its not 3/5/7, it's the economy.  It seams the more spectacular your win (high kill count, high damage, etc) the deeper the credit hole you dig.  Almost no one can turn a consistent profit at tier 10.  Heck, I have a 60% win rate in my tier 9 Obj.430 and I can't break even with it....

AKA, Gold spamming hurts the credit account.

While I was just teasing SoTrue there in another thread, it does seem like players are failing to understand the subtleties of the 3/5/7 Match Maker. His comment is absolutely true about higher tier tanks not making as much profit for the average player as does playing in the middle tiers. This has always been the economic reality of WoT, even before the 9.18 Update. The difference now is that the 3/5/7 strict MM system is herding more and more people into matches that tend to favor the "house" instead of the player (WG being the "house" in this case) with the greater amount of bottom tier matches players experience. While in the casino world that is the norm, in the video game world it generally isn't, until now (in WoT).

The 3/5/7 system subtly incentivizes us to play more tier 9 and 10 matches so we are not stuck at the bottom of a team much of the time like in tiers 4 to 8. Tier 9 has pretty much become one of the better tiers to play in since you see no more than 5 tier 10s and usually it is just 3. With the advent of same tier matches, tier 10 is actually more difficult than it used to be. And outside of tier 10 (the maximum tier attainable), tier 9 is presently the closest thing to a seemingly more fair system that players can get into. IT IS ALSO the closest you can get to the fairness of the old MM system's roughly even spread of top, middle, and bottom tier battles that we previously enjoyed.

The economic issue, as SoTrue pointed out, is that while the MM promotes higher tier play, the economy for tiers 9 and 10 doesn't generally allow the average player to make decent profits and many players even experience credit losses at these tiers, especially if they are not running a premium account. Under the previous version of the MM, players could easily make credits playing in the middle tiers (4-8), similar to today. But, not only was earning credits at those tiers in the old system financially rewarding, it was also a fun time as you saw top, middle, and bottom tier matches evenly. Last year that situation changed. Since the introduction of the strict template match maker, 3/5/7 has been forcing us to be bottom tier much more often and players are experiencing a REAL grind as they try to replenish their credits. Playing in the middle tiers was previously a great deal of fun under the old MM system. Now, the best description I have heard of the present MM's experience is that it is "satisfying." There is a big difference between having fun and being satisfied. And again, "satisfied" was the BEST description. Usually I hear (or read) much worse about the current experience we have under this 3/5/7 MM.

How pathetic have we become that we accept, at best, "satisfied" as a gaming experience? :sceptic:

Now don't get me wrong. I understand that the old MM had its faults and I'm not advocating for it as it was (although, even with its faults, it was better than the current system overall).

What I am advocating for is a system similar to the old MM in the creation of matches, but with the current team balancing system included in it. We would get a much better match creation engine combined with the most realistically fair team balancing mechanism that we can probably have in this game. Good match creation and decently fair teams. The code for both is already written and developers have experience with both aspects. This is a good MM system to support as it has a realistic prospect to actually be created.

Tiers 1-3 are not bad now.  That is attested to by the high number of lemons and limes joining the oranges and tomatoes.
