Looking through mods I came across this Fury replacer, a model of Oddball's Sherman from Kelly's Heroes.

Giving me a chance to drive the all american classic from the 1970 war / heist comedy Kelly's Heroes, Oddball's M4A3E4 76 w, as commanded by Donald Sutherland in the movie:

Why hasn't WG made this a premium tank yet?

- It's a Sherman, those always sell well

- A Sherman at tier 6, which is a price point / tier that sells well

- It's a Sherman of a type that's not represented in the game yet with this running gear, hull and turret combination

- It should be very easy to model, the running gear, hull and turret already exist on other in-game Shermans, leaves only the gun barrel and stowage to model

- It's sure to appeal to the older demographic, the ones who like classic movies

"But it wouldn't offer anything new, it's just a Sherman with a 76, we already have too many of those, it'd just be a cash grab, I don't like fun things"

Don't hit me with them negative waves so early in the morning. It's a mother-beautiful tank, it'll sell.

Granted, part of Fury's appeal was in the relevance of a Hollywood movie being released at the same time and Kelly's Heroes was released almost 50 years back and I'm not sure how the licensing would work on something like this but, come on ...

A Sherman can give you a very nice ... edge.

A year or two ago, the Chieftain said that this was the problem with making the Oddball. They asked around a bit, but nobody really knows who owns the licensing rights to the tank.

Lert, good to see you man, been a while.  However, if you can help arrange for this vehicle to be sold, I am positive that it will be a good seller.  You have far more fans of this show and tank than War Gaming has ever realized, even if it's like the humpteenth Sherman in the game, it will sell.

I'm guessing that they probably haven't thought of it (Remember, Kelly's Heroes was created while the Cold War was still going on, so it probably is not that well-known of a movie in Russia).

They also would have to get the license rights to the movie, so there's that...

I just want to point out that I started writing my first reply to this topic before your reply popped up... :P

Maybe they can't find the right size pipe to put over the barrel to make it look like a 90mm?  And why not put it at Tier 5?

It could fit at tier 5 I suppose, but I think tier 6 sells better and is more lucrative for WG; higher sales price for the same amount of effort.

I saw that post too.  I wonder if they can give us an update.

Also I'd like to have the Goldeneye T55 tank, a t55 modified with Chieftan tracks.  We know

who owns the rights to that.

Both the tank and the map of Clermont.

I own "Burning Bridges" on the original 1970 45-rpm vinyl - the flip side is "We'll Sing in the Sunshine" (Mike Curb Congregation).

Block Quote

In the 2012 anime series Girls und Panzer, the film is referenced several times, including by supporting character Yukari Akiyama once calling herself "Sergeant Oddball" and as reference material for urban tank-to-tank combat by the protagonist Rabbit Team. The latter reference is made during a slumber party when the girls are watching Kelly's Heroes on DVD, depicted by an animated version of the sequence in which Kelly and Oddball take out the second Tiger tank in the streets of Clermont.

Interesting Link

Great CGI work, Lert

They know, they just can't afford it. It's this little company called MGM Studios.

Voted yes to Kelly's Hero's and want the tank.

Could you add an additional poll.

"Would you like to see more forum posts from Lert?"

You would only need to have the "yes" button or maybe a yes and an absolutely yes button.

Been too long since you were a regular here.

Incorrect.  The owner of the tank may own the rights to merchandising of Oddballs tank.  So

who own's Oddballs tank?  We don't know.  That's the case with Goldeneye Tank.

Oddball's tank was probably returned to the Yugoslav army and later scrapped-out when Yugoslavia modernized it's armed services.

I suspect, however, that MGM still has rights to the image.

Legend has it that one of the Tiger mock-ups went on to appear in at least one other Hollywood movie a few years later.

At the time, those mock-ups were the only running "Tiger" tanks in the world, so they generated greater fame than Oddball's lowly Sherman.

It doesn't matter who owns the tank. The tank name and it's likeness are owned by MGM. Nobody can use it without the express written consent of MGM as they own the rights to it.

It's no different than the Bat Mobile. Anybody can buy one that was used in a movie or the TV show, but that doesn't give anybody the right to make a movie and sell tickets to it while using the Bat Mobile in it.

Maybe because there are 843 Sherman versions in the game already ??

Never seen the movie but I want the tank anyway because there can't be enough Sherman variations.  If there were actually 843 versions, I want my 844th, darn it!

See the movie. Then you'll really, REALLY want the tank.

Rather have an 844th Sherman than a 1657th paper fantasy tank that never served, never existed in steel.
