Howdy Tankers,

I hope all is well in your tanking world.  This week I've been doing the "extra" grind in my IS-3 in order to unlock the T-10.  My original plan has been to SELL the IS-3 once it's been Elited because I already have the Defender and an IS-6.  However, I do really well in the IS-3 [I got 2nd mark last night at the 1:06:00 point in my stream - https://youtu.be/aW5tKT1MmbA ].  I don't play for MOE's or stats, so they just appear on their own.  As it stands statistically, I am at the 88% point right now (not going for 3 marks - just fyi).  I just haven't played the Defender very much (26 games) in order to be able to compare the tanks properly.

My normal practice is to grind to Tier X and then use the same crew in a Tier 8 Premium Tank for credits & XP grinding & strongholds.  In fact, this IS-3 is my only Tier 8 non-premium tank.  The IS-7 was my final grind of 2018, but I wanted to see how far I could get with the crew I have in the IS-3 while the On-Track was going.  Once I get the T-10 unlocked though:

1) Is the IS-3 worth keeping?

2) What makes it better/worse than the Defender?

3) Do you think they'll add any other lines off the IS-3?

4) Any other thoughts you may have?

Thank you for your time and attention.  I look forward to your responses.

Happy Tanking!

Last night's fairly boring stream if you're interested:

Keeper.   Better gun and mobility than the Defender.  When you get the IS7 move the good crew up and grind a new crew for the IS3 with the defender.

IS-3 and the Defender are both CW tanks. Also, when they fix the T8 MM, it will be a good tank to play again. Ive three marked mine...

Thanks.  I got the IS-7 earlier and put a fairly new but improving BIA crew in it.  The crew in IS-3 is working on its 5th skill and will be ready for future development once the T-10 line irons out.

I sold mine when I moved Up the Line to the T-10....    Mostly because I needed the Garage Space, but the Tank and I were not on Agreeable Terms either....

Besides, I don't REALLY need another Russian Tier 8 Heavy, I have a 252U to fill the Gap despite the Garbage Gun....       Not that the IS3 is a Bad Tank, I just didn't need it anymore....

I do however want the 705's and the Obj 277....

IS-3 is most assuredly a keeper, it's forgiving, punchy, and has lol-why-did-that-bounce-he-had-me-dead-to-rights armor.

I'm going to go back to mine once I'm finished with the Object 277 grind, as I'm short Soviet heavy crews with usable skills

I prefer my IS-3 over my Defender because the gun can actually hit things. Also the DPM is better than the Defender and the mobility is much better, while still retaining armor that can troll people. Defender is more idiot-proof, but also harder to do well in because of the derpy gun. I kept the IS-3.

I 3 marked my is3 in 95 games so you tell me. At the time I was a light blue now I'm purple but the point is it's my favorite tier 8 and as Tsavo said it's very forgiving. If you're going to only keep one tier 8 that's not a premium I'd keep the is3 no doubt

Keeper ?  Yes !!!

What makes it better to the Defender (and others).   Its costs exactly zero gold to acquire.  Playwise, it has some advantages as well.  As stated above, gun and mobility.  It was a clanwars regular back when CW was also avail at Tier VIII.  It may be said that its among the top heavies for that tier (that are purchasable by credits) .

I kept mine and actually got rid of the Defender -- the gun mostly, but also won the IS6b for crew training ---

FYI - I've decided to keep mine until I see what the T-10 line tank(s) are going to look like.  The crew in the IS-3 is my oldest in the RU line and is working on its 5th skill.  My IS-7 crew is my newest, but it's all BIA 0-Skill so it'll eventually be the top dog.  These 2 crews are the only RU heavy crews I will ever have. I will put them in whatever the most meta tanks are in the RU line.

THANK YOU ALL for your input here.

:honoring:

It's worth noting that the ST-1 is a joy to play as well. Suffer through the mediocrity that is the KV-4, fully upgrade the ST-1 and start enjoying yourself.

I enjoy the IS-3, and I own the IS-6 and 252u. Unlike most people, I also enjoy the KV-4, played it more than the IS-3, lol.

The IS-3 is a great tank, I would keep it.

I get called a stat padder all the time because the IS-3 is my most played tank, so yes its a good tank even if tier 8 atm has its own issues that need to be resolved.

Thanks.  But I don't have a need for a Tier IX tank.  If I did, I'd repurchase the T30 again since that is one of my favorite tanks. I really just want Tier X's and then Tier VIII's (mostly Premiums to use my Tier X crews).

Tiger 2? No.  Sorely needs a buff. Only get it if you want the E75.

Caern?  Sure.  It's recent buff made it somewhat competitive.  Plus it leads to 2 great tanks.
