Hi all,

does anyone have any tips on how to play the Type 61? The only situation I seem to be able to make it work is on a ridgeline when the enemy let's me fight medium to long distances. As soon as I get pressed by other mediums or lights I get crushed due to the armor and low rate of fire. When moving into positions/from position to position I often get spotted due to low cameo and being relatively slow. And don't even get me started with city maps, basically no chance to have any meaningful impact.
In general I now play the tank very cautiously, but this way I have no chance of having any meaningful impact early on.

And yeah, I'm generally only around 50% winrate, so maybe it's just me being a [edited]ter, but with the Type 61 I'm at about 44% with around 150 games, so with this one I'm especially [edited]. So I would be glad for tips you can give me.

Cheers

It's a support tank. The gun is fairly good, you just need to make sure that your allies are taking the hits. You don't necessarily wanting to be sniping; stick close to the allies taking the hits, and put shells into the enemy whenever you can.

One thing to consider would be the 90mm gun, if you have the upgraded turret. It has the best DPM (Tied with the E-50's 88 L/100 gun) and the best aim time of any of the Tier 9 mediums.

Thanks for the answer. So should I go along with the other mediums and the lights or rather support the heavies (as a general rule, I know it can vary on the situation)?

I thought of going back to the 90 mm because of the dpm, but haven't done so far cause of the lower pen, and because I will have to expose myself more often. But I will give it a try. Unlocked a lot of stuff for that tank with free xp, so I haven't played it much with the 90 mm.

Cheers and thanks again.

That is basically how I very consciously started playing it due to Scorpianys suggestions, and now the tank works for me. I was sure I would sell it as soon as I got the STB-1, but I even started to like it to the point where I kept it for now, even though I'm done with the grind. I think playing the tank really helped me to improve on thinking ahead during the loading phase, as it seems to be very important with it to know where you go on the current map depending on the team compositions. Thanks for the feedback to all.
