AMX 30 B 140 armour. T28 Proto  120mm 248 pen. Not one, not 2, but 3 bounces off the Amx with no damage. No problem here move along.

It is called Russian Number Generator where you can roll -25% while the other tank can be +25% making for a 50% difference in the armor and the penetration values, the only thing that will trump this is the angle of the armor you are firing at then the overmatch mechanics take over so if the angle is too steep vs the shell size it will bounce no matter what unless it is a very big shell.

It takes true skills to hit a paper thin tank 3 times in the one place that can make a 248mm pen gun bounce. Kudos to you OP.

Problem is AMX was right in front of me about 100m facing right at me.

Learn to aim and don't shoot the mantlet of the enemy tanks.

Battlehits mod.  After the battle, you can look and see where you ACTUALLY hit the enemy tank.  (And where they hit you).  It calms my rage every time when I look at it to see how that unmissable shot missed and all that comes from me is a sheepish "oh...."

Armour doesn't "roll" the dice. Its a constant... What does change is the angling of the tank can make said armour a lot more, it also could be spaced armour which makes the armour feel thicker then normal.

The pen of the round fired does, however...

Distance does not mean anything. You could still hit at an angle that would cause a bounce.

Knowing the mechanics helps.

You provided me with a riddle, I provided an answer and now you attempt to change the parameters of the riddle?  Shenanigans!

If you'd like to provide a replay to support your position I'm sure there are several who would be happy to review it.

As others have indicated, relative positioning is important as is RNG (shot dispersion and +/-25% pen values), armor type being fired at and ammunition type.

Open this armor model and scan it with your eyeballs. Watch your own replay if you have it and figure out where your shell connected.

Would be more annoying if all 3 shots completely missed.  RNJesus loves me!

The armor doesn't get a RNG roll, just the shell.

Distance does mean something, pen falls over distance.

Stop using auto aim on tanks that are 100m away and you'll stop hitting the most angled part of the armor...
