I would argue that being blind fired sucks more than being spotted and toasted.  Blind fired raises the hue and cry of hax and cheats, because folks have a hard time dealing with the idea that someone either:

 

Got Lucky and hit them with a totally randomly fired shot in that area; or

 

Were in a spot that a good player suspected would hide just such a player as that there and wham!

 

 

Ultimately, as long as they rage, the unsuspecting victim of SPG fire is always going to be a bit aggravated, I feel certain.  Being blind fired as a matter of course would only make that hatred worse, I feel.  The current system is probably about the best you can expect.  All units are getting meta-game information that goes way beyond what a tanker would have in the tank that to argue anything about reality, fairness or rules of physics differences is really just ridiculous in the extreme.

 

And you have to have most of that meta-game information to play, because you aren't 2-7 people sitting in a hot, noisy box with a cannon stuck in it, running around on broken terrain, being shot at, wondering who's doing it and trying to aim at crap you can't even see most times.  If this were a sim instead of an arcade game, the halls would already be dust covered and locked.  Without the meta-game information of the mini-map, highlighted colored outlines to give you targets with instant IFF (Identification, Friend or Foe), repair kits, med kits and all that other stuff, you really wouldn't be having much fun.

 

Most things that are out of our control make us come up with all sorts of 'answers' to that which vexes us.  In truth, the best method to deal with these things is to accept that they are there and they don't hate you or even know you personally, so it's NOT ABOUT YOU, although knowing this should allow YOU TO DEAL WITH IT more effectively than getting upset or thinking on how unfair, Thing X or Mechanic Y is and you'll be a happier, more productive gamer.
