against tier 8 tanks, it's fine in tier 10 battles all the time.

You could end your grind at the Charioteer and be happy.  Gl.

The Challenger was great before the buffs. Now it's super great. No need to free XP anything. I haven't played the Tier VIII a lot but it seems fine the little I have played it.

Challenger with 32lber is pretty good.  Very mobile.  Turret rotation is restricted but you can still use camo net and binocs while kemping bush.  I've racked up some good top damage games with the Challenger.

Charioteer is my favorite tank to play.  You cannot fire on the move. The gun needs to fully focus or you'll never hit the target, but when it it hits, it hurts!  HESH is not reliable.

On the RU server, you see a lot of FV4005 being played. More than I see on the NA

I 3marked the charities before the buff it is such a fun tank to play.

I hated the Conway before the buff bought it again after, used the 140mm had plenty of fun with that got the 4005 unlocked a week later.

Haven't played the tier 7 since the buff but it wasn't terrible before

Challenger and Charioteer are all keepers, especially since the buffs. They make great TDs or mediums, have good guns, decent view range, good speed and can work ridges now. Armor is essentially non existent, so it’s a thinking persons tank. As for the Challenger, you want the engines on this tank for the mobility to keep the reds on the edge of your viewing distance. I’ve only run 20 battles in the Conoway but what I see I like thus far, a flexible TD/ slow medium with a hard hitting gun (even the base gun). Follow the heavies a ways back and pop them while they’re reloading. Gets them mad as hell at you and they’ll just sit there taking hits waiting for you to come back out. Truth be told, after playing a couple dozen battles on the CTS FV4005  I’d rather have an upgunned Charioteer at tier 10 than the Sh1tbarn.

Edit: Charioteer HESH can be downright bipolar.

Once you get the T8, you'll understand why people free XP the T7. Not that it's bad now with the buff or anything. The T8 is just nice.

The T7 was decent but felt like a US T67 accurate but low damage. the T8 is a joy once you get the upgraded gun. Did these a month back.

I hate every tank in this line except the conway, it is now my all time favourite non-premium tank with the 5.5 inch gun and troll turret armor

i had problems with the challenger....this was pre-buff.the buff came just after i unlocked the charioteer. i played a few post-buff challenger matches, but i really wanted to move the crew up when crewtraining discount came right after. i havent played the charioteer much,(or most tanks frankly) but i had played it on the test server just before the patch that brought it into the game and i really wanted it...what was that, about 2 years ago? im not comfortable in casemate TDs,so turreted TDs suit me better.

The Charioteer is an excellent Destroyer. It has the pen to punch at and above it's weight with ease. The 4005 is a superb tank too. You can break the balls of any 268 4 or super heavy you come across. Keep in mind you have zero armor. Don't poke to a loaded Type 5 or 183/4005 unless their gun is pointed away from you to the point where you can get the shot off before they swing it around. Honestly I think the 4005/183 should have a -1 MM only. Why? Because it's absolutely unfair to pit it against 8s. They don't have the armor to stand up against HESH and they sure as hell don't have the hit points.

Thoroughly enjoy fighting the Challenger, Charioteer, and Conway. They provide a good balance of speed, armor, and accuracy but get beyond the stock gun ASAP. And avoid brawling situations, as they lack the armor to survive up close and personal engagements with many lights, not to forget they also have slow turret rotation speed.

The FV4005 is a difficult tank to play. It's 183mm gun is enticing, and at times formidable. But, it's not very accurate and has very costly ammo (HESH >8K per round). When you consider that any tank can seemingly pen it's crappy armor, requires 25-30 second reloads, and is a Holiday present with the biggest/weakest turret in the game, it's rather depressing (especially after that grind to get it).
