Let me start by saying i am by no means an expert on tanks, and i searched for hours trying to find an answer to this question. It first popped into my mind years ago while watching gameplay of Men of War Assault Squad 2. I however didn't look into it too much because it was the first time i had seen this. However while watching the miniseries band of brothers i saw this again... so i turned to the World of Tanks forums to see if i could finally find an answer. What the heck is on the back of these Sherman tanks and why are they there? If anybody can answer this for me i would be forever grateful!tank things-640x480.png

i thought it was for exhaust because i knew these tanks had a problem with overheating, i figured that it was like an intake to a radiator, which i thought wouldnt make much sense because these tanks didnt move very fast, unlike a car. But this makes sense! thank you folks so much!

If you want to learn more about tanks, a really nice, concise information source is the Online Tank Encyclopedia - http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com

It's really quite fun to just read through some of their articles when I'm bored.  :great:
