Daaang I haven't been here in a while but it's nice to see old names still. Blackhorse, my favorite tanker. Iron_Soul_Stealer, my favorite everything!

It's been so long! I probably suck really hard at this game now.

^..And again, that reminds me...

What ever happened to that Krista Hauser..?

^..I am aware of that.

However, that still doesn't answer the question, or explain the origin or purpose of these strange -hyphens-. I don't have these -hyphens-, and I wasn't "demoted" from anything. So, how do you explain that..?

*Or, are you saying that every player here in this forum with -hyphens- was once a WG staffer/Admin/Moderator, but have since been fired and/or demoted and have now signed non-disclosure agreements, and have been tagged with -hyphens- so they can be easily identified by Wargamings' legal team...? Just a theory, I'm not married to it.

Skill in this game is interpreted ex post facto via stats and reputation.

Period.

Skill: your capacity to buy premium tanks, premium consumables, premium equipment and premium shells.

Nt: skill is useless in tier 8 tech tree tanks

I'm so conflicted:

According to many, dare I say many, of these posts - the community is saying arty players are skilled.....

Momma?  Momma I'm coming home now, Momma......I see a light.........

Skill:  Something that doesn't exist in the game.

It's a videogame, folks.  Some players have experience over the others.   Some often mislabel experience of knowing how the game works to 'skill'.

I suppose, and I'll capitulate to the point, that Mr. Webster attributes a learned power of doing something competently, or a developed aptitude or ability is "skill" and that some folks apply it to WoT.

Some of the seal clubber arguments are precious though.  Please - keep 'em coming.   Circuitous logic is a killer sometimes.

You guys have successfully made a point I made several years ago:  an all tier-1 battle is pretty much the same as an all tier 10 battle, except there's much less sportsmanship and a boatload more crying in the latter....

Skill in this game is having the best gear and using it to abuse those who can't see you, if they could can't hit you, if they could can't pen you

Nah, it's just that the old Players group wasn't in use anymore after he was done being a Community Contributor,  so he got -Players- instead.

I think the unhyphenated version is just a holdover from the old forum software, and no one wanted to put in the work to switch everyone from before to the new group, as long as nothing was broken.

That'll only take one to their recents.  Someone with 800 recents will reroll to about 800 as an example.

I disagree.  You need to be able to recognize and react in a timely manner when things start to unfold.   Wait too long and the opportunity passes.  This happens a lot when a team gets an advantage on a flank, but due to other players' failure to move up and help immediately, they lose any advantage they may have had.  It's the difference between starting a roflstomp, or letting the game devolve into a slugfest.    Rarely do I see the "patient" player react in a timely manner.  They expect everything to come to them rather than initiate confrontation.

Again, I respectfully disagree with that explanation.

*Time, and/or the date/year the account was created doesn't seem to be a factor in whether someone has -hyphens-, or not.

Besides, and as I pointed out earlier, it's not just ex-community contributors. I've noticed these strange hyphens on other supposed "regular-Joe" players, as well...both new players AND old. They are not very common, but they are out there on a few select forum members/players. So again, this explanation of "old software version" doesn't hold any water. Do you have any other explanations..?

Spoiler

In this game skill is defined by the amount of money in your wallet.

If you mean having a proper gaming rig...yeah, that's a point. If you mean being able to afford premium tanks and premium ammo not so much, bad players still don't know how to use those tools to best advantage.

I also suspect that a lot of what "skill" boils down to is good reflexes and the ability to process information on the fly...while it's a sliding scale there is no arguing that there are players who have a lot more of it than others.

Skill in any game is simply making good decisions and knowing the mechanics of the game. Even in games that truly are 'pay to win' or where what gear you have gives you a big advantage(neither of which really apply to WoT) a bad player will not do better than a good one.
