Hey all. I've done a lot of Googling and reading but most of the threads I've read are from mid-2017, and I wanted to get some current opinions.

I'm grinding my way through the American medium line, with the intention of having an M48 Patton. I'd like to have a medium tank that can be a decent credit earner/crew trainer for me, that can swap my American crew between my future tier 10 and the premium. I've read that tier 8 premiums are the best choice for credit earning, so I was looking at the M46 Patton KR. I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on it. I'm currently about to have the Pershing, and I hear it's pretty trash in all those tier X games, but how is the M46 Patton KR? Is it at least decent? I don't need something incredible or OP...just something that's workable.

Also, can that paint job on the Patton KR be changed to anything else? If not, does it at least offer the same camo value of other camo paint jobs?

Thanks all!

Patton KR is a solid premium that basically plays like a Pershing.  Compared to the tech tree tank, it gains gun handling but loses acceleration.  It's competitive in tier 10, so in my opinion the only reason not to buy it is that it looks like [edited]with that terrible "Tiger" skin it has/

OP it's a good tank.  I've played 318 games in mine and still play it frequently.  It's a good crew trainer and an excellent credit printer.

too squishy for me, turret doesn't work when you need it to

I sold mine. It has been somewhat the victim of power creep.

I'd get it, HarlandWhite.  I have the M48 Patton and I use the M46 KR to train it's crew.  Of the 3 US Premium Tier VIII Mediums (I have all 3), I far prefer it to either the T26E4 (So slow it plays like a Heavy not a Medium) and T25 Pilot (a bit to thin on the armor for me).  The M46 KR is kind of the cross between those two and plays most like the medium style I like to play - the "armored medium" T-62 (have it) style vs the "fast lightly armored medium"  AMX 30B (have it) style... But of course, that's just my personal preference...

I recently purchased it and I love it! It plays much like the Pershing in my experience. Thanks to Frontline it's been a great addition to my garage. I am also grinding to the M 48 Patton and this has been a fun crew trainer thus far.

Note: the main reason I purchased this tank was for the historical role they played in Korea.

It is currently a POS, and I would not advise you to buy it.

To me the Patton KR is 95/90% of what a fully outfitted M26 has going for it. i don't find it bad to play though, just a bit weaker(very little bit) at everything than the M26. The gun has greats stats , but get a weaker premium round(243 pen vs m26 268 pen).

Overall it has about the same game play as the M26 , so if you enjoyed that tank, most likely you might enjoy the KR. Power creep has weakened this tank vs what it will face and of course the 3/5/7 mm can be tough. Has worked okay in Frontline mode for me.

The paint job is at least a historical paint job put on by the tankers and crews that used it in the Korean war. This is one reason i picked it up, my dad saw service with the Marines in Korea and has a photo of one of these tanks on the side of the road.

No, you cannot change the paint job.  The EXTERIOR bar is greyed out and non-function-able.

I purchased this tank shortly after it became available in the Premium Shop, mainly for sentimental reasons.  My uncle drove one of these tanks during the Korean Conflict (1950-1953).  More on his story below.

For me it's been a decent credit earner.  I'm an average player at best, yet it has always yielded credits for me win, lose or draw.  It's one of my "go to" tanks for grinding credits.  I have not been dissapointed with its mobility or gun-handling, either.

Recently, it's been very useful in Frontline battles.  I use it along with the T-44 FL.

As far as the effectiveness of its historical camouflage or changing it to standard camo, I cannot comment.  I have no intentions towards changing it.  It is part of the history of this tank.  Here's a link to a picture of my uncle's tank when it was recovered a few days after it had been knocked out the night of April 25th, 1951:

Note the "Tiger" paint job.  Years ago my uncle had related to me that the paint was used to frighten and play off of the superstitions of the North Korean and Chinese enemy soldiers.

If you've read this far here is a link to my uncle's reflections on some of his experiences from this time:

I use both the M46 Patton KR and the T25E4 Super Pershing for crew training. Hull down, they can hold their own against all but tier 9 and 10 super heavies.

Well that pretty much seals my decision. Thanks. I'll get the KR.

Have SuperP, KR, and Pilot, played in that order.  I still enjoy the Super Pershing, and the KR is fun, faster, and has a sweet gun (Compared to the SuperP).  None of these tanks are bad imo.  Dont play the pilot much, because meh.

i just picked it up Thanksgiving, and after about 60 days i love the tank. Quick gun, good accuracy. Armor isnt too bad, but its an American medium so thats expected. I am printing credits each game, at least 50,000 silver. 157% silver rate earner, 115% XP earner. Plays up to T 10.

Hey, Boghie, aren't you supposed to make some changes to that Maple Leaf since the legalization thingy?  Just asking 'cause, you know it sort of looks like it with the lobes being too thick these days.
