Man was I disappointed, its trash!!!!!!!!  Yeah the gun is great and accurate, but its armor is awful even tier V and Vl tanks can pen me in certain situations.  It's useless against derp guns arty and td's.  It is so heartbreaking to see WG put in a iconic tank into this game and turning it into a let down piece of garbage.

Its not trash, its not garbage, you just don't know how to play it. Every other new player comes in, no skill, no idea what they are doing, gets to the tiger and throws a hissy fit. The tank is fantastic.

What website is that data from?  I have a 45% win rate in the thing after 57 games but an average damage over 1300.  I'm doing something wrong.

57 games is too small a sample to draw any conclusions. You could log in, go afk for 5 battles win by accident and get to above 50% win rate.

The Tiger I was a fun tank back before bad matchmaking and powercreep. In a 6, 7, 8 spread it is a very capable tank. Being bottom tier most of the time takes the luster off of it fast. Sorry, I played it when it was fun and really enjoyed it. Too bad that same statement can be made about so many tanks in this game now. Matchmaker has killed the fun of tier 8 and the template teams are stale.

Tiger I isn't a tier 8 and has actually benefited from the new MM as it is almost never bottom tier.

I have it Aced, I think Double Aced at that, and the First Marks, it's a Good Tank....      It's not the Typical Heavy for starters....     That's not saying it can't Fill that role, but you need to take into consideration it's Limitations and what you're up against when you take it out....

Because it's not a Typical Heavy, you don't want to Sit in front of Red and take the Hits....     You move around, it can do that with the Mobility it has, and put the Gun where it's needed....     The Tigers are about the Gun not the Armor....      You have a Ton of Hitpoints that can be used elsewhere than being a Punching Bag...     It just needs figured out is all, it's a Very Capable Tank even in Tier 9 Battles once you get it Sorted...

I wanted this Tank when I started but I also wanted the Leopard I, so my Tiger Grind got Sidetracked for a couple of Years which probably wasn't a Bad thing....        I have the Tiger Twins and am working toward the E75 which is likely where I'll stop the Line, yue E100 hasn't Impressed me as yet so it's not a Priority....

Hey guys this is my first post and I've lately been pulling my hair out in frustration about the Tiger 1.  This was the icon tank that I loved reading about when I was a kid and the history of how it was one of the most powerful tanks in WWll.  So when I started playing World of Tanks I raced right to it. Give it some Armour or something guys!!!!! Make it more enjoyable to play for us.  Anyway what do you guys think?  Am I just a terrible tanker?  lol or do you guys agree with me and want to see a change to this what could be a awesome beast of a tank.

3 Tips for the Tiger 1:  (Source: I have 3 marks on it)

1. Learn to sidescrapre.. Tiger 1 armor is good on the sides. Move forward-backwards sidescrapping and your enemy will miss / bounce a lot of shots, as soon as he fires, shoot him. (Angle at 30°-40° against tier 6, 25° to 30° against tier 7-8).
2. Do not trade shots. Dont trade 390 for 240 damage. Try to deal 2 shots for every shot they get at you.
3. If 1v1, even against a tier 8, DO NOT be afraid to be agressive. The tiger 1 can kill a tiger 2 or a T34 1v1 in even ground. Use your superior HP and DPM.

I like Tiger 1, Tiger !! is crap because of tier 8 bias. E75 is great but E100 s crap. I just sold the E100 as it just cannot compete against other T10 heavies.

The E100 is not crap, it is just not a noob friend tank like the Maus, you need to learn how and when to use all 3 types of ammunition, angling your turret and your hull.

Long range (unless top tier), and angling. Tiger I has pretty much the lowest thickness ratio of side armor to front armor of any tank in the game, so you can angle to hull to up to some 40 degrees to the likely direction of incoming fire before it becomes a liability. This is a significant increase in effective thickness and you will start to ricochet a tiny amount. Don't forget to 'aim off' during the reload process to increase relative thickness of the turret front. When you combine that with the long 8.8 that you get after unlocking, this can become quite a nasty customer.

But, yes, if well tiered, it can be used for the final push, as it were. Do some long-distance reducing, then use the armor and hitpoints up close. The vehicle's not actually that slow.

Tiger II has bad gun?  Clearly you're a troll or just a terribad. If you can make the Tiger I work you should have an easier time in the Tiger II where your tank isn't as wide for sidescraping.

Tiger 1 doesn't meet tier 10 and their OP ARMORS/HEAT rounds, that's why tiger 1 is amazing, with Tiger 2 all you need to do is expose any part of your tank and a tier 10 will shot at you for 800-1100 hp damage with heat, tiger 2 has no spaced armor and the gun, 220 isn't enough to pen any tier 10 even less a maus

I'm sorry 285 APCR pen ain't enough for you. I've taken down Mauses before without even loading the gold. You play the Tiger II like the Tiger I (armor won't hold up well) and then you use your brain to make them look like idiots.

Yep. That seems the way to go. I've been having trouble in my Tiger II,so I'll give that a go. Looks like I'll be putting optics on it...

The armor isn't thick enough to bother angling, generally. You should hide behind cover and, when you poke, try to bait a ricochet off of you front or by sidescraping. Also, the mantlet is decent, so hull-down can work alright (one of the few german tanks where that's true).

Also, I dislike the assertion that tanks are "snipers", it encourages people to hang back and keep their gun out of the fight until the game's too far gone to be won. In general, such tanks should focus on being pretty close behind another tank that has better armor. Let him soak up the hits, and you focus on killing what you can.

Pretty much this. Unfortunately the side armor of the Tiger I is a lie it is 60mm behind the tracks not the advertised 80mm.

In reality the Tiger during it's time had a immense ratio for thickness compared to the tanks they engaged. Sadly though it's in a very bad tier to be used in. Tier 6 is honest to god where the Tiger needs to be along with the Panther. It just works better, they feel balanced.

Unlike the game, tanks working on their own didn't usually achieve decisive victories.  A German Blitzkrieg is not just about tanks, it's also the ability to move supplies and troops.  Against Russia, when the German oil crisis was paramount, it's not just about tanks vs tanks, it's infantry as well.  Germany cannot 'Blitzkrieg' when they're down to using horses, bicycles, and walking on foot.  Without infantry, tanks have been taken out with logs, crowbars, Molotov cocktails, etc.  So even though there are out-comes to certain tank battles, much of it is due to an entire system.  A tank victory might of been achieved more based on the fact of a vastly increase of mortars which decimated infantry rather then actual tank vs tank.  What you end up with is a lot of perceived value in tanks based more on the system as a whole then the actual tanks themselves.  Many tanks which were useful in combating infantry, are poor performers in the game due to their role never really was designed to take on other armored vehicles.  And in the game, tanks see tanks they never did in real life.  In game, many consider the M3 Lee as a bad tank, but in reality, it was often put in the position of being the baddest on the block.  Guns were used that did the job just fine for the time period they were used for.  In game, you can have a stock gun facing tanks that weapon would of never have seen.  And then you have tanks that were nothing more then a smear on a napkin that didn't exist.  And then there's a few mistakes they've made in the game as well, such as the T29 turret's armour or the small size of the E25.  Tanks are put into tiers based on game balance.  There are 'soft stats' that I think are based on if Victor Kislyi has a winning record with that tank in his garage or not. (joking... or am I?  Lol)  When it's all said and done, how good a tank's reputation was compared to it's actual usefulness is often wrong, and how good that tank will be in game is often going to be much further from the truth.  A lot of history of not just tanks, but of WWII can be wrong.  There are few Generals that ever wrote that they royally screwed up.  History can often be more about finger pointing then actual facts.   So don't get caught up with icon tanks or one-sided dogma of any story.

If you want the 'historical' tiger then you get either the 131 or jap tiger. Its a tier 6 with the historical short 88 and gets far better matchups against a selection of tanks it can actually bully like they want.

The tiger 1 has like four tier 6 premium versions now and even those don't perform very well.

The issue is that WarGaming loves to match tanks together with tanks that they would have never faced and were designed to counter them. The Panzer 4 fights KV-1, the Tiger fights IS-2, the Tiger 2 fights IS-3, all of these tanks should be down tiered one tier honestly. The Tiger 2 was arguably good at tier 8 for a while but it's absolutely outclassed nowadays. If the Tiger was tier 6, I'd say it would be playable, reduced HP compared to tier 7 but keep the rest of the stats. (The VK 3601 is awful at tier 6 even though it used to be decent.) If they don't want to put the Tiger 2 at tier 7, just keep the Tiger (P) at 7, slightly buff its stats and put it after the Tiger 1.

There we go, I rebalanced some massive flaws in the german tech tree. I could do this crapall day, there's a lot of these issues in the game because they originally had a big lack of tanks to choose from and had to find places for everything that was available.

Anyways, a lot of balance problems are just because of the tier tanks are put in, take a look at these old screenshots from the beta tech trees, you'll see why some tanks are put where they are.

Tiger 1 is excellent tank you simply need to stop playing it in the day time

tier 7 of any tank besides arty is to be played between 11pm and 10am on american server

why ??

because in those hours tier 8 and tier 9 tanks all get dragged into the few tier 10 battles on the server and the few tier 8 tanks you run into are horrible players in premiums that are completely clueless and incompetent

so as tier 7 heavy you pretty much have top tier for 90% of the battles in that time frame

been playing over 6 years and tier 7 grinds is best played in that time frame
