Can you post a screenshot of your 3 marked Matilda.  I'm sure it's a beauty :)

I have to question his claims because checking his WoT profile he doesn't even have the first mark on the Matilda and he only has 1 mark on the Matilda Black Prince.

So yeah...fun fact that your WoT profile shows the marks you have on all the tanks you've played.

I'm fairly sure he was trolling, and now I don't know if you are.  Matilda is a Tier IV, so can't get any MoE, just like the other two tanks he mentioned.

Take my word for it.  By the way, did I mention I'm a darker-than-purple-unicum-zen-master on the EU server, best ever in the Matilda.  Hell, they even added a pair of the Queen's knickers to the rearview mirror.

Tier 9 meds from what I've seen tend to be very hard because that tier is so popular these days. I can't even get an Ace in the Standard B even with a couple 7k damage games so don't even get me started on MoEs for that tank.

Just got ace with 6.3k damage. You're probably letting others spot for you.

1 MoE?  No.  I have a few and I'm a 47% WR player.  I do have a few tanks nearing the 2nd MoE, but that by no means makes me "good".

If you see someone out there with several tanks carrying 2 or 3 MoEs, then maybe you can call them "good" players.

There is really not any one single metric that can be relied upon to tell you if someone is a "very good" or better player.

One must check an amalgamation of stat metrics to get a reliable picture of a player's "goodness".

I do well in my T54 Mod1 and recently got my first mark and have a  52% WR with it, also have a mark on my T29 with a 51% WR currently sitting at 71% overall with the T29 but I see some players with marks who are worse than me.

A majority of my tanks are two and three-marked; but I hardly consider myself a “good” player. My W/R is something likely 53%. Yeah, that’s on the high side of average, but still average.

When it comes to MOE, I’ve just been lucky.

You know, I covet my 1 marks, really I do.

I still haven't Aced the T67, even though I did one mark it.  That bugs me more than you guys calling one marks 'participation' awards.  The level of effort I have to put in on getting my KEYS to work when I press them, getting (currently) 9 fps on a rural wireless internet on a 10 year old potato laptop makes getting even those 'participation' awards mighty appealing.

As I play, I just keep thinking, "Imagine what I could do on a real computer with a real connection.  Play like that right now."  It seems to be helping.  I have to admit, though, these sorts of threads are kind of depressing to me.  I have so much further to go.  :D   ;)

I think for the most part it's tank specific.

I'm 2-marked in many, no 3 marks.

all marks on a tank show is that the player has played that tank enough and has some ability to deal damage at times . Nothing more nothing less. 3 marks mean the player can deal more damage in most of there battles played in that tank. The question saying are they a good player well that depends on how there dealing that damage most just Snipe and that takes very little skill compared to the players that get the job done by being in the positions using there hp smartly and better this game was meant to be a team game . And more times then not those players use there team mates as a hp bank while there in the back dealing damage.   Winrate ,avg  xp  earned is a better   indicator of skill

As far as I'm concerned, marks are only a representation of the ability to get damage vs the rest of the player base for that specific tank.

Does it represent skill or a "good player"?

I would say it does to a certain extent.  One of the main aspects of the game is to get damage to acquire kills.  The more kills one gets, generally the more times you will win.  This excludes damage farmers that have zero desire to win; only to boost WN8.  Rare, but it does happen.

If someone has a 2 MOE in a specific tank, I can be pretty comfortable with the idea that there is a good change that player will pull decent damage for that game (of course not everyone has stellar games every time).  1 MOE, to me just means that they've played the tank a lot.  It isn't too hard to get one.

Personally, I've only acquired a 3 MOE mark in one tank.  I'm really close on a few others.

I wouldn't consider someone "skilled" overall by MOEs alone.

I would say that getting the gun mark takes some skill but maintaining the gun mark is where the skill actually lies.  If you can maintain a 2-mark or a 3-mark, you cannot deny your skill in that tank, versus the rest of the community.  After all, it is more than just damage.  It is spotting, tracking, etc.  In the end, I'd wager that it should be a combination of win rate, wn8, and MOE.  It is a sad thing that there isn't an in-game metric that quantifies all of that.  Wake up WG!!!

For the life of me, I don't know how you 3 mark artillery.  I've got 1 mark on a few but it is such BS.  I've got the entire German SPG tree unlocked and I just grit my teeth when I'm in my GW Panther because the people in tier 7 games are freaking potatoes that probably got headaches booting up their computers.  Doing tier 6 damage against tier 9 tanks is also a nightmare.  HATE the GW Panther but I'll make it up when I got back to my Hummel.  She's my baby!

After 3 marking my AMX 12T (just grinding the arty, possible wheeled light tank start point so I was building xp) I was talking to my friend who I was amazed to find out hasn't been able to two mark any and he's a fairly good player with an overall win rate of 52.5 so he doesn't let the team down. He does his HP in damage, he falls back when he should and never really does anything stupid. How accurate do all of you believe barrel marking is as a measure of skill? I've seen some very solid teammates who cant seem to achieve the sought after 2 and 3 marks yet still can carry a team to victory. It seems to me it takes a certain play style to get them and that doesn't always equate to whats best for the team. I'm also adding a poll just because I'm curious how many players are able to reach the barrel mark goals!

Often what's best for the win isn't what's best for your personal stats...

To answer OP, for me personally yea i consider ppl with 3-marked tanks especially at higher tiers to be good players.

Many times i've noticed players with over 1k battles in a specific tank, still haven't 3 marked it (except arty), and i feel surprised.

I spend most of my time grinding tanks from stock low tiers, cause i like to collect tier 10s though i rarely have more than 50 battles on most my 10s.

But grinding tanks requires playing lot of premium tanks to cover expenses, and i admit most my 3 marks are on premium tanks; just cause i play them a lot. Have some on tier 5-6 just cause i felt a regular tank was fun or a challenge, like the t37 and t21 respectively.

My all time goal has always been to unlock all tanks and then focus on 3 marking tanks; but with WG adding new lines every patch (almost) it seems like a far fetched target. Damn i talk a lot.

Point is, more barrel marks = more own damage and spotting damage = better chances for the team to win. Redline snipers aren't accounted for; cause obviously their contribution is very short termed.
