The so-called “cardboard” AMX-50 68t tank is described in the new article by GoHaRu.com(09 September 2011).

The new article published by GoHaRu.com depicts another vehicle, due to appear on World of Tanks battlefields. The so-called French “cardboard” AMX-50 68t tank is described vividly in the story, which tells about the tank's background history.

"Right after the liberation in 1944, the French governors decided to demonstrate their involvement in the anti-Hitler coalition. As the equivalents of Pz.VI Ausf.B Tiger-II were not present in the ranks of the allies (western allies, as it should be mentioned), a machine like that was decided to be engineered. Development of new tanks was being continued even in occupied France and continued with renewed force after the liberation."

Besides that, GoHaRu.com gives the opinions of experienced WoT players and the game developers to highlight main peculiarities of the designed in-game vehicle.

In a new periodic column, The_Chieftain, real-world tanker and World of Tanks player, will be covering anything which comes to mind with regards to real tanks, military history, or pretty much anything else which may be of interest to people who have hydraulic fluid running in their veins.(08 September 2011).

Hello everyone.

My name is Nicholas (But you can call me "The_Chieftain"), and I’m a tankaholic. This has affected my life. I have been caught looking at what has been termed "tank porn" on the Internet. A co-worker of mine claims that I am willing to “tank dork” on anyone who will listen, and any number of people who will not. Fortunately, Wargaming has provided a more socially acceptable outlet for this affliction.

So who am I, and why am I here? Well, it was decided that it would be suitable for Wargaming to facilitate someone who ‘has the T-shirt’, as it were, and to review the World of Real Tanks. After all, with “World of Tanks” as the flagship product, having a tanker on hand can’t be a bad thing. Working on year fifteen with Army Green in the wardrobe, all of it in cavalry and armor (I currently have the honour of being a Troop Commander), plus spending what little free time I have volunteering at the local tank museum, gave me a good leg up on that score.

More importantly, though, why would you even read my musings? After all, I am not a developer. If you want to know what’s coming down the pipeline for the game, Overlord’s blog is the place to look. Consider this column to be more a way of facilitating discussion and thought, and a way to evangelicise the Religion of the Tank. Over the coming while, I may opine, review history, examine tanks, interview notable tank-related people, or provide an outlet for ‘guest authors’ amongst other things. You will also occasionally find me on the forum, answering what questions I can, and directing to/finding out some I can’t.

Though in time the discussion will eventually reflect World of Warplanes and World of Battleships (both of which I am well qualified to pontificate upon: I’ve been known to make machine-gun noises whilst flying a Cessna, and I can swim float stop myself from sinking too quickly), for now it’s all armor.

So here’s the first thought to ponder:

In a recent conversation when discussing this column, a marketing manager asked me a question which had me utterly stumped. The question was simple: “So why tanks?”

How does one answer that? Is it not completely obvious? How can anyone not like tanks? Those seemingly unstoppable expressions of power, the levels of mechanical skill used to put them together. How can one not watch in fascination the suspension system of a tank as it rolls over rough ground? It’s like watching the rods and drivewheels of a steam locomotive in motion, a beauty born of function. Who doesn’t dream of running over a car in a tank? (I’ve done it, it’s as fun as you think it is). Of course, in the back of your mind, you are always conscious of a tank’s true purpose, but let’s ignore the death and destruction. It’s like watching fighters at an airshow. You’re just in awe at the sheer cool factor and forget everything else. In Iraq, other soldiers would stop what they were doing when we rolled by and pulled out their cameras. We’d get chased to the motor pool to have people pose for photos on them.

As for crewing them, it’s the civilized ground-pounder’s method of going to war. Why carry a weapon when your weapon will carry you? Turn on the heater if it’s cold (if it works). The tank is much less muddy to sleep on than the ground. 30km road marches completed in under an hour. And there’s something comforting about having lots of metal between you and people who don’t like you. Oh yeah. And the Big Gun ™

Maybe ‘like’ is the wrong word. The amount of tank shows on the TV, the amount of people who make models of tanks, the amount of people who go straight to the tanks at an exposition, and the appeal of "World of Tanks". Face it. We don’t just ‘like’ tanks, we love them.

Unfortunately, my response to the question did not adequately convey this concept. It was more a case of my looking blankly for a few seconds in response to the oddity that the question even needed to be asked in the first place.

I guess some people just don’t understand.

"The point to all this madness is to either kill every enemy vehicle on the field or capture their base by staying next to it for a certain amount of time. In fact, you don’t really have to kill anyone on the map in certain situations. For instance, there was one battle I took part in where everyone on the team went one direction and, unbeknownst to us, the other team went a completely different direction. We ended up at their base first to find no resistance and got their base captured to 50% before the other team arrived at our base and began doing the same. Not one kill was made, but we still won!"

Wargaming.net's Military Advisor -- Chris Keeling -- shares the story of the surrender of Japan, signaling an end to the Pacific War conflict of World War II (1st September, 2011).

66 years ago on September 2, 1945, Japan formally surrendered aboard the battleshipUSS Missouri (BB-63), signaling an end to the Pacific War of World War II. Chris Keeling -- Wargaming.net's resident Military Advisor -- has put together a fantastic story that recounts the history of events leading up to Japan's surrender, as well as what transpired after.

On August 6, 1945, an American B-29 Superfortress dropped the first Atomic Bomb to be used in combat on Hiroshima, Japan, a key port housing several military headquarters, signaling the end of the modern Japanese Empire. Three days later, on August 9, a second bomb was used to destroy Nagasaki, also a port and a center for shipbuilding and other heavy industry. This act, along with the Soviet opening of hostilities against Japan on August 8 (in direct contravention of the Soviet-Japanese Neutrality Pact), as promised to the Western Allies, crushed the last hope of resistance among the Japanese leaders.

World of Tanks announces winners of Hymn contest (6th September, 2011).

The outrageous tankers were recently offered to come up with a glorious piece of poetry dedicated to World of Tanks, the fierce fights that take place on WoT battlefields, the steel beasts that wage the wars and anything related to the game.

The hymn to World of Tanks was not exceed the limit of 40 lines. At the same time the minimum size was 8 lines. And now we are glad to tell you who created best hymns!

First place goes to Wacht and his Tanks, which bring him 6,000 Gold. The second place and 4,000 Gold go to Oklahoma with his hymn.  Third place holder is pb5525, who gets 2,000 Gold for the hymn.

-We are also working on the necessary mechanics for French tanks: automated loading, oscillating turrets, multi-turret support. Then come British and Japanese vehicles.

Details on Historical battles.
-Setup works like company battles.
-The commander of this "company" chooses what historical battle to join. Accordingly there can be various restrictions on tanks:
- Only certain vehicles are allowed in a particular battle.
- Only certain module setup is allowed.
-Each vehicle in each historical battle "costs" certain amount of points.
-Battles consists of a few rounds. E.g. best of 5. If one team wines 3 rounds in a row, the rewards are doubled, enemy rewards are halved (under consideration).
-The maps should be appropriate for the historical battle selected. At first stage there will be no specially created maps, however they might be added later, if this mode proves its popularity.
-Rewards: experience, credits, achievements for winning historical battle.
-There will be win/loss counter for each type of historical battle (will take into account battles for a certain period of time).

Q: Will you guys allow a few days for name changes (like a temporary "event"-like thing to change names) any time soon?
A: Nope, last time we did it our support service has been overloaded for a few weeks. Need some sort of tool for that.

Q: Why is "Wittmann's medal" now a "Boelter's medal" (on test server)? No disrespect to Johannes Bölter, but Wittmann is far more famous.
A: Our guys did find certain relation between Wittmann and Waffen SS. The decision is not final for EU/US yet.

Q: Why exactly the tank barricades were added on Komarin?
A: To make the way throught the center a bit more difficult, and the map in general - more strategic.

Q: Will there will be an option to "send gold to other player" in 7.0?
A: No.

Q: Once the new secondary skills come, will we get to respec our crews (i.e. crew secondary skills get "soft wiped") ?
A: Probably we will allow some sort of exp reset.

Q: Hello Overlord, I heard that WoWP and WoT will share gold accounts for each account, meaning if I have 200 gold on my WoT account, it will also show 200g on WoWP account, is that true? Now regarding that, is there going to be the same system for WoB?
A: The final decision on how it is going to work is not ready yet. I can confirm that there will be certain integration.

Q: Is there going to be a re-evaluation of the M10 now, since a Tier 5 light tank has a gun, speed and camouflage advantage? The M10 is all but useful in its role as the M24 can now accomplish this task better.
A: Tier 5 lights are to be tweaked, they are not finished.

Q: I think I read online you are going to offer a paid version of the game the doesn't include artillery. How much will the version cost and when do you think you will release that version of the game?
A: Really? Could you point me where exactly you read it? Cause this is bu.., this is nonsense.

Q: After the "Do you like the map Malinovka?" vote will there be a "Do you like the map Komarin?" vote? Because in my opinion that map is extremly bad and boring.
A: We already know that Malinovka and Komarin are the favourite maps on EU server anyway.

Q: Is there possibility to transfer US account to EU? My friend started to play WoT, but was not aware of the division of servers.
A: Currently it's not possible (thought, technically it is possible but it's too resource-consuming).

Hello and welcome to the M26 Pershing, the penultimate medium US tank. This tank can be considered a mini patton and all the tactics you can learn now can be used on it. An extremely flexible play style is the name of the game now.

Overview:
The M26 Pershing combines great firepower with good maneuverability and awesome flexibility. The incredible gun depression allows for a pretty much unique type of combat with a medium tank. The enemy never sees it coming. Decent frontal armor and great mantlet armor makes you feel relatively armored for a change. The upgraded gun is great and will allow you to threaten Tier 8-9 tanks. Even if you are significantly out gunned, you can use the great view range in combination with incredible radio in order to at least give your team a chance at obliterating the enemy from far away.

The frontal armor is 102mm sloped which gives the Pershing an effective armor of around 132 mm. This means that you can bounce 75L70 and 88L56 rounds very often and even D10T can bounce, provided you slope yourself. The front mounted turret and low hull silhouette allow you to achieve insane angles during peek a boo fight.

Suspension:
M26T80E1 / Max.capacity 42.31 / Turn speed 36 deg per sec.
M26T81 / Max.capacity 45.05 / Turn speed 38 deg per sec.
The best suspension seems to not only affect your turn rate, it also has better ground clearance and makes accuracy on the move a little better.

Continental AV-1790-1 / 704 horse power / 20% chance of fire
Stock engine is made of fail and makes you act like a heavy. Get the best one ASAP. Its also used on the Patton.

Best radio is EPIC. Absolutely great. The stock one, on the other hand is simply bad. Upgrade when you can, it can be used on many other US tanks.

Both turrets have very good mantlet, meaning that despite the fact that it says 114mm of armor, they bounce a respectable amount of stuff. View range is awesome and you get a RoF boost with the top turret.

Useless at this tier. Change to 90mm M3. If you dont have it... well do your best with these guns and suffer until you can get at least the M3 gun.

90mm M3
Decent stock gun. With aim, you can penetrate other tier 8 mediums and it can penetrate heavies from the back. Still, get the best gun as it makes all the difference on this tank.

The extra 20mm of penetration make all the difference when fighting IS-3s and such. Can also penetrate Tier 8-9 tanks from the back OR the weakspots (got an IS-4 from the front with this bad boy several times). Accurate, aims fast and does a decent amount of damage. What more can be said? This gun is great! Get it fast, as it will make Patton grind less annoying too. When Using APCR, it has some wicked penetration for a tier 8 gun.

The Pershing has a much better gun and much better depression. Also has better view range. Though Pershing has decent armor, T44 is a bit more bouncy. Its also even faster and more agile.

M26 has the better gun and better depression
T-44 is a bit more mobile and bounces a little more

M26 vs Panther 2
Panther 2 has better armor than the M26 and gun with lower damage, but higher penetration and accuracy. Its less agile than the Pershing and lacks the gun depression though.

Pershing is more agile and has the better gun depression

Historical M26 Pershing

The Heavy Tank M26 Pershing was an American heavy tank briefly used in World War II and in the Korean War. It was named after General John Pershing, who led the American Expeditionary Force in Europe in World War I.
Development of the M26 during World War II was prolonged by a number of factors, the most important being opposition to the tank from Army Ground Forces (AGF). As a result, only the initial 20 M26 (T26E3) tanks deployed to Europe in January 1945 saw combat in World War II. The M26 and its improved derivative, the M46 Patton, both saw more combat in Korea. The M26 was underpowered and mechanically unreliable and so was withdrawn from Korea in 1951, in favor of the M46, which had a more powerful engine. The lineage of the M26 continued with the M47 Patton, and was reflected in the new designs of the later M48 Patton and M60 Combat Tank.

This past week, I had the privilege to sit down with Voth and petreal2000 from the clan MLP, My Little Pwnies, and have a brief interview with them. In the following interview, I will bring you a little insight into what makes MLP who they are and there philosophy which is what makes them who they are.

Q: Please tell us about your Clan. What brought your group together?

A: There was a core group of us that were with another clan, and we wanted more then just the average tanking clan. We didn't want to just be the average pub style clan, but more of core group of people to get into tourney's that will train together, fight together. The other clan we were in did not have the same vision as us, so we decided to go start our own and adapt it to our playing style and and how we want to lead this. There was originally 4 of us that got together and said this is how we are going to do this and that how they got started MLP.


Q: How long have you been a formed group?

A: We have been together now since May 16th I believe, when we originally formed MLP.  But like said before, a few of us were together in the other clan for a couple of months before MLP and many of use were involved with the game from beta. So we have known each other for some time, but it was the first clan we were together, is where we really started to get together. Then we started this clan in May.


Q: Is there a particular history or story behind your Clan name?

A: When we started, we sat down and discussed what we wanted to name our selves, so we all decided to come up with some sort of list. Then we decided to bring in some of the other guys we brought over initially, which were a little bit younger to help us come up with a name. We had many names in the list that were big tough names, and then eventually someone brought up "My Little Pwnies". They ended up having a vote on it and everyone seemed to vote for My Little Pwnies, which I believe Voth was not there on the day we voted for if he was there, he defiantly would have voted "no" on My Little Pwnies. But the vote came in and "My Little Pwnies" won the vote.


Q: What insight or philosophy is the driving force behind your union? In other words, what motivates your members, what instills that esprit de’ corps so many Clans seek?

A: The motivation really comes from the initial 4 guys that came over and started MLP and show the previous clan what mistake they made by not letting us get in and form this. The more and more people we brought over and put in MLP, I think they kind of grew there philosophy around what our original philosophy was and I think people kind of attached them selves to that, and said that sounds good and lets roll with that, and get out there and dominate and be the best of the best.


Q: What leadership/management style can you share that has helped MLP stay together as a vibrant and active Clan?

A: What we have done is instead of having the common leadership style that most clans have, with one leader and then trickling down, like typical military style. We went with the original 4, and had it where everyone had a say, sort-of like King Authors round table where everyone had a say and a vote, and with the differences of the mentalities of the 4 being different, really helped keep things in focus and really helped bring the best of different ideals to the clan.


Q: What can we expect to see from MLP in the future?

A: Well, our original concept was tourney's, and after this last tourney where AOD had the top two spots and we had 3rd and 4th, we have learned allot and hope to take what we have learned and use it to try to take the top spots in the next tournaments.


Q: How has the release of Clan Warfare Beta impacted/affected your Clan?

A: Our entire clan was built around clan wars. Originally, we were thought of as a spearhead mentality, where we would spearhead behind with allies filling in, but if anything, a change was taken where we were able grow out of that essentially to now still spearhead, but also occupy land as well.


Q: What council or advice would you offer those new to WoT?

A: Well, we look at stats, and many people take that wrong. It's not just the stats that we really look at, its also how well you work with teammates. You can tell so much by stats but that's not what makes the player. So being able to work with teammates and taking criticism and not taking offense and showing the willing to learn is what we really look at and overall will make you a better player.


Q: What suggestions would you offer to other tankers and Clans in the Beta?

A: Well, Do what you say and say what you do. Don't go out and say one thing and do another. People tend to respect people for the things people do. I think we learn allot from the people we have allied from. Every clan seems to bring a piece of the puzzle, and if you can learn from that, it will make you a overall better group. That's the good thing with the leadership we have, we can take bits and pieces from everybody we associate with, and we say we really like how do this and I really like the way they do that. Many clans out there will say, "we are doing it this way, it's this way or the highway, and this is the way we are going to run it and I really don't care if anyone don't like it", and we try to accommodate our guys and try to make sure our guys are happy. I think the majority of the people are hear are truly happy to be here for they know we look at them as people, and not a tool to get what we want.


Q: Our final question: For those interested in applying to MLP, what is the steps they need to take?

A: The biggest thing is having Clan Wars ready tanks, and for us the clan wars ready tanks are Tier 10 heavies, Tier 9 Mediums, and Tier 8 Arty. The second thing is we bring them in and talk to them, see if there personality fits our personalities. We train, we have a regiment on how we play thing and they have to meet that, and if they can't meet that, then that's one of the things they have to live by. There stats, well that kind of tells allot about someone. I know allot of people say you can't tell anything about someone by there stats, but there are bits and pieces in the stats that can give you and idea on there playing style. It's not all about win and losses, a guy can loose every battle but if he does well in the match, you can tell by the stats. The best thing is take a look at the forums and hit one of our guys up. If you work well with one of our guys, then they will bring it up and then our recruitment officer will give you the run down and then they will set up a time and date, and then you will come in as a recruit for a two week evaluation where they are put in companies battles, clan battles, and practice a bit with them and from there the whole clan would look at them and see if they would fit in and from there they would evaluate to see if they will become a full member or be dismissed. We are more about quality over quantity.
