I think several idiots missed the sarcasm of the OP...
if the OP wasn't being sarcastic...god help us all
If he was being sarcastic, he's terrible at it. And regardless, it really is a good to sell premium versions of tech tree tanks.
As I work up a tech tree, I promote my crews to the next tank I research. That way I have a multi-skill crew for the high level grinds and a very good crew by Tier 10. Along the way I often find a tank I enjoy, or that's historically significant and (to me) collectible. I can keep the tank, but developing a new crew is a pain, especially for a tank I don't run that often. But if I can buy a premium version of that tank, I can stick my experienced crews in it and it's immediately 10% more fun to play, plus the experience gets added to my top crews, whom I use in several different tanks. It basically makes my crews much more efficient.
On top of that is the credit and XP bonus you get for a premium tank.
I loved my M4A3E8 and kept a good crew in it. When the Fury came out I bought it, and re-used that crew for the new Light Tank line, so I didn't have to start a light tank without Sixth Sense. Good deal all around, and I still get to drive an E8 Sherman (but it makes more money). Ditto with the Bromwell.
Tiger 131 was a real home run for me; not only is it a premium, it's a historically accurate Tiger with the normal 88mm, and it's only Tier 6. Win-win-win-win-win-win-win.
So yeah, bring on more historical premiums, so I can enjoy driving actual historical vehicles without being penalized in the crew department.

It comes from Warhammer 40,000. Their tanks are apparently based on the premise that tank design reached its epitome around 1930, and everything after that was an evolutionary dead end. All the tanks (and other miniatures, for that matter) are in a cartoonish style, bristling with oversized guns and with a retro Steampunk-ish appearance. The Ragnarok KV-2 is actually quite mild compared to their other stuff:

What would be nice (and probably generate more $$$$ For WG) is if we could flag an elite tank as a premium for a fee. There would be less time and money having to spend modeling tanks. Say you really like the Chaffee and you have it elited, pay WG a fee (based on tier level) and BAM, the tank is now premium.

I was not being sarcastic. This guy gets it ^^. It's a way for WG to make money without having to sell powercreep and it's a way for me to play some of my favorite tanks again without having to start a new crew. I don't care if they have skins or not, I would buy either way

There are probably many other tech tree tanks people would buy if sold as a premium. If you sold the hellcat as a premium I would buy it immediately.
What other tier 5-8 tech tree tanks would people buy if an exact copy was sold as a premium?
Thing is ... barring the expense of course, who wouldn't want a premium tech tree tank? Even if the stats were exactly the same ... the premium benefits would make it a superior choice if considering a 'keeper' Imagine the exp and credit compounding by using the same crew for a range of tanks ... for those 2x/3x/5x times?

and that makes it a terrific way for WG to make money without unbalancing the game any further
