Hello! I am a retired-ish WoT player that only plays 20-30 matches a week with IRL friends nowadays. I was thinking of making a clan using my endless stash of leftover gold from the good old times, but was wondering if it is worth it?

World of Tanks has changed a lot since, and all those features such as strongholds are new to me. Are they worth it for a clan with ~3 players or should I simply pass?

Thanks in advance.

If you just want to run around with a clan tag and fancy clan logo, sure, it can be worth it.

But if you want to be an active clan that participated in things like strongholds and benefit from the perks of being in an active clan, most likely not.

Trying to build a clan from scratch nowadays just doesn't happen, not without having some sort of starting foundation and reputation to build one.

How many players are needed to be able to benefit from the perks?

Let's say we recruit average players, at least 1800 recent WN8

Think about why you would create the Clan and what you could gain from being in it with only a few players. The only real benefits I can see is that they will be easier to platoon with (show up in the Clan roster when they're online), and you won't get harassed about joining other clans. It's sort of why I have stayed with my Clan, as we haven't done anything competitive in over a year, but the friends that have stuck around are worth it.

As for the "perks" of being in a Clan, there really aren't any if you're not running clan activities, which is near impossible without a few members willing to run Strongholds. There isn't much in the way of costs, aside from the initial set-up fee (2,500 Gold), but you might also want your own TS/Discord server, and more facilities down the line if you recruit more players.

Alternatively, if you're just looking for a place to hold up, with no expectations but all the infrastructure, there are many clans out there for good players - like mine.

x.

No. Just find a place that welcomes casual play.
You might even make some more friends in the process.

1800 recent is just Average>? hahahahah you are lucky to find people with 1500 recents that aren't already in a clan, then out of lets say the 1700-2k rating those dudes think they are getting into Mahou because they are so leet, good luck with recruiting. I know of a clan inside my community who has been trying to rebuild with only taking in the 1700 ish players and well let's just say they got plenty of room left

Gotta need to clan merge then.

We did and it was great. We met while a member of another clan, so we formed our own clan with us core members, and others have joined since. We are a casual clan, not competitive or anything, and think it would be cool if a member got so good, did go off and join a competitive clan.

The only benefit is that the clan chat is great, we did run strongholds, and no one bothered about joining another clan. Trivial things, but it was nice to have a "club" for just players that know each other in some manner.

It is free to try, so just try it out and see how you all like it.
